23/06/2014 Update Dear pilots, Thank you all for confirming your participation. As mentioned initially, we said that we wont go for more than 24 pilots for server stability reasons, though we ended up with 28 pilots in for this Saturday. We want everyone in the party, but at the same time, we would like to avoid going above the stability threshold that we set initially. Therefore, we have decided to run 2 back-to-back battles of 7vs7 each on Saturday, then winning teams will face each other on Sunday. We believe this is the best solution to give everyone a chance to fly Op Joint Warrior in a hopefully smooth environment. Aircraft allocation above is not relevant anymore so anyone can choose a different jet according to the needs of the team. We will have 4 teams of 7 pilots each. Possible configurations (up to the team to decide) are 6 fighters + 1 striker OR 5 fighters + 2 strikers. Remember guys that this is not a death match, it's a tactical mission and the objective is to STRIKE the primary enemy airfield (Red Gudauta and Blue Sukhumi). The point system has been revised to reflect that and according to real unit cost: AWACS = 150pts Battleship = 100pts Tanker aircraft = 60pts Fighter = 50pts Striker = 25pts S-300/Patriot = 80pts (for the whole battery) Tor/Hawk = 40pts Strela-10/Shilka = 6pts Other vehicles and stationary targets = 1pt A 100% bonus of the SAM value if at Gudauta/Sukhumi We will try to make squadron members fly together as a team as much as possible, so here is our suggestion: Team 1 DanielNL - Kunz - =36=Gaanalma - 373vFS_TaliG - 373vFS_Greg - 373vFS_Chrico - 373vFS SPANKER 373vFS_Crash (Reserve) Team 2 - 104cdt_Blaze - 104th_RIPTIDE - 104th_Maverick - 104th_Spade - =2IAE=FahhhBG - TurboRUSH - Slowhand Team 3 =UVAF=Backfire - =UVAF=ALexfly - =UVAF=GregOzby - =UVAF=Voka - =UVAF=Recoba - =UVAF=MAD_MAX - =UVAF=Peter Team 4 <51>Breakshot, <51>Frostie, <51>Teknetinium, <51>X-man, <51>Soviet - <51>Rage - <51>Camper - <51>Shaman (Reserve) Note: Squadrons wishing to position their pilots differently can request so. Pilots agreeing on swapping their positions can request so. Team roster changelog Upon 51st request: Shaman and ralfidude moved to Team 1, Camper and Rage moved to team 4. Upon 51st request: Shaman moved back to team 4, one 51st pilot will be on reserve - 1 free slot available in team 1 for people on the wait list (373rd SPANKER contacted) Ralfidude withdrew on 26.06.14 - 1 free slot available in Team 1 (ECV56 and 71st squadron contacted) Moved 373rd from T2 to T1 to join Spanker who replaced Ralfi in exchange of Slowhand and TurboRUSH. Crash from 373rd put on reserve for Team 1. SCHEDULE & RULES Saturday 28 June at 1830z: Pre-flight general gathering (TeamSpeak: 51st.hopto.org) Saturday 28 June at 1900z: Team 1 vs Team 2 (104th server) Saturday 28 June at 1930z: Team 3 vs Team 4 (51st Server) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday 29 June at 1900z: Final battle -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Each battle maximum duration is 3 hours after which the team with the highest score will be declared winner. If draw, the team with more survivors, having inflicted more damage to primary target win. Battle will stop if all anti-air defenses are wiped out at primary target. Play hard, play fair and most of all have fun! To all pilots standing by in the wait list: Please feel free to drop by on Saturday in case of a last minute no show. We would have included everyone if it was possible stability-wise. Also, please subscribe to sa-sim.com to be notified on time about upcoming events. Thank you all for your interest.

Hi mate, it's no bother! You're in now. Thanks :)
-
Roger that guys, I'll send this to Maverick. @Slowhand: No Worries mate, we'll keep one A-10C for you. Thanks guys.
-
@Ralfidude, Slowhand and Chrico: Who would like to switch to Su-25T guys so we can update the map accordingly?
-
Confirmed, thanks Spade. Noted Mav, you reminded me that I'll have to see who will be taking on Red GCI!
-
G-Monster inside that 27, no doubt...
-
NOTAM on 1st page amended. Thanks mate.
-
Anytime mate. Sooner or later, you'll have to go through your baptism of fire :) Many seasoned and veteran pilots will be out for blood on this one, I'd suggest that you grab the post-battle ACMI once available and dip into that.

What's up with this low level tracking
FLANKERATOR replied to Maximus_Lazarus's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Laughed so much watching the Tacview video (caricature and comments), very amusing :D Stick with it, you've got tons of good advice in here. -
I thought so :)
-
MiG21? You'll be among your squadmates, flying an Su-27 out of Anapa mate. Confirmed, thanks mate! Sure, standing by til you sort it out guys. Great Soviet, than you!
-
Thanks Max! all 7 slots confirmed for Backfire, Alexfly, GregOzby, Voka, Recoba, Mad_Max and Peter. Maverick/Riptide, who will fly and who will be GCI? :)
-
You're already registered mate, I just confirmed your slot, you're in. Thanks. Yes Rage, we discussed that extensively yesterday. This time, we will give extra care to the client/server connection procedure. On top of that, we will try to not exceed 24 slots. We will try to follow the new procedure on the 51st server, and if anything happens, we will try the 104th server. There have been no desynch issues reported on the 104th server lately. Maybe that day, something was not quite right on the 51st server or in the network itself. I feel that the odds are better this time.

