That is why the camera on the Vive is so useful. Sure it breaks any immersion but only briefly. All you have to do is to press the system button on a controller (if they are at hand) which will show a colour low res screen alongside the controller or more probably whilst in DCS, a double press of the left side button on the HMD will bring up the full "Tron View"

But it does beg the question, why have they not made it work for the Vive when there are probably as many Vive users as Rift?? Is it something that the Vive is not capable of? Or have they just not got around to doing it for the Vive yet...?

Guilty as charged. Some might remember me here but "World famous" is going a bit far. LOL :)

Found the answer guys. The pedals needed to be fully calibrated using the MFG Configurator. (RTFM) As it was they were only moving slightly as far as Win 10 was concerned and once calibrated properly with the configurator they showed full movement in the Win Game controller settings. Thanks for all the help. All Good now. Great pedals by the way, if anyone is interested in buying them. :)

Someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong. When I first had these pedals (just a couple of weeks ago) they worked fine once set up, and now that I've changed from Win 8.1 to Win 10 they just don't get recognised in either of the latest versions of DCS. They show up fine in both the MFG configurator and the Win 10 game controller settings. Was something changed in the latest versions of DCS?? HELP :helpsmilie: :helpsmilie:

It is really impossible for anyone to make any worthwhile comparison, if you don't at least give us some idea of your basic spec. Better still put the lot into your Signature, like most people have done. Then we can see how we compare. Thanks

Open options in DCS (the gear symbol at the top left of the intro page) and then on the first page at the bottom right is "Autodetect Oculus Rift" Make sure that is "ticked"

My limited experience, mainly with 1.53, would suggest that reading inner cockpit (gauges, HUD, MFCDs) is not a problem. Just lean in and ensure it's in the "sweet spot" perfectly readable, even sharp in the center of your view. It is the external acquisition of targets that's a lot more difficult. If you know where to look from TGP acquire and hence the HUD then I could make out a ZSU 23-4 from about 3 miles. Just enough time to kill with guns before he gets you. Of course things are a lot easier with Labels but I just hate using them. Here we are spending lots of money for a VR Headset to gain "immersion" and then you blow it all with huge Red or Blue labels. Also they have had the Rift for development for quite a lot longer than the Vive, so maybe there is scope for improvement in it's performance, which at present, at least with my setup, requires "Reprojection" to be On and even then there are some large drops in Frame Rate. It would be nice if ED came out with some form of guide to running in VR, which would take a lot of the guesswork out of it. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that they will eventually come out with some good Crossfire VR support for DCS in Version 2.x

Yes, would be interesting I'll see what I can do.

Monty's still pictures prompted me to publish this video, that I took with an iPhone through one of the lenses of my Vive. Now I haven't had it long enough to ensure that I'm getting the best performance. I have always been a bit put off by the usual videos showing both the Vive and Rift in DCS, that have always been taken from the "mirror" output and as a result look far sharper with better resolution than that seen in the headset. Here is a quick look at what I get. Note: 1. The screen door effect is definitely present but "disappears" in use. (you just don't see it after a short while.) 2. The obvious lens rings are at times glaring but that was mainly because of the extra light getting into the headset. Again not visible in game. 3. At times there is some electrical interference going on between the camera and the Vive but again not visible in game. Oh and I left the hands out of view.

Took a chance and ordered this 10m Active HDMI extension https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00K00Y4XY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Along with this 10m Active USB extension. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J9L8S4Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Both work well as extension of PC to Link Box. DC connection is made at the new location. Only thing to be aware is that the Camera worked fine before extension using a USB 3 connection on my computer but with the extension requires it to be in a USB 2 connection. Hope this helps anyone in the UK looking to extend the reach of their Vive. Good luck. OOps just realized that you were talking about the rift and these extensions worked for the Vive (which only requires USB 2.0)

There is an "Allow Reprojection" tick box in the VR>Settings>Performance which does a similar job as far as I can see. It smooths out any judder when loosing frames, but depending on your overall settings can result in Frame Rates of 45 or 30 fps. I wish ED would produce some sort of guide to the best settings for the Vive as well as improving optimization. :joystick:
-
But they are there in both 1.53 and 2.02. ED must have some plans to use them, maybe as mouse pointers at the fingertips!

