One button press and two commands
bofhlusr replied to bofhlusr's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
@Baldrick33 I read the introductory basic and advance feature set in Joy2Key's webpage but I'm still not clear if it can do something like (as an example): --pressing a modifier key such as joystick button 11 in combination with a regular joystick button 7 = pressing keyboard 'g', 'LShift-F', 'LCtrl-t', press the NumPad minus key 3 times (again this is just an overarching example...raise the gear, retract the flaps, center the trim and decrease the throttle). In other words, I am not clear if Joy2Key has 'macro' functionality. If I understand your Speedbrake example above you're actually telling joystick button 27 using Joy2Key to: press keystroke LCntrl-b and LShift-b (after assigning this to keystroke 'a'). Do I have this right? Thank you. -
One button press and two commands
bofhlusr replied to bofhlusr's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Yaaayyy it worked. I was able to bind it to a joystick key but it could do some fine tuning. Important thing is it works. Can't thank you enough. Really appreciated. Follow-up questions: 1. Is there a way to hurry up the speed brake? It takes about 4-5 seconds to fully deploy or extend. Is there any way to cut that down to half or 2-3 seconds? 2. I tried to bind the new functionality to an un-assigned key on the A-10C (the 's') key, but for some reason I get a "No Command Available for this device" error (see below). -
One button press and two commands

@Baldrick33 and @jonsky7 ...thank you both. I'll make sure to check these solutions out. Since you might be the users who might have answers to questions I had that haven't had answers: 1. Would you know if it is possible to save a snap view so that does not snap back... For example: pressing a snap view like LWin-Numpad5 (large HUD) will not disappear when the same LWin-Numpad5 key combo is released? This functionality will be great for target practice. 2. Is it possible to combine (overload) two commands using one keybind eg. pressing joystick Button 2 extends the speed brake. Pressing Button 2 again, a second time, will retract it (it'll behave like the 'g' key. A first press of the 'g' keybind will bring the gear up. The second 'g' press will bring the gear down). Another example, press a joystick button once has you checking your back or '6' (the default F4 or external view-look backwards). Pressing it a second time, take you inside (the default F1 internal view-cockpit center). This functionality will quickly let you see if you hit your targets. Thanks. -
Anyone know if this is possible using default functionality in the A-10C? If not possible with the current game version, maybe programmatically or by modifying a lua or configuration file? For example, pressing one joystick button extends the speed brakes. Releasing the *same* joystick button also retracts the speed brakes. Thank you.

I'm practicing and doing some tests. The view I'm interested in is the giant HUD view you'd get by pressing LWin-Numpad5. The problem is it disappears after you release the button combination (LWin-Numpad5). Is there a way to assign it to joystick button so that it does not snap back to the original cockpit view before pressing LWin-Numpad5? Thank you.

I'm doing some tests and looking for very quickly starting a mission. Is there a commandline parameter for launching single player mission? I tried this but it wouldn't work. What am I missing? Thank you. "C:\DCS\bin\DCS.exe" --net-mode server "C:\Users\Admin\Saved Games\DCS\Missions\2Take-off.miz"

I paid $11.99 for A-10C way back when. $10 for the II version. I have the Steam versions too purchased on sale. The really 'bad' news is I still have 3 copies of LockOn which I never really learned and probably the same number copies of Flaming Cliffs. I have the original hard cover binder of Falcon 4 too which I can't get rid of for sentimental reasons. Add to that copies of Enemy Engaged: Apache vs Havoc and Commanche vs Hokum. Not to mention iterations of Microsoft Flight Simulator and P3D. It's only now that I'm really appreciating the tech in the A-10C. It's just not a flight sim. It's more like a flight sim, a weapons and a missile sim rolled into one. I guess that puts me in the forever newbie long-time oldie buyer. A collector maybe? Lol
-
This phrase is very... enlightening? It wasn't obvious to someone like me who do other flight sims. Thank you.

