  1. http://www.e-publishing.af.mil/shared/media/epubs/AFI11-246V3.pdf Here's AIR FORCE AIRCRAFT DEMONSTRATIONS (F-22) PROCEDURES, I assume it's still current. You can see that there are strict limitations on what can be done. I think the procedures for the Mig/Su would be "BET YOU CAN'T DO THIS, WOOHOOO!!!"
  2. Draken can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do4EYztU2yg Still think the X-31 pnwes all.
  3. All boring compared to the T-REX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8t41avFuCc
  4. Looks good, except for the nose. Nothing wrong with a "conventional" tail rotor ask the Russians ;)
  5. Note sure about the F-16 but I would guess it went through the same testing as the F-22. Most of those migs were probably already grounded as well due to mechanical problems, thus getting stuck in the snow :P According to Brent Poulson, the F-22 combined test force climatic laboratory program manager, since the F-22 arrived at Eglin in early June, the Raptor has been subjected to cold weather tests such as -40 degrees with its engines running, and then -65 degrees without an engine run. "We had eight inches of snow on top of the aircraft and also performed a windblown snow test," Poulson said. About 70 people from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., accompanied the aircraft here to analyze how the F-22 performs in weather extremes. "We've been planning these weather tests since at least 1987, and the tests are an extremely integral part of the program," said Brig. Gen. William J. Jabour, program executive officer for fighter and bomber programs for the assistant secretary of the Air Force. The general visited the F-22 CTF recently while attending a conference here.
  6. On the stats side yes because it increases your probability of kill. Pkcum = 1 - (1- Pk)**n where Pk = missile Pk n = number of missiles fired. so say the 7m has a pk of .15 in lockon then a salvo of 2 missiles will have a pk of: .2775 or 27.75 % chance of a kill. The problem in lockon though is the low pk of the missiles and the abilitly of a tgt to beam you and break lock even though the Signal to Noise ratio of the main beam should be very high for the range of the target. ie no returns from the ground within the range resolution of the antenna. Just because a tgt is lower than you shouldn't course a break lock.
  7. I can only see them if I pick them up of the launch rail at 12nm or closer .. when you can still see the smoke plume. I don't think the missiles or the smoke plume is visible enough according to real world accounts, especially high altitude launches.
  8. I don't think it's RWR, it's more likely the NCTR modes of a radar.
  9. Anyone know what "codes" the article is referring too? NCTR? http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22451478-2,00.html
  10. Hmm guess he can't read, NO STEP.
  11. This is a must have if it ever makes it to DVD http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northwest/sites/holyhead/pages/producer.shtml
  12. Who's there?
  13. Scary stuff!! v 1 x B-52 was lost returning to Diego Garcia(USAF) - 4300th BW(P), Diego Garcia AB from 42nd BMW at Loring AFB - mechanical problems after an engine loss in combat - enroute back to Diego Garcia experienced a total electrical failure followed by a complete power loss of the remaining seven engines - 2-3 miles off of Diego Garcia, maximum confusion in the cockpit and crew continued to glide towards the water, 1:00 am local, 5pm EST (Sat) - at around 1200 feet to 200ft, all of the crew ejected or bailed out - down-ejecting crew hit water hard and drowned - 3 recovered, 3 MIA and assumed lost - post war debriefs imply that pilots were confused and screwed up the emergency procedures sequence resulting in late (low) ejections and bail-out call
  14. There was one at 20nm when positive ID was determined.
  15. Look at the year "insert MR T's favorite expression here". It was nothing to do with the war on terror!! The site is interesting as it has accounts of many problems with the US aircraft/loses/kills etc. Pilots on both side flying into the ground etc ... :poster_ban:
  16. http://www.sci.fi/~fta/Day-29.htmKILLS: v1 x F-15E kills a hovering helo with an LGB on Valentine's Day ... 4th TFW/335th TFS/89-0487 ... Pilot: Capt Richard T. Bennett, WSO: Capt Daniel B. Bakke ... Bennett had 4 x GBU-10's (2000 lbs LGB's), 4 x AIM-9's, 2 x Tanks ... Wingman had 12 x Mk-82's and 4 x AIM-9's with 2 x Tanks ... Journal of Military Aviation, Vol 1/ No 2, Jan/Feb 92, pg 26 ... Air Force Magazine, Jan 93, pg37. ... original mission SCUD CAP in Northwestern Iraq 01:00 to 03:00 am ... patrol area from Al Qaim, near the Syrian border, to halfway to Bagdad just beyond H-2 Airfield, then back to the Syrian border. ... cloud deck 4,000 to 18,000 feet, orbiting above the weather ... 10 to 15 Special Forces Teams were on the ground looking for SCUD's ... one team was in trouble, 300 miles across the border ... 5 x Iraqi Helicopters were in the area, 50 nm to the west of the F-15E's ... put formation in 4 nm trail and did a FLIR let down below the weather ... FLIR got contacts, confirmed AWACS calls (AWACS call sign "COUGAR") ... AWACS gave "Cleared-to-Fire", confirmed no friendlies ... Let down to 2500 ft, below the weather, and at 15 to 20 nm, WSO had FLIR contact with Lead chopper in a wedge or "vic" formation ... ID'ed as HIND Attack Helicopters, dropping off troops against Special Forces ... planned to hit the Lead Helicopter with GBU-10 while he was on the ground ... ran-in at 600 to 700 knots, low and started lasing the Helo at 4 nm ... at bomb release the helo lifted off and climbed, bomb killed helo ... hit in lift-off from hover at about 100 kts..... KILL ... instructed Wingman to put 3 x Mk-82's in same area to kill troops ... momentary scare that they might have hit friendly helo ... went back down to et remaining helo's but had bombs dropping around them ... Special Forces Teram was extracted ... continued CAP and dropped on 1 x SCUD launchpad
  17. It's quite simple you just want to bend the air flow! That's it no more, bernoulli etc is just a method for achieving it! No theories .. it's just a very well understood fact by the engineering community, maybe not so well understoond by the ego's who fly em. :)
  18. That's one of the greatest myths of aviation ;) I was tought that by my instructor too. But lift is actually produced by the bending the airflow behind the wing. http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/newton3.html
  19. Or Killed Again Oh S#$%
  20. I can't see any standby instruments? Is it IFR approved?
  21. Bet he's glad there were no weapons or a fuel tank on the belly.
  22. Al-Qaeda leaders arrive for APEC :) http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22377829-5013109,00.html
  23. Woohooo no more ITAR issues to deal with between Australia and the US. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22369774-5013109,00.html :drunk: ps I wonder if they'll refund Boeings $500 million dollar fine for Wedgetail related ITAR breaches.
  24. Yes you'd be a very juicy target for the next gen short range missiles pulling a 180 degree reverse turn cued via the HMSD or data links, I think Thrust Vectoring will be relegated to airshows and STOL.
