  1. I was a staunch three screen supporter for years...then came my DK2 and who cares about three screens! Anyhow, here's some formation practice I did with an AI F-16. I almost stuck up my hand to do a thumbup so the shadow would appear in the photo...then I remembered...not a photo...not my hand :P NB: The screenie really doesn't convey the sense of proportion and dimension at all. The plane was REALLY close! DCS 2016-05-20 14-30-30-57.bmp
  2. Here's my 48 bucks :)
  3. Keep the Oculus order. I demoed both and the Oculus is the winner in my opinion. Just the ATW is enough, but the screen clarity is better as well. Plus, you'll look good to "Mrs Shogun" as you are keeping the less expensive one...then take the additional money that would have gone to the Vive and buy her flowers or something else :D
  4. I think a number of VR users are relating their experiences directed towards the developers in the expectation that they attend to whatever discrepancies they can correct so that the VR experience in DCS is as good as it could be. I doubt folks are trying to talk others out of VR. I don't know of any VR user who is not entirely enthusiastic about it. I'm not sure if that helped or not, but I maxed it out and will see how it goes. The dips in frame rates occur when flying over urban areas. Open desert, land and water are no issue. Here are some screenies too... DCS 2016-05-20 10-52-25-19.bmp DCS 2016-05-20 10-52-57-51.bmp DCS 2016-05-20 10-55-24-82.bmp
  5. My company hosts one. The address is in my signature.
  6. Here are my graphical settings for both v2 and V1.5.
  7. I don't see anyone running 90fps (system frame rate) flying around Las Vegas. I have my settings all on low/minimum (cockpit shadows to low) and can't stay at 75fps without drops using the DK2. If you're flying over open desert or water (other map) then sure, frame rates go to the moon, but the areas with densely populated objects will bog down the frame rates.
  8. Making the rotational relationship between head and view anything other than one to one would cause discomfort and induce nausea in many users. Doing that would be absurd and negate one of the benefits of using a VR device.
  9. Yes - we still need to option to use the mouse. This cannot be understated.
  10. 24fps is nonsense. The closer your frame rates are to your VR HMD's refresh rate the better the use experience. Ideally you want it to exceed it in all instances.
  11. You turn on the built in frame counter in DCS by pressing RCTRL+PAUSE - press it a second time for a much more detailed summary of the objects being processed. ATW makes a big difference with the Oculus. My PC cannot run 90 FPS (actual) when flying over dense city areas with everything turned on low. It's not for want of hardware.
  12. I have a DK2 and demoed both the Vive and CV1 within the past two weeks (my reports on both are here in separate threads). What's in the video is as close to reality as possible without physically having the hardware in your hands. The SDE on the Vive is better than the DK2, but only marginally. The SDE on the CV1 is much better than the DK2. I have had a DK2 for 20 some months.
  13. I hope they improve the text and radio menus, too!
  14. You can reposition your eyepoint. Follow my guide here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=164892 You can save your default position.
  15.  Installed and running!
  16. Hi all, I had the opportunity to demo the Oculus Rift CV1 today at an area Best Buy. Some may have read my impressions of the Vive here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=165405 As a DK2 user for almost two years I believe I have an informed perspective on VR use in general. I can say that my feelings on the Oculus are much more enthusiastic than how I felt about the Vive. It's not my intention to make this a comparison about the two, but it's really impossible to speak of one without thinking on the other. Anyhow, here are my impressions: SDE - it's evident if you're looking, but much better than the DK2 as well as the Vive "God Rays" - I really looked for this, but saw nothing at all Comfort - It could be more comfortable, but there was a hygene face gasket which may have caused some positional imbalance on my face. It's light, stylish. The Vive is bulky and uncomfortable. I thought the strap would bother me but I didn't even notice it Tracking - perfect I wanted to see for myself if I should keep the DK2 and wait for a hypothetical CV2 or keep my order due in June. I came away enthusiastic about it, and while there are some limitations with the SDE (I am a SDE Snob), the CV1 is marked advancement over the DK2. The Vive on the other hand seems more of a slightly improved lateral move to me. Surely each man should get what he feels is best! The Oculus offers the balance for me, and be assured that if you're getting either, you will enjoy it. You will see a good improvement, especially if you're going from a DK2 to the CV1. VR is here and we're fortunate to have it! Happy flying! Boxx :pilotfly:
  17. How do you fly the F/A-18 in DCS?
  18. I have everything on what's essentially minimum. I ran the same test with the F15 (your plane choice wasn't stated) and encountered fluctuations between 64-75 with the DK2 on the ground at Groom. Dense object areas just wreck the frames, it seems. ATW only goes so far, but this NTTR map is tough for even my machine to handle - on minimal settings, no less. My last PC was a 3820 with 780 and shelved it for this one. It seems to me that DCS and VR need to fine tune their relationship together. NB: I do have shadows on LOW - I like them on and visible from the seat.
  19. I was blown away when I sat in the SU25's seat with the DK2...this was about two years ago...I just sat there for 20 minutes taking it in. It was astonishing. It still is. One time I was racing where I came around a corner with the setting sun right in my eyes. I instinctively put up my hand to block it...then laughed realizing it wasn't really there. VR is the future.
  20. Congrats, Dave! I'm not sure if ticking the box "Autodetect Oculus Rift" will help get the Vive going. That's accessible in your options menu; click the gear symbol at the top center of the screen. I use the Oculus, but this thread here may help: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=139912 There are Vive folks who post to that thread regularly. I'd bet they can guide better.
  21. What material benefits will this new card offer specifically for VR fans who enjoy DCS? Without specs and comparison tests directly with DCS it's difficult to ascertain (and an exercise in speculation at best) what benefits it will offer over a GTX980ti to make it worth the money - and the wait - for use with DCS/VR. I consider passmark to be the great equalizer when it comes to hardware. Right now the 980ti is the top of the heap, and unless someone is coming from an older gen card AND the new one trounces the #1, I'm wondering where the value proposition is other than DX12. And since DCS doesn't use DX12, what's the win? http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html (NB: My EVGA card scored 11402 passmarks running the 364.72 drivers)
  22. I'm running v1.5.3.52478, but I don't think I have v1.5 beta installed; is there a way to check? The version I am running did not autoupdate this morning, so I am presuming this is the non-beta installation.
  23. Agreed! The mouse is a must!
  24. It's a great idea, but like Swoodle, I don't see ED doing it. Perhaps they could load up a set of optimizations specific to VR when a VR device is detected that can accomplish the same thing, the "Best Settings" like stated above.
  25. It's impossible to speculate about what's coming from nvidia or what type of performance gains will be there. The 980ti is king of the hill right now. Staying a year or two behind what's current is a good way to save some money, too. I don't water cool and I don't upgrade a PC with new parts. I build a new one every two or so years and warehouse the previous one or repurpose the old one into a new role not requiring gaming duties. passmark.com is your friend. See all of the benchmarks. The 6700k is really the best choice. The 5930/5960 really isn't utilized to its full capacity with DCS and other games. I'd have gotten one myself but I had a brand new Asus X99mb and used it. Believe it or not a guy can get a hella good 6600 system for 800 and then add another 650 for the video card. It's very realistic for the home builder to build it for 1500 USD and totally blow away any pre built, "Oculus Ready" system for the same money. And it's sooo much easier nowadays...25 years ago it was misery.