Glad to see interest is still in there! I've updated the 1st post accordingly, thank you all! @Ralfi: As previously mentioned, Sochi has a small SHORAD system (2 Strelas and 2 TORs), the counterpart for Bluefor is Batumi having a complete HAWK system with significantly longer range to compensate for a small distance deficit between Sochi/Gudauta and Sukhumi/Batumi, which is inherent to the DCS map itself. Maverick, who designed the mission, is planning to tweak it even further and will let all of you know about the final version, which we will upload into the planning rooms. Updated NOTAM

Dear pilots, We apologize for the wait and thanking you all for your patience. We're happy to announce, after our meeting yesterday with 51st and 104th officials, that we will host Operation Joint Warrior again on Saturday 06/28 at 1900z. Here are the changes, improvements that we have decided to make: The 104th server will be standing by the 51st server as a back up host. make sure to update your DCS to the latest release version (Not BETA). We're going to move from 30 slots to 24 slots (12vs12 - 9 fighters + 3 strikers for each side); this means less slots and we hope we will accommodate all those who will be able to fly in 2 weeks. A2G-wise, Su-25T and A-10C will be available for both sides, in an attempt to balance SEAD capabilities between the teams. Players will have to join TeamSpeak first, then wait for clearance from the admin to join the server; the idea here is to avoid having everyone connecting to the server at the same time. Here is the list of pilots who participated last time, kindly CONFIRM your slot again, or let us know if you can't make it on June 28th, so others can take over from you. ROSTER Confirmation needed before 06/21 Callsigns in red or blue have confirmed their slots for the 28th. The rest will be pending confirmation until 21st June, then wait list will take over on first come first served basis. Situational Awareness - The Virtual Battlefield Journal
FLANKERATOR replied to FLANKERATOR's topic in Multiplayer
Hi Daniel, OP Joint Warrior is still being discussed, we will decide soon on whether we give it another shot or skip it. Other events that are being considered are: SATAC 2014 (Squadron A2A championship) Top Gun Trophy 2 (1vs1 or 2vs2 BFM contest) Both events wouldn't suffer from stability issues (no AI, low human count), so chances are good to kick these off once the Su-27 gets an AFM. -
4 players won't be enough to put enough strain on the game, even with extensive AI usage. Let's see when more players join in. Thanks for reporting back, much appreciated!

Missile guidance while notching (R-27ER)
FLANKERATOR replied to Kenan's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
AFAIK, radar lock can be broken for several reasons, but not for reaching gimbal limits. A SARH missile doesn't emit, it only has a passive detector that receives reflection from the target. The radar signal is provided by an external source, the aircraft radar in the case of the R-27. -
Thank you for your work. Aren't there any fighters for air superiority? It would be great if you could post some info stability wise, once the battle is over, like how many players joined, and if there was any stability-related issues like server or client crashing, desynchronisation, lag...etc Thanks!

I think you'd be putting yourself in constant danger like that. Keep in mind that the purpose of the jammer in FC is: - Deny range and altitude data to your enemy. - Break lock when outside burn-through range. - As a diversion for your wingmen flying radar off. However, remember than whenever your jammer is on: -Your RWR warning on incoming ARH missiles will be very late, sometimes couple of seconds before impact. - Others can lock you from very far, thus shooting at you on HOJ. - Radars can track you very easily. - Nearby ballistic ARH missiles tend to acquire you easily. - Your chances to be victim of a fratricide are very high. Bottom line: Use it with caution, don't keep on all the time.

I agree with Exorcet. I never quite understood why does anyone have to sacrifice his own SA when heading back home, so that I can be sure that anybody painting me is a foe. Off course, you can ask your squad-mates to shut their radars off temporarily, they may comply if they can at that specific moment, but asking friendlies to fly blindly systematically on RTB has never made sense to me. More than often, I spotted enemies on my way back home, sometimes sneaking up on friendlies who just took off. I'd say, it's up to you to use your radar to build you SA and determine when taking a shot is safe and when it's not. HOJ shots especially when the server is crowded is a big gamble with a low PK anyway, it's not worth it in my opinion.

I'm quite sure Falcon or anyone else wouldn't have survived that if those 27's were not AI. Let's face it, all were look-down shots, and Falcon was maintaining 6G all the time, if you want to use an ER, you would need at least to adjust PRF as the target's aspect changes, not to mention ground clutter. I know all of you know this stuff, but many keep arguing AI does not matter...how does that make sense? Nobody said missiles do not need an overhaul, but let's just face the fact that AI logic sucks big time. I remember a very similar video posted a while ago by an RvE member (Surrounded by a bunch of AI 27's firing ER's from above and all missing), exploits in lomac/fc have always existed, you remember the under 10m exploit or invincible barrel roll?)....bottom line: AI just sucks big time. No need to put a plethora of useless AI, take 2 human pilots who know their stuff and try to fool their ER's from that range. ER's and other missiles do need a revision, but in this case, most of the blame in on broken AI.
