  1. That's an interesting idea about selling it, but I want to keep it. And yes, they are paying 500+ for a DK2...wth?!?! I am thinking of getting some replacement goggle foam and a VR cover to get some more padding in this thing. I've adjusted it all it will go. It'll eventually be ok :joystick:
  2. There's just something about that new Rift smell... Hi all, It arrived today, and it was a nice surprise. Since we pretty much know a good bit about it, I won't write too much. However, there are some initial thoughts I have coming from a DK2 user for almost two years. I had an opportunity to demo both the CV1 and the Vive recently, and I liked what the CV1 offered over the other device. I outlined my thoughts in two separate threads here. Since I have had more time with the CV1 today, here are some of my other observations: 1 - FOV - Less than the DK2. It was a disappointment when running FSX with FlyInside 2 - SDE - Minimal. I'd expect SDE not to be an issue in a CV2 in the future, but you can see it 3 - "God Rays" - I didn't get a chance to see its effects in the demo. Mine has it to a degree, but it's not so bad as to make it a deal breaker, but it is there 4 - Comfort - more comfortable than the Vive (personal taste) but not as comfy as the DK2 5 - Initial Setup - I've been running the DK2 and OH 1.4 program, so setup was simple enough. I get a warning telling me to update my USB3 drivers, but the Oculus system compatibility test tells me all is green...strange, but I'm ignoring it. 6 - Sound - I have good Plantronics muffs, so I just removed the Oculus ones and disabled the sound/recording device in the Device manager 7 - The "Puck" thing - I like it and it doesn't cost a USB port...just talks to the HMD. I didn't think I'd like it, but I do "BoxxMann's Thoughts" I'm pleased that the thing worked, and from reading the Oculus forums one would expect a pig in a poke when the box arrives. Mine installed without trouble, and I specifically built a new PC to accommodate the CV1 and made sure everything passed every test there was. Shaking it down with the DK2 for three months helped the transition. Everything was simple in my case. Unfortunately, I am not as enthusiastic about it as I'd like to be, but I didn't have unrealistic expectations. The diminished FOV, somewhat ergonomic discomfort and "god rays" are evident negatives. But it is a step up from the Dk2 by way of image clarity, especially at a distance. That part has improved a good bit. To be fair, I need to get more time with this thing before I really have a feeling for it. I'm expecting that my observations in other sims like PCars, DCS and FSX/P3d-FI with respect to image clarity to be improved in iracing when they (hopefully) release the update. Here in DCS the cockpits are much more crisp. The F15 hud easily readable when in a normal seated position. Small labias and gauges need you to lean a bit to see clearly. I have not done any A/A yet. Anyhow, those are my observations. Hopefully when the CV2 arrives in whenever, there will be abundant FOV, no SDE, much better lenses and much better comfort. Note that if you are not using VR, you must! Host PC: i7-5930 at 4.2 | GTX980ti | 1tb Evo SSD | and some other stuff Pics: DK2 Retirement - Goodbye ole buddy! (going to a new life on the DSD Demo chassis as the DSD Center)
  3. My company has a comprehensive list of certain components of interest to DIY cockpit builders. See this page: http://www.derekspearedesigns.com/technical-guide.html We also have some other cool things there, too.
  4. I'm just happy the mouse pointer appears to be returning :D Here's a screenie from his livestream...dunno which icon it is...
  5. Me too! It's evident that ED/Wags and company understand the urgency and necessity for proper VR support. @adrian - from what I know the future "V2.5" will harmonize the maps in V1.5 and V2 into one package. I am guessing that they will then include the Hormuz map as well.
  6. Here are some I have compiled. I have most of them: https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/35849/what-are-your-favorite-vr-games-with-the-oculus#latest
  7. The ghosting is the result of low frame rates. As Frusheen has said, lowering frame rates are the only thing you can do. But in your case you are at the bottom of the settings, so you have no more to give. At that point your best solution is to look to "other means" of increasing your FPS such as overclocking your CPU and/or GPU, which may have marginal gains at best, or something more invasive such as incorporating your wallet to help with a beefier video card such as a 980ti or 1080. I run all of my settings on low as well with only low cockpit shadows and a few other modest settings, and get ghosting over areas where there are many objects. If you turn on your frame counter and then CTRL+Pause again you will see more data in real time. From there you will see that FPS and Object Count (or whatever it is) have an inverse relationship, so that FPS is high when objects are low. More computing power is the only solution I can identify. Clearly, however, one cannot build a system powerful enough with any hardware available that will run DCS in VR with everything on max and achieve a solid 90fps at all times.
