BoxxMann's Tips - Adjust Seat/Eyepoint with VR
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
I think in this case it's confusing for anyone who speaks Russian or uses the Cyrillic alphabet. "KP" in English would be different in Russian. I'd suppose we'd use клавиатура. I'm not entirely sure of what "numeric pad" would be called in Russian...my Russian is very rusty after years of disuse...maybe "номерные клавиатуры" would work or "HK"? -
I don't interact with the OH program and really have no use for it other than for the runtimes. I'm looking to develop a puck of our own that the user/pilot/racer can keep in his lap with various buttons and a jog switch for navigating, etc. Like a HOTAS joystick but without the base...just a cord. I really don't know what the pculus dongle is by way of hardware classification, but I'm hoping not to have to connect it and the xbox thing to use my CV1 when it comes. Where's the vid?? I saw the one on your site...really cool! Ang congrats to Revelation!

BoxxMann's Tips - Adjust Seat/Eyepoint with VR

You're welcome! -
Dunno yet...still waiting for it...my DK2 doesn't have that dongle. I'm thinking that it's some proprietary dongle and not a standard hid. Since I won't interact with the Home program I won't use the dongle or xbox controller anyhow...too many controllers connected already. Congrats to Shogun!

BoxxMann's Tips - Adjust Seat/Eyepoint with VR

Pushing up for those who need it :) -
Cheers :) Assetto Corsa, Live for Speed and Pcars are great for VR (not wanting to go off topic ;)) It's odd the eyepoint control you have. I have no issue with it in v1.5 stable. Perhaps you have the beta and something is not harmonized with the stable and beta that's giving rise. Dunno :/
-
Seems like the eyepoint position is not getting saved in the Alpha version. I have it too in the F15...I'd need to check others. I don't experience this in the v1.5 stable release. Welcome to VR! I've been waiting 20 years for it!

Oculus Rift CV1 and DK2 Side By Side Lens View
DerekSpeare replied to VR-Hunter's topic in Virtual Reality
I demoed both the Vive and the CV1. The SDE on the Vive isn't much better than my Dk2, and the SDE is significantly better on the CV1 than the DK2. The smaller FOV on the CV1 is not significant enough to offset the major benefit of increased clarity, and when you add in the benefit of ATW, the facts stack up in favor of the Oculus. The Oculus is the best choice for driving and flying games without question (IMHO). -
I am curious how that controller is enumerated in your Windows device list. You should set all of your graphics to LOW and get out over open desert and test. You should be pulling 90fps with your system.

You can maximize the DCS mirror so your mouse doesn't deactivate it as the main task in windows preventing the dead stick scenario. It's either ALT+Enter or CTRL+Enter. SkateZilla posted this in a few threads.
-
Hopefully they will re-enable the mouse soon! I'm not sure of any workarounds other than suffering through it :/
-
It's my understanding that they will likely allow mouse control as well. The human head is not the best at being used where fine motor coordination is required like in the case of mouse inputs.

It is clear that ED is fully behind the VR effort. I'm pleased they are. But I must ask about these "screenshots of the 18C"...what's this all about? Did I miss something?
-
Wow - this is an example at being ahead of the curve like I have not seen before! Even better! I run the v1.5 stable and the v2 alpha. SSD's are plenty inexpensive these days, and DCS loads up quickly on the SSD. M.2 drives are even faster ;)

I think someone is going to need to decode all of those settings in the tool to make it useful to those who are in the dark.
-
Well, Boys...I gave this debugtool hack a go and didn't see any difference visually with the DK2. However, taking the value from 0 to 2 gave me a big judder fest in DCS. Resetting it back to 0 cleared it up. There are a lot of other values in that tool to adjust. The HUD overlays are interesting to see.

No amount of screens will accomplish the sense of presence that a VR HMD will give. The difference is that VR crosses the psychological bridge where instead of watching the world act on your character and it act on the world, you are present in the game where you act upon the world and the world acts upon you. I've not been able to describe it better than this.

It's DCS's frame counter: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=164892

You need to pace yourself. Close your eyes at times to reorient your brain. It takes some time at first, so be patient. I recommend that folks stop as soon as they feel some discomfort and then come back. You new guys are spoiled with the CV1 and ATW...back when I got my DK2 almost two years ago you just needed to "power through" the drops in frames and deal with the judder :joystick: ATW really makes a difference! Turn on your frame rate counter and then fly low over Las Vegas. Then move your head around and you'll see the apparent ghosting of all of the objects as your system frame rates drops below your device refresh rate (kicking in the ATW). Keep in mind that the lower your system frame rates go the worse the ghosting will appear to the point of real judder if the frames go way too low.

Ha! Since I'm "in the business" my beautiful Italian wife encourages me to get these things! One of my Techs got his CV1 Wednesday...he mysteriously caught the "Oculus Flu" that day... I wrote up my experiences with both the CV1 and Vive demos here in this subforum. Vive's roomscale and controllers are fantastic, but for flying/racing sims, it's irrelevant. The Cv1 has better image quality anyhow AND ATW! To get the best performance make sure you run everything down in your graphics options first and slowly tune up from there, testing as you go...I've been chasing frame rates since the days of QEMM and Falcon 3.0 :D I'm giving Milepapa's suggestion a go to see what the preload radius does for frame rates. It's likely that I should just turn off the frame rate counter as the ATW makes up for any issues nearly all of the time anyhow :pilotfly:
