I'm an Oculus user (no hisses, pls :D ), and it's likely you guys know this but it may be that Oculus removed the HMD verification check from the latest runtimes: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive/releases/tag/0.6.2 http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/06/oculus-reverses-course-dumps-its-vr-headset-checking-drm/ It would mean, then, that ReVive runs again with the Oculus Store.

The facial interface can be reseated into position. There are many who are not pleased with yesterday's outcomes, but that's a discussion for other places. At least a new Oculus is a small consolation. I updated to 1.5 and it all still works :)

VR is worth it! I don't know about anyone else, but I am really looking forward to the next round of VR updates they put out. I hope it's tomorrow :D :D :D

Something like dcs.exe /novr would be really cool to have in the future when development time can be used to do it.

Thank you for the updates!

6700 and 1080 if you're building something new. ED needs to hook up the simultaneous frame rendering to really exploit the benefits of the 1080. @Sage - Matt Wagner said "I'm not going to talk about 'that'...or 'that'" when referring to the F/A18's in his latest livestream. He's put them in two of his videos, so I'd expect them to come "soon", FWIW.

Ok...wow...that one is detailed...thank you, gents...i'm assuming that i can just use the custom kneeboard then...hmm...i'm gonna need to fiddle with it. :joystick:

Hi friends, It's believe it's instructive for VR users to know the relationship between the base simulation frame rates and the Oculus ATW frame rates. Surely, most folks know this, the ones who are experienced users, but there may be new folks who can benefit from knowing the relationship base FPS and ATW FPS have with each other. Asynchronous Time Warp, or "ATW" is the manner at which the Oculus runtime environment attempts to keep the VR device's frame rates at the refresh rate of 90hz (FPS) so that "judder" is avoided to the best degree possible (the DK2 refresh rate is 75hz). ATW frame rates will stay at 90/75 likely all the time. The "Simulation Base Frame Rate", or "sbFPS" is the actual rate at which your sim is running, and that number will never go above 90FPS for the reason that it's locked by the implementation of VR compatibility by the developers. The goal is to keep your sbFPS as close to or at your ATW frame rate of 90fps. Your DCS FPS meter will give you the sbFPS in real time. Hardware controls this relationship. And the more capable hardware you have running your sim, the better your VR experience will be. The reason is that capable hardware will keep your sbFPS as close to your ATW frame rates all or most of the time; the relationship is proportional, and the more powerful your PC the higher your frames. The first sign of incapable hardware is the evidence of "ghosting". Ghosting is the appearance of fuzzy objects like buildings, other planes, objects, etc. You can witness this by watching your frame rate counter and moving your head rapidly. You want to avoid this scenario as the results of this can be VR induced disorientation, dizziness, nausea, or, in the worst case, possible epileptic like symptoms. I've personally found on my own PC with the CV1 that the combination of the 5930 paired with the 980ti gives me sbFPS of 90 most of the time (more tests are needed in some specific areas), but there are some intense areas where frame rates dip noticeably. I'm reading on the various forums that the 5930/5820/6700/4790 CPU comboed with the 980ti is the way to go for VR, and we are considering building a 6700/1080-or980ti machine for testing purposes. The need for good hardware can't be understated in the "VR Age". Since we're really rendering 2+ frames for every one frame of sbFPS, a stout pc is advisable. Knowing the relationship between ATW and your simulation base frame rates can help with ensuring your PC upgrades net you the best gain for the best VR experience you deserve. Happy flying! BoxxMann :pilotfly: NB: It's not my intention to launch a debate about this and that. This is for informational purposes if you are interested in it.

Mine is in my signature. We will add more slots if folks use it. -
Cool  Does it use any PDF or is a special format needeD?

If and when the knee board comes in for VR fliers, does it have the ability to access and show user-created pages if we want to use our own checklists/charts/notes, etc? I have always used VR with DCS and have no experience with the kneeboard. thank you :)

Open Source Virtual Reality - OSVR and DCS
DerekSpeare replied to wormeaten's topic in Virtual Reality
I believe this one is more of a lateral move from the DK2 to the RHDK2, but with some enhancements like 360 tracking and per-eye adjustments. The SDE will be there, but that's the way it goes. I think this is Razer's commitment into long term VR hardware/software development. They also have put up 5 million US to help it along: http://www.osvr.org/blog/?p=183 I am personally looking for a long term, high fidelity VR system not involving the future Oculus offerings. We're still in the early days, and both Nvidia and AMD haven't put their ponies into the gate yet. It will be interesting to see who's standing in 5 years. With all the backtracking and initial fulfillment debacle Oculus made I am not entirely confident that they have the long term interests of the gamer market truly at heart. Razer, however, does understand gamers much better. -

It looks much more comfortable than this CV1. If they hook up ATW and make it natively compatible with Oculus enabled titles, they will have a hit. -

Congratulations to those who are receiving their new Rifts! Matt Wagner's latest F5 video starts with some comprehensive remarks about planned VR enhancements which will surely have anyone using the technology feeling enthusiastic about ED's posture towards VR development.

There is no comparison between screens and VR. VR puts you in the world and screens only let you be an observer. I had 3-28" screens, and took them down within a week of getting my Oculus DK2. That was two years ago and I have never missed them.

It is :)

It took my order exactly 5 calendar months for mine to arrived. Ordered on 6 Jan, received 6 Jun. NB - If anyone will be at Flightsimcon in Windsor Locks CT (New England Air Museum), I will see you there :pilotfly:

Mine was schedule for end of May and then flopped to 20-30 June with free shipping. I got my notice on the 2nd and received the order on the 6th. I hope everyone gets their orders early!

Hopefully in time ED will really have DCS running like a military level simulator with VR, and I think they will. It might take a few more years, but I've waited 20 years just for CV1 and this, so it's ok. I think they are fully aware of the demands on optimization that VR creates.

Will those tools help make the radio comms menu and messages easier to read for VR people?

VR is the future. Screens are irrelevant. Resistance is futile.
