  1. Maybe I misunderstood the purpose of the patches. So, In case of the Airbrake, this is actually desired behaviour for me. but in the case of the radar I want the following behaviour: - If the radar is in OFF position, I push a button and it becomes ON - If the radar is in STANDBY position, I push the same button and it becomes ON - If the radar is in ON position, I push the same button and it becomes STANDBY Similar for IR/SARH mode: - If it is set to NOTHING, I push a button and it becomes IR - If it is set to SARH, I push the same and it becomes IR - If it is set to IR, I push the same and it becomes SARH Also, I need this: - I push a button and the weapons selector rotates clockwise - I push another button and the weapons selector rotates counterclockwise I need these things simply because I don't have so many buttons on my joystick. Currently, I need 2 buttons for radar toggle, 2 buttons for IR/SARH toggle, 4 buttons for stations 1-4. I could get more functionality on my stick, if there were toggle or cycle buttons, like there are in the Flaming Cliffs aircraft modules. Any Idea how I could accomplish this?
  2. Does this work if I don't have a Warthog? edit: It doesn't. I think it's great that LN caters to users of high-end Joysticks. But I'm afraid not all of us can afford them. I wonder if it's really so hard merge some of the key commands and add them (not replace the up/down ones) as toggle commands. Something like "Airbrake On/Airbrake Off/Airbrake Toggle".
  3. Yes, it is broken. Yes, everybody knows. Even Leatherneck. Fix is being developed. Wait for Patch. Stop spamming.
  4. Soo.... Any news when this will actually land?
  5. It's as close as you're gonna get. Dude, human language is not mathematical! If people say "mig21-bis is from vietnam era", who the hell cares if there were a few switches were added? Almost the whole rest of the aircraft is the same. Are you kidding me? This is "the greatest problem" to you? Not the crappy MP interface & netcode, not regular framerate drops, not the coarsly simulated ATC or AI, not the limited theater, not the unrealistic FC-3 flight models but historic coherence?? Excuse me, but this is ridiculous. So you're just a pedant who likes to be right? Well you are in the right. Congratulations. Now please go and read your history books and let us play and have fun.
  6. While you are technically correct, you already mentioned the main point yourself: the differences in capabilities are small and there are only nuance. You have to consider two things: - Somebody actually has to *make* these aircraft, and they need as much documentation as possible. If the bis happens to be the one the developers get their hands on, so be it. - This is not a Vietnam War Era simulator, or a WWII era simulator, but an all-around simulator. And tweaking planes up or down for various variants of different areas is not realistically going to hapen. This leaves the question: what do you expect?
  7. "The Afghans" that you mean didn't have any Aircraft at all. The Afghan (soviet) government had a few Mig-21 and other aircraft, but they sided with the Soviets. The Mujahedeen were guerilla fighters who obviously did not have any airplanes.
  8. Nice Post Bassly! I stole one of the Images for my collection, if that's OK with you. So apparently, they *are* inverted.
  9. IFF is Working well enough, you just should not forget to turn it on (switch RV4). Yes, it is, it was designed that way. That doesn't mean it doesn't work without them! The problem with the Radio communication is simple: You cannot explicitly set the radio frequency to an arbitrary value, it is fixed to 20 presets. If the server admin decides to change the frequency of the AWACS (or an ATC for that matter), you're out of luck, because your channels are fixed. IF it works, it works on Channel 0. There aren't any "functions", but there are tricks. * Your zone of reception extends -45° to +45° vertically. On one hand, that means you cannot detect sources ABOVE or BELOW you. On the other hand, if do detect a threat in the zone, you can bank (or pitch) your plane until the signal stops. Then you know in which plane the target is. * While technically, you are limit to 4 directions in the horizontal, you can find the exact 3d-position of the radar source by maneuvering your plane: - If the source is exactly in front of you, then both the upper left and upper right lights illuminate - If the source is exactly right to you, then both the upper right and lower right illuminate - same for left, behind you - NOTE: it CAN happen that you are illuminated by 2 or more sources (then you will think there is 1 from the front but there are actually a left and 1 right). You can find this out by checking if the lights illuminate simultanously or alternating. * Also: Wait, is that actually possible? If this is implemented, I would totally learn those pulse frequencies. I'll take as much information as I can get I build my SA like this: - Find the direction where the enemy comes from (lets call this attack direction), and where you come from. Remember this direction well! - Find the mental "front line". On your side of it, you are "safe": you should not get shot down and you only should see friendlies on the radar. On the other side of it, there should mostly be enemies. - On the start, put the frontline halfway between enemy and allied base - If you think you are on "your side" but you see only enemies, RUN!!! Also, shift the frontline back - If you think you are on "enemy side" but you see only friendlies, shift the frontline forward. Remember the frontline and attack direction!! If you get RWR pings from one direction, you should know if this is an enemy or not, by comparing to the mental frontline you built above. Examples: - You fly from base, you are in "your" zone, you get pings from behind. -> You know you have on friendly fighter behind you. - You are over the front line flying into attack direction and get pings from the front -> Either ally who goes RTB (ask on Teamspeak!!). If not, definitely an enemy. Prepare for Aim-120 to the face. - You just took off, so you are definitely in "your" zone. You get locked. -> You think it's a stupid ally who is raygunning you or doesn't know it's rude to lock people for no reason. You think everything is fine. You get an Aim-120 to the face. Turns out, it was an enemy who slipped by all other planes in "your area" and is almost at your base. This actually happened to me  Rules for engagement: if you get pinged and you think its an enemy, just run like hell. If you don't, you get an Aim-120 to the face. You can only attack if you have an enemy on radar who did not ping you or one that pinged you only seconds ago. This is actually very important. Always be on TS and listen to everything your teammates say. Identify your friendly radar contacts: lock them up, call "raygun" and wait for "buddy spike" on the TS, then unlock them. Remember the voice or maybe the name. Try to keep track of his position, maybe keep him on radar screen. Next time he gives a "bandits" call, you can approximate enemy position from his position. Also do this with fighters coming FROM attack direction over the frontline, sometimes those are allies that RTB. I guess doing all that, I have become very annoying in Teamspeak, but I just don't have the right sensors to play solo :music_whistling: Sometimes, when you do a sortie (for example going for Strikers), you can take an F-15 with you who, this will be your "AWACS". I am by no means a good pilot, but I hope with these tactics (and with help of my teammates) I can develop OK situational awareness. I know I said a lot of times "remember this, remember that", and I agree that this is hard. The key here is practice: You cannot start to THINK when you handle your plane, your radar, your weapons. This should be automatic!!! Practise until it is. Then you have your mind free to think about the tactics, and make a mental "map" of the conflict scene. Anyway, I hope that helps.
