stuck on grass
jackmckay replied to jackmckay's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
It should be simple: If its rainy, make it muddy, soaky, whatever, let the wheels swim and stuck.. if its dry and clear make it harder as it should be. Taxiways on hangar exit should be wider anyway, at least as plane (Su25) wingspan, some are even made of hardened soil. Its too easy to get stuck on that narrow taxiways and its not a matter of taxing proficiency or complicated differential braking, it just ain't right. Sometimes taxing in Su27 looks like driving a cabover truck on Italian oldtown narrow roads. It shouldn't. -

Also, wheel (all wheels) needs to sink over the axle level to get completely stuck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

If ground is wet soaket that can be a problem but if its dry then its hardenough to witstand anything. It looks like in DCS its allways rainy. Also, soil hardening has invert conical shape in taxiway crossection so real place to dip into a mud is not near taxiway, allways further a bit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

MiG-15 can't taxi on the grass. There was a wreckage on taxiway so I turn to avoid it but one wheel stuck and everything goes back to the beginning. -

True, its too short for being stuck in grass box (with plenty of power available) and loosing precious hours of life for failed startups and retaxing with weird rudder reaction. So damn irritating and unrealistic especially on that updated too-narrow taxiways. Feels like driving a wide car true Brazilian favelas. I hope that that new Caucasus map will behave better but I already took too much of my time this way anyway. -

Taxiways have at least 1m of hardened soil around its edges not covered in concrete. Its usually grained rock, rolled and packed before concrete layer. Cant dip in there. -

Take Mig15 with 50% of fuel and hit the taxiway. Slip. No way that it can stuck in that soil easy. Plane has shock absorbers, wheels have inflated tires. No peak rigid pressure impulse here only very soft and gradual pressure distribution on tire face. And plane always has this inertial pulsation of some kind there. -

Soil has penetration pressure value. N/cm2.. or whatever you 'muricans use there to have reference. There is certain chart for every wheel with load on it. Soil is too soft around taxiways. No doubt. .. BMP weights more than fully loaded Mig21! -

One thing is heavy impact of fast lander on runway surface another is 5km/h taxing around airbase. Its not farmland with crops. That would I understand but this is way out of course. -

..because construction workers rolled around it with heavy rollers. http://media.wirtgen-group.com/media/04_hamm/news_and_press_releases_3/2009_plus_factor/Plus_factor_01.jpg Then why T90, Abrams, BMP, or even Humvee don't slip into living sand of taxiways? Its stupid, period. -

ground around taxiways is hardened, right? its construction standard..never soft meadow. even if it is meadow some planes still can land on it. nobody dig cliffs around taxiway man. I've lost so many hours on this "feature" that has nothing to do with RL. ... im flying mig15, mig 21 etc. but its the same with every module. and what about afterburner power? ain't that a breeze? -
..taxing on narrow taxiway, slipping out a little bit and pow.. damn plane wheel drops like in living sand.. full afterburner, tons of force generated but somehow ground stuck...? That is most damn stupid thing in DCS, agree? Some planes are intended to land on dirt, especially soviet?

* DCS: F-14 Development Update! Scan, Lock, Fire! *
jackmckay replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Nice job Heatblur! I hope that F14 will bring some new level of interaction in DCS. Dogfighting this bird will have special spice when RIO is actual player. Looking forward to that ;). Also datalink is now finally on western side so I don't see a reason why same wouldn't be unleashed on Flanker crossover datalink. Thumbs up! -
That should have been said in briefing: post-merge weapon-free and not post-merge fight - two very fundamentally different things. Air combat maneuvering as part of BFM is committed pre-merge and continued post-merge as allowed dogfight elements or just fight. This scenario needs proximity trigger of egg. 50m bubble around each player to start match in-merge when booth in proximity with message "Weapon-free!". No talk about wings level or pass me from my left or right side and then we fight. This should have been explained and stroked as fundamental rule of tournament, clear and simple. It didn't and thus gave certain players unfair advantage. Hope it will be corrected in next one.

Actually, you just refined the details of my "simple" statement that is not 100% wrong to be called "all wrong". You refined my 5% and added "baiting". All you said means that me and other "fair play idiots" were waiting to merge to make any combat maneuvers as it has been said in briefing room prior the fight. I'm glad that this discussion is here openly presented for people to know what is this all about and that it has nothing to do with "RL Top Gun" practice and that 90% of the fight lies in pre-merge positioning even if it is called post-merge fight.
-
"The subject matter is EXTREMELY complex." Forgive me to make it extremely simple: All you have to do is aim opponents tailpipe in greater angle possible while at max turn rate speed hoping that you wont crash into him. Choose flight level you like, chose position aspect you like. If that includes 90deg cross path that is fine too. What is post-merge fight then if you make all kind of maneuvers prior merge itself? PS. I also fly sims daily from Falcon 4 back in '98 (C64 I don't count) ..F4AF, IL2, LO, LOMAC, FSX, X.. etc.. Don't push that blackbelt cards please cos that won't elevate anyone's stands. Its not ethical.
-
Because it is not in the manner of "fair play" and not all players knew that that is vital to winning the match - that was also not mentioned in briefing data or training mission but announced just prior event, also in RL that is extremely dangerous and makes pilots grounded because of possible collision danger as fight deck limit violation too. Every fair game has equal starting positions, right? What about thick fog fight or pitch black scenario dogfight? Why not raising the bar even more?
-
Congrats to the Winner :smilewink: Nice job Capsu! Regarding rules: There's a problem concerning clean start position as mentioned before or fair play rules. Guys are so nerved to get better position and prior merge they do all kinds of stuff in matter of better positioning. I find it very dangerous (and not allowed in RL) because my opponent did that, first time crossing my flight path 50m in front to me almost crashing at me (what he actually did second time). I mean, I could do the same propositioning but we would actually never merge as we should, constantly aiming at his left wing while he was all over the place. If I did the same who would told us that we are merged? F5 guy? That's not right way. What should be done is next: Modify mission in that way that booth planes fly on autopilot, straight and leveled, after near miss merge (detected by movable trigger zone of 50m) booth pilots would gain control of their machines. Match start. No wizard stuff of any king or so called G-warmups or any magic propositioning. That means if you play fair you get disadvantage. No good. Also I would like to see tournament in which everybody goes against everybody (that would last longer for sure) in egg. 3 circles, reducing number of players up to final match. That tournament would mean harder earned title of Top Gun of the Year giving the winner greater credibility. I think that everybody would like to try that :smartass:
