  1. IMO weapon of choice for tanks is rbk500 and vikhr missiles...anything less is a waste of time. For a large tank column I will go with a spaced out(2-3ms) rbk500 salvo of 2-4 bombs each pickle. Vikhr I use mostly at night when target identification is tough and/or during the daytime for small concentrations of tanks and artillery when bombing is not really necessary.
  2. Unless your flight controls are very accurate(and expensive;)) I recommend using a small dead zone for inputs...about 1 tick mark. With no dead zone the plane will be somewhat unsteady when your flying hands off. With a big dead zone there is a tendency to oversteer since the controls are not responsive. I also have some rudder and throttle irregullarities. Normally you get what you pay for.:)
  3. Seems strange. Have you installed the correct patch for your version of FC? I remember having similar problems selecting weapons in previous versions of LOMAC...for example, if I had 3 or more different weapon systems installed on my plane I could only select 2. Also, do you turn on the tv monitor before selecting Vikhr missiles? I am not sure if this is a prerequisite as I always turn on the monitor before choosing weapons out of habit.
  4. I assume you install more than 2 UB-13 rocket pods per flight? I tried splitting the salvo into two but usually they all come out at once. I could be wrong but I think 10 rockets fire per s-13 salvo. s-8 and s-32 shoot a bunch per salvo...I believe 4...but I would prefer 8 of 50mm type. s-8s are actually pretty good at 1.5km or less with apc's,ifv's,etc...not tanks though:smilewink: s-32s only good for cars, trucks, infantry, etc. s-24 and s-25 fire one per salvo? Is it possible to fire both? S-24 tough to aim but have better penetrating power against hardened targets than s-25's. S-25 is equipped with proximity fuse and explodes prior to impact. Lots of rocket variants available in real life but as far as I know all the warheads in LOMAC/FC are blast fragmentation. Only real bunker busters are betab bombs...suks cause I love them:D
  5. I know we can control bomb and gunpod salvos but what about rocket salvos? I tried manipulating the quantity released and time intervals but no luck!
  6. Bombs are different in that you can drop them effectively as high as you can fly...in contrast submunitions are lighter and thus disperse quickly. As for the book, I agree its not the bible but it does teach people the basics quite well!
  7. Yes indeed. I used to have them curved but switched to linear to make my life a bit easier with the bombers. Since then I noticed a huge improvement in maneuverability and over all performance...and not just with su-25t!
  8. Why are you confused with what I said? Su-25t is h e a v y... plain and simple! However that does not mean I dislike it...in fact it is very effective once you master it.
  9. 1km altitude for kmgu submunitions is way too high. Book says between 50-150 meters but slightly higher should be ok. I think reason for this is because the bomblets and/or mines that get dropped are relatively light and subject to wind drift. In other words if you drop them from a high altitude the dispersion factor will be so big you will likely miss most or all of the targets. As for the rbk cluster bombs I normally drop them between 1-2 kms altitude. Since the "bomb" or more correctly bomb canister falls and possibly strikes the ground in one piece(not sure of this) before "spreading around" it is much less susceptible to wind drift. Also, I agree that submunitions are better suited for in-line multiple targets although the same can be achieved by cluster bombing with a "spaced out" salvo.
  10. Don't know much about su-25utg but if it resembles su-25t or su-39 it would be a b.tch to land on a carrier. This bird is h e a v y and quite irresponsive to input controls especially when your used to traditional fighters or even the plain su-25 and a-10a.
  11. Ok, it seems nobody knows or nobody cares but I am going to bump the thread just in case it got left behind during the server updating procedure. In an effort to stimulate the thread I will speculate that KMGU munitions are more effective and accurate during bad weather when targeting from high altitude is difficult due to poor visibility, excessive wind which makes controlling plane tougher(and thus precise target line-up tougher)and drifting of bombs, fast and agile moving vechicles(again can be very tough to estimate release point from high altitude), etc. On the other hand dropping cluster bombs from high altitude is probably prefferable during good weather conditions so that you can avoid AAA and small arms fire. Any other ideas?
