Quite frankly, this is getting very frustrating! If you are reffering to the Flaming Cliffs manual chapter 10(Flight School) where on gods green earth does it say wait 3 minutes for INS to align???? Are you making this stuff up or are you talking from experience???? Also, what the heck do you mean by "setting joystick curves to straight diagonal" and how is this different from curved? Where in Flaming Cliffs manual is this explained???? I am not being sarcastic at all its just that I can't find any of this stuff in the manual as you and others are claiming! FYI, I can't even start the engines in SU-25 or SU-25T but I can in all other planes! Yes, I turn on power with <shift-L> put throttle to idle and then attempt to start engines with <ctrl-e> but I get zero response(and I have tried this a gazillion times)!!!! Sorry, but I am starting to run low on patience! Maybe when I downloaded the 1.12b patch it was corrupted. Don't know what to say but I am going to start all SU-25 missions from runway until this gets resolved.:helpsmilie:

Before purchasing and installing FC(v1.1) did you patch the basic version first? In other words did you go from v1.02(or whatever the last patch released for basic) to 1.1 and then 1.12b? If so, remove everything and reinstall in this order: LOMAC cd FC cd patch to 1.12b This is a well known issue...other than that I don't know what else to say! Perhaps you should check your computer for viruses/spyware, update your drivers, patch windows, check for hardware/software incompatabilities, etc...etc!
-
What version of LOMAC are you running? Even if you don't have the pay add-on Flaming Cliffs(which should be patched to 1.12B) you still need to patch the basic version! Unpatched you are likely to get more crashes then the rest of us...for example, I remember my computer freezing everytime I choose summary in the mission editor and then clicked on enemy units. Another frequent reason for crashes was overloading a mission with units, both friendly and enemy.
-
Let me decide what is relevant and what is not. True I am not an expert in the startup procedure of the SU-25T but common sense and a basic understanding of flying in both LOMAC and other flight simulators have lead me to this conclusion. I don't recall ever flying/taxiing/starting up a plane with an uneven flap configuration!

Rocket selection for russian planes!
SoaringEagle74 replied to SoaringEagle74's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Another interesting concept is the mounted gunpods. I thought they were great but in retrospect the large seperation/dispersion of the rounds in space make them an ideal choice only for straffying large areas and large targets with light armor....worst choice for small pinpoint attacks! -
Rocket selection for russian planes!
SoaringEagle74 replied to SoaringEagle74's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for clarifying what each does. I found the UB-13 rockets to give the best trade-off in relation to lethality, weight, #available per load, dispersion, etc. Great all purpose rockets! Another interesting distinction is between the S-24 and S-25 rockets. I always have trouble hitting targets with the first...the second type, possibly armed with a proximity fuse, allows for a greater error in aiming accuracy and is almost as effective as the first. Generally speaking, I think its a rather bad idea to 'waste' so much gun powder on mobile ground units. Vihkr, B-8 and UB-13 are much smarter choices. -
You might be correct on aperture size as I am not any computer expert...it was just an educated guess on my part! I am going to keep the 128MB aperture though since I noticed a slight improvement in game and system performance in general. On a side note, its absolutely amazing how fast computer performance evolves! My laptop was considered above average several years ago and now is well below average. One thing that really pisses me off is that although they give you a 'ton of extras' (including a huge hard drive) on average systems they always go skimpy on RAM and low quality graphics cards.

What chapter of the LOMAC/FC manual are you referencing? Must be in later chapters because I can't find this stuff in chapter 2!