Would love to know what your system specs are and what setting you use in DCS (version?) to get those framerates. Also what output are you using to make the video, as it looks far more like what you see through the HMD than most videos, which presumably use the Mirror output and are far sharper than in real life. (By that I mean what you see in the HMD)

Have you tried Numpad 5?

Gosh you are right. I claim senility and it was over 25 years ago that I used to fly them. But I stand by what I said about the FM not being very accurate in regard to aerobatics. Shouldn't fly helis if you want to loop and roll everywhere. :pilotfly: And for Polychop, your Rift must be way better than the Vive cause I would not call the resolution great. Far from it. The immersion is superb though. So much so that I've had to change my physical setup (I used to fly like you with my Warthog Joystick as a sidestick) to mimic the real position as I kept grabbing at fresh air, going for the stick. For Jansgi, you should also note that most of the videos that you see for both the Rift and the Vive give you a far better "version" of the resolution as they are not taken from the output to the HMD but to the "Mirror" that shows on your monitor. I must get my macro video out and film through one of the lenses and see if that gives a more realistic version of how it looks.

Sorry to disagree, but it's not a full loop. The most stressful part of a loop to the airframe is the pullout and in the case of a helicopter the speed would have built up such that the retreating blade would definitely take out the boom. I've seen other videos of Goran Krneta doing this in the Gazelle and he always rolls out of it before the speed builds up and doesn't pull out in a straight line as you would for a full and proper loop. Anyway getting off the original point and that is the FM in the sim is wrong if it allows full loops as in Polychop's vid. (Let alone an outside loop FFS) Oh and bye the way RBS in the Gazelle would make it pitch up and roll left.
-
So the guy (or I would call him a brave fool) gets it over the top and the blade stalls out to the left. Not what I would call a loop. And how do you think he would get on trying your outside loop?? I repeat, the flight model for the sim is wrong. If he' carried on to pull out of the loop he would have taken the tail boom off. And an outside loop is a joke...............
-
Flight model is rubbish if it allows you to loop (let alone outside loop) a Gazelle. I You would undoubtedly die. The rotor head is not rigid enough to allow for this, and the blades, if they stayed attached would almost certainly slice through the tail boom.

Anyone found any use for these yet. With my Vive they show up and respond to movements of the controllers but don't do anything. Also their in game orientation is at odds to that of the controller. That having been said they are nicely modelled though.

[VIVE] Missing frames - force Reprojection at 45FPS possible?
Loz replied to Kirin's topic in Virtual Reality
Just tried 2.02 beta (just out) Some major changes to UI in game, "hands" are gone, not had a lot of time with it but, frame rate still pretty poor, approx 30 fps with everything on Low / off. My spec in sig. One thing I am sure of. Now with VR I'm going to have to have my Warthog joystick in the centre of my desk. It is just too disorientating to have it as I used to, as a Sidestick. The amount of times I reached for it and it wasn't there. LOL Still lots of work to be done till it's feasible IMHO. Though the scope for really deep immersion is there. :) PS. Forgot to mention, no mouse cursor, head pointing dot instead that still requires mouse button press to activate, and ingame uses a strange horizontal type cursor?? Just had a further try. Things to note:- The gloved hands are still there but they have a strange orientation relative to the controllers (maybe meant for the Rift rather than the Vive, even though they don't have them yet.) Nonetheless they don't do anything yet. The headpointing "cursor" has a better fore and afte (Z buffer??) positioning compared to the previous iteration but is a horizontal bar that is large and yellow when not over an active point and turns to green and smaller when you can use it. With everything on Low and Off over Lake Mead at altitude maintained a steady 45fps with no jitter, same for most of the approach to Nellis but dropped to 30fps on the ground. Still quite smooth throughout though. -
[VIVE] Missing frames - force Reprojection at 45FPS possible?
Loz replied to Kirin's topic in Virtual Reality
Reprojection I'm presently looking for the best settings for mine and have found with 1.53 (at least) I get better results with Reprojection off. But with most things on low I still don't achieve 90fps. Time for a new GPU methinks, though I'm gonna wait till the new offerings form the Red and Green camps. -
Yes I saw that too. No explanation where it is from though it looks like it's DCS, the Mirage perhaps.

What size of monitor are you using?
Loz replied to bunraku's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Using a 50 inch Panasonic TX50-AX802 @ 3820x2160 60Hz and a 34 inch LG 34UMP95 @ 3440x1440