Thank you. I think I have it. (Btw, I'm aware of the 5 and 10 degree (bank limitation) and that the auto-pilot does not control the throttle.) When in alt/bank hold mode is the indicator on the HUD supposed to change from alt/hld to something else like it does when in path mode?
-
How do I engage or disengage the autopilot using the keyboard keys? The Alt-Hdg mode seems to work but not Alt-Bank or Path. Do I press the A or Q key (see below)? Also, do I press it before selecting a mode by pressing 2, 3, or 4 keys to select a mode or also or only after selecting mode the mode? Thank you.

Finally got it. The solution was provided by all. I don't know how this forum works ie. if it credits contributor for help provided, but I'll see if I can thank all. Thank you all for your patience. For future reference to all: 1. Any joystick with hat will probably work. In my case, the Logitech 3D Extreme joystick worked. The trick is to use a modifier to simulate all other hats. For example: LAlt+POV (left Alt key plus hat), LCtrl+POV, LShift+POV, LWin+POV, LCtrl+LAlt+POV, etc. (that's 20 button actions there, 4+4+4+4+4 or five types of POV hats). So, if you are a minimalist and would like to keep things simple as I do (only because I literally bought 100's of add-on for other sims most of which I never used) or if you need desk space, a simple joystick with hat, trigger and some buttons on the joystick should do the trick. 2. Moving the OSB buttons and changing pages in the MFCD screen does not necessarily mean that the MFCD is now the SOI. 3. SOI instead is very specific to a screen page in the MFCD, not to the MFCD. The screen page has to be for a sensor-equipped device too eg. TAD
-
Appreciate the replies, especially this phrase: "you are just switching through the pages. This does not make a MFCD SOI" ... and this phrase: "Note, some pages cannot be SOI since they are not a sensor, hence you won't get the "NOT SOI" message". Thank you for this clarification and confirmation. But, I've mentioned that I don't have the Thrustmaster HOTAS... Several times. It's also in the title of the YouTube video. As far as I know, long and short key presses on the Coolie hat can't be done on a joystick without a Coolie Hat. Are you all then saying that the A-10C is unusable without the Thrustmaster HOTAS or any joystick without a Coolie Hat? Because if that were true, and only the Coolie Hat functionality works on joysticks with Coolie Hats, what is the point of having the default h, j, k, u keybind keys then? Thank you.
-
Please check the short 32 second YouTube video: When I press the default 'h' and 'k' keyboard keys repeatedly the left and right MFCD responds to subsequent keypresses respectively. For example, when I press the letter 'h' key, the left MFCD *apparently* becomes the SOI because when I press the letter 'h' again the left MFCD changes from TAD, to DSMS, to TGP, etc. Note too that the asterisks is always on the HUD even though it is not the SOI. The 'container' box on the active SOI in the MFCD is also not there. Towards the end of the video, an MFCD is SOI, but the other MFCD does not say 'NOT SOI'. Other than changing the color of the HUD symbols, I don't have any other add-ons active. Any ideas as to why the game is not reacting as described in the manual (page 407). Thank you.

I'm tempted to buy the Apache. But I'm told ihelos more difficult to fly. Also, I already have the Huey, which I still even haven't touched yet. I should have waited and bought the Apache instead.

What does HOTAS Pinky Switch Aft (LCtrl-p) do?
bofhlusr replied to bofhlusr's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Got it. Thank you @jaylw314 Your quick reply really helped. It took some experimentation and testing on my part to really understand how the lighting system in the A-10 function. -
I'm curious. At the beginning of the day, IRL the plane is parked and presumably the canopy is closed (in case it rains) and presumably may not contain any fuel. How is the canopy opened then to turn on the battery? Also, after checking several checklists, I'm still not clear on the timing at start-up. AT what point in time are weapons loaded, before or after the engines are started? Wouldn't it be dangerous to load weapons after an engine starts?
-
In page 94 of the manual it says that it affects "Exterior lights according to lighting panel". I played around with the lighting buttons in the lighting panel --then looked inside the cockpit and outside the plane. It doesn't seem to have turned on or made changes to any of the lights.