Very good points. The only part I disagree with you is that you should retract flaps entirely prior to taxing...this will aid you in keeping a relatively low throttle position because flaps add unneccessary drag. I remember in MSFS 2004 flaps were automatically up when the game was loaded. Just before takeoff engage combat flaps(half down).
-
Are you reffering to one flap fully down and the other at combat position as being normal? Sorry but I disagree! Yes the flaps are at rest due to lack of hydraulic pressure but why are they in different positions in relation to each other? Ok. Good points but I always introduce power before engine startup and the engines usually do NOT respond. What I might be guilty of is not keeping the throttle exactly at idle but my throttle module is not the most accurate piece of equipment anyway. I usually have to tap 'ctrl-e' several times before engine-fire up! Good point but again I say flaps should be in the same position with relation to each other...at least theoritically speaking. Very good points. I was not aware of these details...usually after a minute or two I would start taxing. Indeed that is correct and I learned that out the hard way! Another good point. I always wondered why the plane drifted during takeoff eventhough the rudders were neutralized.

Hi. I am still trying to learn/master the basics like strafing successfully, rocket attacks, bombing etc. I am mostly A2G oriented. I noticed about 8 rocket types to choose from and picking the right one is not always obvious. For example, what is the difference between B-8 and B-8CM? What is each most appropriate for? What is difference between S-24 and S-25 other than the fact that one is 1mm wider than the other? What is each most appropriate for? I found UB-13 rockets to be ideal for medium to heavy armored ground targets. S-24 and S-25 are ideal for large targets. B-8, B-8CM, UB-32 are good for small non-armored/lightely armored targets. I know some of the basics from reading the manual but details are what I am after...so if you are not sure no need to respond!:pilotfly:

Hi. I recently patched LOMAC/FC to 1.12b and noticed several problems. 1)Demo videos that played correctly with LOMAC/FC 1.1 are bugged after patching. Planes crash, fly low, etc! 2)SU-25T engines do not start with Ctrl-E during mission beginnings when aircraft is parked. I checked options/input/keyboard and the keys are mapped correctly. 3)SU-25T flaps are partially full down and partially combat. Specifically, the left wing flap is at full down and right wing flap is at combat position. This happens during mission beginnings when aircraft is still parked. 4)Fuel tanks while choosen during mission setup(payload section) are not visually displayed but are viewable after mission is loaded! I know this happens with SU-25T...not sure about other planes yet! How many people are having the same probems? Do these problems occur with other planes as well or only SU-25T?
-
Your hardware is above average and should not have difficulties. For example I am using a P4 3.0GHz laptop with 1GB ram and 128 MB ATI graphics card and play ok. One thing I did notice when I purchased the system was that my graphics card (aperture) was set to 64MB in the BIOS which struck me funny so I reset it to 128MB. You might wanna check that out on your system. Since your card is 256MB choose a 256MB aperture. Be sure to save any changes before exiting BIOS...assuming you make changes! If your not comfortable then leave things alone. What graphic settings have you choose for LOMAC? Your probably better off choosing low or at most medium...don't choose high or the game will become unplayable! I use Low and still get a low and choppy frame rate. Also, this might sound obvious but don't run any other applications while starting LOMAC. The game is a resource hog. You might even wanna turn off any antivirus and antispyware applications running in the background. A last suggestion is to let the game and missions load thouroughly before taking off. Don't rush anything. When missions load peek at the CPU led for a clue and judge accordingly. It is really an understatement when people say the game was meant for the future!

Has happened to me a few times also...I don't remember which server though. Try a different server as sometimes they maybe experiencing lag or hosting private games. If this is not the issue then make sure Windows SP2 and/or windows firewall is not blocking the game and/or HL. The first time you run HL you should get a windows message asking if it should continue blocking or grant access...choose the second! If you use a different firewall make sure it allows access to the game and HL. You might also wanna check HL FAQ! Good luck resolving the issue...probably nothing serious!