  12. Su-25T with tailhook? LOL. Isn't hard enough to land this "air truck" on a normal runway without trying for the absolute impossible?:music_whistling:
  13. Hi. I have been practicing dropping both and they seem to be equally effective against ground targets especially when targets are closely bunched together. I slightly prefer cluster bombs though because I can drop them from a higher altitude(300m+) in relation to submunitions dropped between 50-150m. Both are dropped from an airspeed of 500kms/h or greater. I am not very experienced so I would appreciate feedback into what each is most suitable for. Thanks!
  14. GGTharos, Maybe you are correct. I am not going to argue with you on any specifics because I am not an expert on any plane. I am only generalizing on industry practice as a whole! P.S. Calm down a bit...Why are you so angry when people disagree with you?
  15. I personally like old planes as much as the new ones however I don't think adding playable F-4's and F-5's to LOMAC is viable. The generation gap is a bit too big! What I would like however is to see a new game title(or series) that focuses on second(and some third generation) aircraft. I would also like to see Mig-21's, Mig-23's and Mig-27s included in that same game. Yeah probably wishfull thinking as most simmers prefer cutting edge stuff over old school.
  16. Almost all industrial manufacturing companies hype the performance specs of their product in every industry...this is common practice! What they state, although not necessarily incorrect, almost always assumes a best case scenario under ideal circumstances. Most street smart people(nevermind the experts) know not to take their word at face value because they know companies always stride to get the competitive edge over their respective competitors by using such gray area(but common and legal) tactics. I think we should end this arguement because indeed it is silly and proves nothing to anyone!;)
  17. Use the Shkval system for ground targets not for air targets. However you might be successful at parked or taxiing air targets on the ground. I agree with you Bobbero that is difficult to slew the TD on targets with the keyboard as I generally overshoot them. The best way is to lock the target designator/tv cursor within a reasonable distance in the hud and then make fine adjustments in the tv display. Initially keep the tv magnification low or medium until you can see targets clearly and then you can increase magnification and target size afterwards for more precision.
  18. I don't have much experience in A2A combat but from reading the manual there are a large number of variables to consider before judging missile effectiveness... 1)Target aspect ratio:Is target approaching head on or speeding ahead of you? A missile fired at a low aspect target needs to chase down the target therefore maximum launch range is greatly reduced. At the other extreme in which target is 'head on' the combined closure rate is very high and therefore you can launch much earlier. 2)Speed and altitude of launching platform: If the launching plane is firing missiles from high altitude and at a high speed then the maximum launch range is greatly increased! 3)Size of radar and/or IR target signature: The greater the signature the greater the chance of missile intercepting target. Eventhough most IR missiles are all aspect you are still better off launching from bogey six due to engine heat. The engines are much hotter and provide a much better thermal contrast for the IR seeker then the rest of plane does. As far as radar signature the larger the target the sooner your radar will paint it. Setting up your antenna azimuth, altitude and range correctly in relation to the target/s is extremely important as well as choosing the right frequency to use depending on the targets expected aspect ratio. 4)It is generally accepted that missiles launched from Rtr(or near this range) have a much better chance of intercepting than missiles launched from Rmax. As far as maddogging, or launching multiple missiles especially from long range is probably stupid and a waste of ordinance. Maybe launching one or two missiles at multiple targets early on can assist in putting the enemy into a defensive position but shooting everything at once is like putting all your eggs in one basket...if any fighters escape(and probably most will) what will you fight with in the ensueing dogfight? Quite frankly, I think some people don't :book: enough!
  19. Yeah, I am doubtful too. I think the US government put way too much effort into F117 to simply just abandon it after a decade. Off course it could simply be a ploy to confuse nations and keep hostile nations off guard or perhaps they are going to evolve the original model into something better. Actually, I don't think they even needed this stealth fighter to begin with since F-22's and F-18's were and are more then capable of filling its role but you know US 'overkill' mentality...keep industry and research going full speed!
