Yes I'm sure Gabe is sitting there, Monty Burns-style hatching capitalisation schemes. Outside of exclusives, I don't see the compatibility issues you mention being an issue for too long (but maybe that's just hope on my part).

Thanks, Jar! I'm not in Bris, but that doesn't mean we can't MP. Would have been good for a tech comparison though.

Vive incoming! ETA next week, Aus.
-
No rush.

Got a link? I'd love to check it out.
-
Then why did that review upset you?
-
Not entirely wrong though, until Touch is released. Got a link? I'd like to check it out. Yeah, that's annoying. Happens heaps too. People compare the CV1 to the DK2 too. Drives me nuts. Why do you care so much, anyway? Why did this upset you?

VERY EXCITED for you!!! Please keep us posted!

As far as I'm aware zoom still does not work, nor the kneeboard, which (most frustratingly) would be so handy in VR when you can't reference outside the pit for info you need.

I'd say that would be in-engine too, wouldn't it, and not part of the SDK? Lowering resolution might work ok for some first-person experiences, but I don't think it's going to cut it for simulations like DCS. Going to be very interesting to see how this plays out, not that I think TW is a silver bullet, but every little is going to help when it comes to DCS framerates. Interesting quote from here:

Congrats, Jar! Keep us posted! Let us know how it all goes.

It looks pretty good, but is it worth the extra $$$? Time will tell.

What happens if you shift the HMD vertically on your face? ie instead of rotating it outward at the top, shift the whole thing up/down without rotation? Might be worth a shot, I know that clarity for me revolves (no pun intended) around the vertical position of the HMD against my face more than anything.

We have differing definitions of "many". I am fairly active in this thread, yep. Would prefer not to have to deal with seething Oculus "fanboys" bringing their "elitism" to the Vive thread, but you see something, you say something. Someone got slammed for saying that the Vive was the way to go. For shame. For example? Probably For example? Hypocrisy across adjacent paragraphs within a single post! Impressive. Don't know why you'd say that, but thanks for the compliment. ditto, I guess? What a shame, it's so great that I have someone like you here to show me my faults and put your hypocrisy on display for us all to admire. Edit: Can I just say, that where there is constructive conversation to be had, I get involved. Sometimes I say things adamantly that are incorrect. And if I'm corrected, I cop to it, and apologise. There are many people that have already made their decision to buy a Rift, but feel the need to cross-post in this thread when someone challenges any notion that the Rift is the way to go. I love the Vive, it is the best. But, if you look through my history (and can get past the oozing elitism and arrogance), you'll see "many" times that I have said, specific to DCS, that the Rift may be the better way to go. Brismix, your last few posts have added ZERO.

If Wags wants to leak some details, I doubt anyone would say no. I put that around zero chance of happening.

Exactly. It's a political non-starter. We're just going to have to wait a few more weeks. Even then, I think there are going to be so many aspects between these headsets that are so close to parity, that people will justify their position subjectively, so that type of debate will likely never die. "In my experience" will then become the catch-cry. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that, aside from the fact it does lend itself to purchase justification.
-
Ahh yes, I I should have made that a little more clear, combined with the foveated rendering. Good point.
-
StarVR looks really interesting. That resolution though... For something like DCS, I get the feeling you're going to need a mix-n-match combination of 3 things: Foveated rendering DCS DX12 (or Vulkan if you're pipe-dreaming) A high-end computer from the year 2020.

I'm not even sure they're the enemy ;)

It's easy for people to have an opinion. I have an opinion based on a hell of a lot of reading and watching. I don't have first-hand experience, but I've read and seen enough to know that I think the Vive is the best fir for what I want. And I'm happy to try to convince others of why I think it is better for certain reasons. The other aspect is people that want to justify a purchase they've made (though I think that tends to get over-stated when things get heated) I agree, I think they both will be great, but people shouldn't be stopped from sharing their opinion of what they consider best, and why. There should definitely be a focus on how people deliver their opinions, however. Some of those discussions change peoples perspective, and ultimate purchasing decision. Which is a good thing, if what they get in the end is better suited to their needs. Rift vs Vive was inevitable, to some extent, simply because people are not going to agree on what is best. But that in itself is a great thing. If there was a clearly superior product (objectively), that would actually not be as good, in my opinion, because it would likely lead to a failure of one and a lack of choice in the market. It's great that many of the arguments for and against can be largely considered nit-picky, or at the very least contestable. Things will calm down once us kids get our toys.

Then you probably shouldn't say things like "we've all". What? That just sounds like a poor attempt at intellectual elitism. Why's that?
-
There are a number of reasons, really. Cost is one, but there are also those don't have an interest in room-scale, especially those that are merely interested in VR for simulations like E.g. DCS or iRacing. It is also said that some find the screen quality to be better in the Rift. All the differences will be most clear when people start receiving their pre-orders.