Virtual flying squadrons
SoaringEagle74 replied to SoaringEagle74's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I am pretty sure the people that created the SU-25T demos did not pass any checkride. One guy crashes into a building shortly after take off; the other one lands the plane in a crosswind and shortly after rolls over/tumbles into the grass:BOOM: The funniest one is the SU-25 video when after destroying dozens of targets the "me" pilot loses hydraulic fluid and crashes into a hill about 1-2 kms from the threshold! Two, one why did'nt you eject? Silence! Disclaimer: No disrespect intended to the authors...I just think they are funny! -
Virtual flying squadrons

Sounds like a ton of "fun"...but not for the faint hearted and/or inexperienced. As you described red flag it does appear to resemble the real red flag operations conducted by Nato forces at Nellis AFB, Nevada each year. As far as I know the 'top guns' gather there and practice all kinds of missions in regards to nato and recovered warsaw technology. They seperate into blue and red squads and practice different scenarios...see wikipedia for more info! If you ask me how I know this stuff...answer is very simple...I watch a lot of documentaries(and follow up research on internet) on history, military, high/low tech stuff, etc...big time military buff! 'Chasing ufos' was a half-joke innuendo based on Area 51 which is closely situated to Nellis AFB...assuming your familiar with the area and its "secrets". -
Thanks for the information. I will look into this when I get some time...and yeah that skin looks great!

Virtual flying squadrons
SoaringEagle74 replied to SoaringEagle74's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Absolutely nothing wrong with serious gaming...in fact I would like to join some squad eventually...eventhough I am more of a ground pounder then a tom cruise. From what I understand most of the servers are a2a. My biggest problem is dial up and lack of combat experience. Like any good swimmer its always a good idea to start swimming shallow and work your way deeper. I hope you understand my intentions...in fact I haven't even finished reading the manual yet.:smilewink: P.S:What red flag are you talkin about?...something resembling the red flag excercises conducted at Nellis AFB ??? LOL...I heard they chase ufos there! -
Hi. I would like to "shoot around a bit" on the internet without having to follow strict guidelines or download vast support software. I visited several VS but they all seem to take the game a bit too seriously. Does anybody know of any such casual enviroment? Also what bandwith do I need? Currently I am on dial up but I plan on upgrading to DSL as my current account is going to expire in a few months!
-
I think you are exaggerating a bit...has about 8-10 buttons on the stick and rudder. Sure its not terribly accurate but for 80 euros I am not complaining! I initially bought it for MSFS 2004 and now I use it for Lock-On.
-
Yeah. Like most modern SAM systems it does have this ability thats why its really a bad idea to do this solo. A dedicated SEAD flight would be much preferrable especially due to the fact that there are 3 radars to deal with. Still the basics are the same though...stay as low as possible and use the terain for cover until launch. Then turn around and use all countermeasures!

Lethality of GAU-8/A 30mm
SoaringEagle74 replied to 159th_Viper's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
16 minutes for 30 targets, of which a lot of the targets were heavily armored, is a really great performance...testimony to the A10 and your great piloting skills!!! I saw a documentary about the A10 on tv where it explained that the plane was built around the cannon as the central theme but still 1300+ rounds in one load is purily amazing! Foreign attack planes will never come close to this. -
Hi. I would really like desert and artic skins for my planes. How do we go about this? I am new to this board so please be patient with me. I have no idea were to look or how to create them. I remember playing an infantry game(I think Delta Force 3) long back where you had a choice of camoflauge.
-
I am no expert but the best way to defeat a sam system, especially the long range versions, is to get as low as possible and stay there until you launch your KH-58 anti-radiation missile. 50-100 meters AGL is nice assuming your comfortable flying low. When you get close(within 50 kms) go even lower! Also, try picking an obscure route(yeah zig zagging through cliffs and valleys) so you can ambush and get out before the SAM has time to react. Real air force pilots practice this all the time!
-
As always you normally get what you pay for! For example, I own a Thrustmaster Topgun Afterburner and although it performs reasonably well from every aspect I have noticed the rudder does not exactly return back to neutral...meaning plane tilts slightly in some direction requiring you to take additional corrective actions. I don't regret buying it but if I could spare 400-500 euros I would certainly go CH all the way!