  20. Could it be that you and Maverick downloaded the wrong patch? I almost fell into the same trap. There are several 1.12a/b patches available depending if you got an english or russian version and/or FC(cd version) or FC(download version). If you choose wrong one then needless to say the game will probably be unstable! Also, when playing choose low graphics and keep both friendly and enemy units to a minimum.
  21. Hi. I noticed that after installing the patch 1.12b in FC my plane (su-25) crashes(after taking damage or bad piloting) with the only possibility being recovery after pausing the mission...that means starting from the parking area again and wasting time! I remember in LOMAC the planes would hit the ground and bounce right back up. It seems that option is now gone although I have chosen immortality from the options menu. Even stranger is that when I choose fast battle option immortality is always not selected by default and I have to exit the menu and reenter to rectify the problem. Whats the verdict on this? Seems like a bug that has not been fixed!
  22. 159th Viper, Thanks for helping me fix the fuel tank issue...it worked and I appreciate it. As far as starting the su-25 and su-25t planes I managed to work out the problem by remapping the 'start both engines' function to a single key. Yeah <ctrl-e> apparently did not work as it should...very strange because it started all the other planes and even the two 'difficult ones':D on few occassions. I also had to remap other functions as a direct result but other than that no big deal. Boberro, Your right in that I overreacted in post 17 and I appologize for that. I guess confusion and frustration got the best of me. I assure you I am not a mean person...contrary to what some might think! As far as your plane yawing excessively you might want to change or play around with the rudder input a bit to see if you can improve the situation. The people that said use 'straight diagonal' for all joystick input are correct and I noticed a big improvement in performance!:smilewink: Everyone else(and especially to the '4 star generals' in this thread), Perhaps you guys can be a bit more patient with inexperienced people like myself and others?...just a friendly suggestion! We are not all at the same experience level. Frostie mentioned that my excessive quoting and opinions are irritating: Sorry if it offends you and others but I was only trying to expand the conversation...IMHO a one liner post simply stating 'thank you very much sir' makes for quite a boring session!!! As of now I consider this thread dead and will not respond to it anymore...including insults!
  23. No!!! Actually its VERY relevant because I spent over 4 hrs looking for this sh.t in the manual when all I had to do was search for it in the forumn...but thanks anyway...all is good! Any yeah I was arguing about the flaps and I am probably wrong. I apologize for that and I explained why I thought that way in previous post. By the way I thought options/input/keyboard was for mapping keys and joysticks...am I wrong there too?? Dude...forget it...thanks for your help!:music_whistling:
  24. Thanks for the compliment. I guess if someone doubts what you say then you call him/her an "asshat"? The only reason I doubted what you originally said in the second or third post was because none of the other planes had such a flap configuration and it seemed very odd to me. Sorry if I offended you! Thats great but I was looking in the manual as Frostie suggested! And above all I was quoting Frostie so I don't know where you just come out of the blue and start accussing me of not listening or not searching the forumn. Yeah I didn't search the forumn because people claimed it was in the manual...so give me a break pal! Normally <ctrl-e> is eject but I deleted that particular function and remapped the keys to start both engines(a long time ago I might add). I eject through a button on the throttle! Did you know that?...instead you jump to conclusions that I am stupid or something! Also, why does <ctrl-e> work with all other planes and not su-25/t??? If I had mapped the function wrong it would not start any plane. Good for you but that doesn't mean you should be arrogant and start calling people names just because they might disagree with you. And besides I don't profile people to know their credentials. On a side note can you please explain what AFM and SFM stand for as I am not familiar with these two acronyms? I never accussed you or anyone else of lying. Its just that some people like Frostie don't choose their words carefully and end up misleading everyone. Look at the previous posts if you don't believe me!
  25. HOJ mode is really a desperate move. The missile and/or radar only locks on the azimuth of the emmitting jammer with no regard to target altitude, speed, aspect ratio, distance, etc. You would be better off waiting for radar burn-through at a shorter distance to engage or launching a long range IR missile. Most IR missiles are all-aspect so no need to go on bandit six.
