I think that mig21 engine is under-powered in DCS. I don't sense a difference between 1st and 2nd afterburner stages, second gives 9T of thrust for few minutes but seems like not simulated in DCS jet. Small plane as mig21 should accelerate very fast under 2nd stage but it looks like F5 can catch up too easily. Coincidence or RL fact? Not talking about dogfight position awareness and tactics but pure performance of machines.

I don't like this Normandy map, sorry. I brought Nevada but played 5 times because its to boring and too monochromatic map. I like playing WW2 fighters but on IL2, BoS and other pure WW2 platforms that can host thousand of online players for less hardware demanding requests than DSC. This WW2 switching is out of my Jet Age concept that DCS has offered successfully filling that gap that has been open for a while. Closing BF could switch some players on WW2 but for me I'm on hold short for another BF round. -
Also, besides this trouble with too reflective transparent surfaces I must also note that with human binocular sight ability it is very hard to make single dirt spot blocking booth eyesight lines as is previously being done on Mig21 canopy glass that has dirt spots of which sometimes you can recognize as distant contact spot. Human eyes filter that dirt so even if canopy is little bit dirty human sight uses focal point adjustment and binocular view to clear the sight. Just try looking thru rainy glass in distance. Same effect is expected on transparent surfaces.

Could be. All we need to fully compare level flight performance is actual (clean or whatever config) drag force charts for those planes we want to compare. Anyone has one?

Su33 AL31F3 combined set has 251kN of static thrust vs 245,2 kN on AL31F integrated on Su27S. In comparison, F15C has 211,4 kN, so yes its the most powerful set of engines in DCS and I hope it will be noticeable on low level mass fraction of fuel on state of T/W ratio over 1.

This tests should be conducted just to get drag force rule for specific missile or plane. Calculations of this kind could be done in matter of less than 2 weeks in moderate(adaptive) mesh resolution. Once AoA[deg] vs Drag[F] chart is complete the rest is on coders. Noo need for realtime calculations because they all would look very similar. Missile flight envelope looks like this: drop-burn-glide-manouver-(hit or die) and physics looks like this: accelerate max speed (burn time, drag from normal pylon hinged to max free flight)-0deg AoA(standard straight drag force slowly depletes energy)-max G/AoA (drag force on maxG/AoA max energy loss) per time segment-until all maneuverable energy lost - ballistic. So in general we have initial velocity vs drag force per altitude/air density combined with drag increment by AoA in specific turn under 1G global vectored field. Its very simple but most important data can be gained by CFD or expensive wind tunnel data. Tunnel is for professionals, no need for that. Just extract drag force chart and make that work on everything that flies.

SW is a great tool, right? ;) Next you need to calculate Drag vs AoA up to 30des/s (by steps of 1 up to 5deg, over by 5deg steps eeg.) to efficiently implement energy loss due to increased AoA in tracking turns. I hope that we will see something similar conducted on other missile and plane models set on various configurations and AoA ranges. Anyway, nice work guys This gets better for now, and most important, more professional.

@tharos - radars are fckdup anyway for now but I'm very suspicious about APG-63 immunity to ground clutter under(!) tree level while locking slow speed target while two half of its rotor blades have opposing Doppler phases (AoA angled blades/sinusoidal corner speed pulses). RCS would be very confusing. High contrast terrain would make things way much easier. - that missile was traveling at normal speed up to its 50% range and then target locked 100km away just exploded, actually two targets in a row, missile was AIM7. GCI saw it and reported to gamemaster. Tacview was recorded, analysed, guy banned.. All clear as day, cheater and exploiter was in the game, destroyed 2 choppers from 150km away just in point of landing and drooping troops on FARP taken. We on TS said "WTF" for several times! Cheaters won't be stopped by being banned, that's for sure. - you say: "bypass IC and give this missile high rocket burn time/less drag, thus making the missile much faster and longer ranged". I say again: WTF? Is that even possible? - you say: "Invisibitlity bug". I say: Same as before. We also experienced similar "bug" but to me that looked like cheat too. Man can't easily know since Tacview destroys records on severe BF game crashes since 10min delay is on and my BF MP crashes a lot. Playing MP track takes a lot of time if lucky to have non corrupted file saved. - too much of stick yanking is generating lag: Not my words but from other people on TS. Didn't try. Its getting hard do stay untouched by all of this. Always in war against cheaters and they are on BF 100%, no error on this man. I wish I was wrong but there are others that saw same things - No "I see dead pople" story here. But that tells one thing: BF is matter of high importance or V-VIP server - which is nice! Cheaters go to hell! @alpen: I support "no diapers" league so less diapers and whining - higher FPS for the rest. Hind will be awesome on REDFOR. I always expected for BF to have clear cut between east-west sides units and to me that is natural way. Piss too! :D -

BF is specific since overturn of battle can be bound to loss of strategic airfield or farp. With theoretical "white plains mod" VIP choppers could be so easy to spot and destroy and thus efforts of whole team would be easily neglected and that's no fun to anyone. Other than that, there are cheaters on BF and man would surprise how hard they try to overturn the course of battles. Last year a cheater found exploit that could fire missiles from 150km, missile would teleport and hit target at that distance by traveling 25% of its kill range. Later we saw people yanking on sticks by over-cluttering input thus generating lag triggered by missile chase warning signal, other times we could see or better said not see player's plane but only missile trail like plane is invisible and not just to one player but to a whole group around. BF is very sensitive in terms of importance of single chopper flight and thus natural camouflage is the only defense against exploits of this kind. Neither side should benefit from this scenario. -