  8.
  9. FWIW, I have had cabling problems with my DK2 due to pulling on them. I replaced everything and have anchored all of the DK2 cables to my case with zip ties to prevent stain on the ports. I also have an EVGA 980ti card and it's quite good; solid performance. *touching wood* I hope you get it all sorted out, Roi! Oculus support seems to be undermining their own success :/
  10. Is this Adrian from iRacing? I use Andre's Sim Shaker utility with 2 shakers and a 100w amp under my seat...very subtle for me and I love it.
  11. This is my favorite convention! All application interaction on the main screen, flying/driving/playing/whatever on the Oculus.
  12. I forgot one critical one: Larger text font for seeing radio comms
  13. My personal must haves are: In-the-cockpit-viewable-in-VR clipboard/kneeboard Mouse (we know its status) Binoculars Mouse flyouts when hovering over cockpit control elements I really don't ask for much :smartass:
  14. Thank you for waging the advance on our behalf! It's a disappointment that they have no (or appear to be indifferent to) developer support channels. I witnessed the same frustration from two other developers of popular VR titles.
  15. Yes, thank you. I ran the tool, but in DCS with the DK2 it degrades frame rates. Since I don't have my CV1 yet, my ideas are only rooted in using the DK2 with DCS for about 2 years.
  16. I'm in all the cool places with all the cool peeps :smartass: :smartass: It's more cool now that you're here! I use the mouse, HOTAS and button controllers. I find that a good combination of the three give the performance I like. The Leap is a cool solution, and with the Orion package, quite robust, but it can be cumbersome and difficult for those who like more control. Some love it, and the option should be there, but I have reservations for the technology in the long term for it does not offer any tactile feedback. Maybe one day that will change, but it's a difficult problem to solve.
  17. I have considered that some of the symbology in the hud and on the instruments could be optimized with fonts and graphics that are easier to read and identify for VR users. While I appreciate the attention to realism, there are limits in cases where it becomes the tail wagging the dog.
  18. The Oculus forums have become a crabfest over RMA complaints and waiting times...:music_whistling: My card does not run at full speed, but close to it when running OH. I'll make it a point to inspect this when I fly again. Thank you!
  19. There is another VR flight program that allows you to designate a button to activate your binoculars and then it allows you to bind the zoom in and zoom out control onto an analogue axis input or two other buttons. Very, very useful! I'm positive a feature like this would be well appreciated in DCS.
  20. The type of labels I'd like to see are ones that have font size grow and shrink in proportion to the distance you are from that object being labelled. For example: When you're far away from an object, its label is really small. When you get close to it, say within a mile or so, the label is the normal size. I saw a labeling system like this years ago, but I cannot remember where. It would also be really good to have brevity labels where only the object type and distance to it are shown. For Example: Instead of "SAM xxx Patriot bla bla bla 5.6 miles", I'd like "AG 5.6". This way labels don't clutter up matters. I use VR and like labels. I don't run them all the time, but they are good to have. The labels in DCS could be more efficient from a user's point of view.
  21. See this stickied post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=165411 It appears from official commentary that they plan to bring it back. Some of us who have been using another program have been spoiled
  22. I'm not sure where they are on the Leap. I personally do not like it :) There are a few threads from other folks discussing the Leap in this subforum.
  23. Thanks :) I will start dialing tomorrow and see what shakes loose :P I may buy a few of them too if I can find any :joystick:
  24. HA! Now you're bragging! I am in the Tampa Bay area, but when I access bestbuy.com and pull up the Oculus it tells me sold out. Is there any way to access store inventory on their site or do we need to call each store?