  10. Thanks, I added the manual in question! I will skim through and add what I can find.
  11. Hi! I started to gather documents concerning the Mig 21. They're not all about the Mig-21bis, but also about Mig21-F13 and Mig21-UM. It contains: In English DCS MiG-21bis EN.pdf: The flight manual for DCS Manual_Images: The accompanying "Manual Images" ARK Channel Map RSBN Channel Map RSBN Box Pattern explanation Cockpit layout and numbering [*]READ_ME_Leathernecks_MiG21.rtf: The README for the latest DCS version [*]MAKING THE BEST OF MiG-21 w.pdf an article about combat tactics with Mig-21 [*]OAV14_Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-21.pdf: "Mig 21 - Air Vanguard 14" by Osprey Publishing, a short book about the history of the Mig-21 [*]Fighter-Performance-in-Practice-F-4-Phantom-vs-MiG-21.pdf: An excerpt from the Book with the same title, containing performance Graphs of F4 vs Mig21. ЛТХ: Technical Description in Russian, mostly tables and graphs of things Here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/eyh14uxc89acs4j/AAA_hvGC0C9A_OyO23mQEMSua?dl=0 There is still one Book that I am missing, but I kinda don't want to pay for it. It's called "Fighter Performance in Practice: F-4 Phantom vs MIG-21" If you have a link (if it even exists digitially), I would be very thankful. Edit: Thanks to user Joe Kurr, the Mig21bis flight manual is also available
  12. Radio is not working, because the missions are not updated for the DCS version.
  13. Holy crap. I did not know about that. Well, consider me convinced. "get the tracker" Are you austrian? :) That's actually a good idea! LN pls!

    Gun aiming

As mentioned by John, Also, the Gunless Mig-21 was one of the earliest versions, and the RP-22 came for the later versions. Let's all just assume that the ASP *should* have radar rangefinding information, and that LN will fix this soon™
  15. I'd say division takes too much conscious effort, especially by 3 or by 7. I multiply by 3 and then drop a zero (divide by 10). It's also more accurate!
  16. You mean in RL? Interesting, then. Well they don't seem to have super-glue grass.
  17. Once I get to the grass, there is no way to get out. Is this correct? Is the grass some sort of super-glue? Or a swamp? I get that grass isnt meant to be used for Takeoff/Landing, but being stuck forever seems a bit of harsh punishment for rolling off. Is this really intended?
  18. Sounds "epic", but TBH not particularly well suited for the main menu. I don't need my speakers fried everytime i Start dcs :noexpression:
  19. I understand that this is intended behaviour if you forget to switch on the front wheel brake, but this happens even with front wheel brake enabled.
  20. Guys, how about before we start cutting even more combat effectiveness, we let the devs focus on fixing things that should help us, such as the AA-Gun-Pipper?
  21. If you go that high, can you go over mach 1 without the afterburner?
  22. Here are my notes tfor a non-maneuvering target. Note that (for SARH) sometimes you can launch the missile "out of range" and it hits just fine. For IR missiles, the basic rule is: fire when it locks. R3-S: IR, 6 km max range, only from behind! R-55: IR, 4 km (behind), 5.5 km (side), all aspect R-13M1: IR, 6 km max (behind), all aspect R2-US: SARH, 4 km (maneuvering), 8 km (straight) R3-R: SARH, 6km (maneuvering), 11 km (straight) edit: I think i should do some more testing.
  23. Thank you. I just did and everything was fine.
  24. No, it doesn't work in the Campaing (Cold Starts) either: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130537 You have to open all mission files, make a small change and save them. Plz fix this, Leatherneck!
  25. Hey guys, I'm about to upgrade my graphics card. Is there a way to not loose my Key?