MP is on hold for now. I will over-tan . I brought Viggen out of boredom (and was at discount :smilewink:). Interesting plane:thumbup:. Swedish sounds kind of German. I also found out how to kill a Viggen by instant over G - Man, it just explodes :music_whistling: @dinomight: This is of the general course (sure there should be a tread about this) but please get into the the core of textures problem explained by this sentence: - Real problem not what you or other see but when no one else can ever see what you can see - that gives you unfair advantage. Simple as that. I really hope that you will enjoy your favorite custom textures out of BF but if some rules have to be obeyed that goes on same appearance of "DCS playground" as in RL we all look at the same textures and same world. I also have Starways but I disabled it for BF and to avoid update overwrite. :thumbup: -
Nice photos. At the moment it looked like rendering probably because of increased vibrant coloring. So then why MiG29S has R77 but Su27 doesn't in DCS and how come it took so long to transfer pylons and fire control system from Fulcrum to Flanker in RL? Was there some version of Su27S that was R77(domestic version) capable in the meantime?

I'll switch to the core by my opinion. Where is the time lock in DCS? There is timeline for missile release dates (IRL) and airframe versions (IRL). So there should be a feature in DCS that gives loadout by the year of engagement - not by the mission designer setting. That means if year lock is 1996, there is no 120C because its been released in 2003 or so. This should be mandatory in DCS - Year lock. Next to the core: Missiles in DCS are superdraggy now and feels like they're flying in honey not air. Missile logic and guidance is completely undercoded and broken. Needs fix urgent.

Mig21 inverted lock is not a trickery. Radar has vertical beam mode and is used for locking near targets by roling and locking at the same time. Also radar has ground clutering filter. Its nota an explit it is feature that some recently found usefull.

Thank you WildBillKelsoe and DarkFire. That means that Flanker with 2xR73, airspeed below lets say 500km/h, with fuel less than 50% and FCS off should accelerate in turn and even climb vertically if AoA is below lets say 25deg? Right?

Listen up. Nobody said that we all have to have same gear. That’s your construction. Because we all don’t have same gear there is a feature called graphics settings that make people have good enough FPS on different hardware to play fluidly and that was not the issue here. Read my posts again. Check this out: In every MP game I used to play there were some cheaters with mods. Then that game became so screwed that all good players abandoned the ship. So then came Integrity Check and said FO to the mods. Praise the IC. Don't like the original textures? Address that to the ED. Me superior? Doesn't have to be so but thank you for your appreciation. I'm actually an IT professional. That’s my graduate education. And I recognize traps when I see one. No smart ass for that only years of blue screen coding from time of execution command of system OSes. I don’t have time to code MP campaigns but if BF becomes cheaters corrupted and in spare time available I could serve some MP server. And that is not the point here. I appreciate Ciribob’s effort and I want to help by throwing some ideas while pointing out the cheater potential flaw. If you disagree you’re probably closer to dark side by not knowing that at all. So take a look at that A10 MFD up. No tank seen and we know that it should be there. - Don’t you think that that specific "tank" could be an airplane in some other situation? - Could be. - Clipping plane fixed by textures? - Cool. - Could clipping plane be reversed? - Hell yea. - How? - By texture mod setting file. - What would it do? - It would make close contact invisible (side effect would be beautiful patterned textures that can’t fix all texture misalignments). - Right? - Right. - Is that cheat? - Hell yea. Get it? I paid a lot for this "simulator" and I want it to be clean of BS, at least on MP. So I salute every feature that ED throws against cheaters. Anyway it’s MY opinion and I throw it here with arguments. We don't have to get along. And I really, really like guys talking in EVREYONE's name. Hey Ciri-Sherlock :) What about placing trigger zones with rule: no plane/chopper in zone all! units inside state green or off. Could be raytracing less intensive/less lag. Reduce trigger zones for EWRs too. What you think? -

Let me make a little mod. All enemy shadows are gonna be pinky. Clipping plane tweak will make me disappear from anyone 250m away. Maybe another mod for plane skin alpha on 100% so it will be invisible on some button input. etc.. BS. I say NO. Same rules for all and that means same visual experience. Only that way we all have same opportunities. Other is BS. For FPS you have graphics settings because this is not PlayStation. Wont discuss gear because that was not issue. Problems with textures should be addressed to ED. SRS is NOT a mod its a standalone software that reads radio freq settings from DCS and sends audio stream online. Tacview was also misused for unfair SA, that's why we have 10 mins delay now because some people thought that they are smarter than the rest. Prove that online without mods if you're worthy. Leave little tricks for SP. -

There are obvious reasons why. In RL we all have the very same textures and DCS is Simulator, right? Let me give an example: Every major sport event have same strict rules for all - no exceptions. Everything else is manipulation and prone to disqualification. So I say: No mods on BF! Dislike and go change the server. Simple as that - No hard feelings. -

That's why planes sometimes disappear from clean sight and you see only missile coming from nowhere, losing eye tracked target or you cant spot IR signatures on thermal vision devices. Near and far clipping also screw vision. That sucks and now we know why. Moded games shouldn't go on competitive MPs. Period. I would introduce CRC check for hard cored servers of this kind. Suddenly, everybody is worried about textures? If you don't have anything to hide play on original ones. Otherwise go for SP and push space shuttle mods as long as you like. Why would someone be special in any kind in MP? Mods, no way. Ciribob, push the limits even more on this. My support to ED about this little nasty feature.
