Recommend a good headset for DCS please...
slicker55 replied to slicker55's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
... a quick update and a thank you to all who entered into this debate in the end decided to go with Sennheiser Game Zero and got a fair deal by buying direct from Sennheiser via their website The headset cost £159 (inc VAT and shipping) but they are currently including a FREE headset hanger (£30.99) and a FREE mouse pad - various sizes available (£22.99 - £30.99) Ordered on 5th Nov - delivered on 8th Nov Amazing sound and good mic - both plugged straight into the onboard audio on my Asus X99S motherboard. Initially, the mic didn't work properly but this was fixed by installing the latest Realtec HD audio drivers (available from Asus website) Just want to mention some may have read this headset has to be used with an amplifier but the product I have purchased is branded GAME Zero (50 Ohm) not to be confused with an earlier version branded G4ME Zero (150 Ohm) which I believe may require additional amplification. -
Now this is impressive... only last night, the gauges on my MiG21 started blacking out whilst flying the 'round the map' navigation mission... This is the first time I have tried this mission and I've never had any issues with the gauges before so I started to think it was a 'test' to see what remedial action I might attempt within the cockpit... battery not charging properly, generator fault etc... LOL... who said DCS is getting too immersive! Anyway, to see it was a bug/issue and you've fixed it so quick gets a huge thumbs up from me, a very happy customer!

[REPORTED] F10 Map Is Not Confined to GUI Coordinates in 1.5.4 OB

interesting set of results.. anyway, like you say, back on track... loving the F10 map and comms menus centred - big improvement but it would be even better if the size and colour of the fonts could also be customised... hard to see the small white text at times -
[REPORTED] F10 Map Is Not Confined to GUI Coordinates in 1.5.4 OB
slicker55 replied to Deezle's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
@klem, Bear with me, it's late (it's been a long day and it's just turned midnight here) I am also mindful that we are starting to stray from the original topic A few years ago, my monitor config was like yours when something interesting occurred to me which later sparked a lengthy debate. Here goes... It was argued that a T arrangement increases the workload of the GPU as the total draw area is significantly greater than when using a Linear arrangement. The counter-argument was that any part of the T arrangement which was not actually producing any image could not impact on GPU performance. However, another train of thought was the GPU still has to process those area's even though they are not physically there! In the end, the only real way to come to a satisfactory conclusion was to carry out tests which, in my case, produced a higher FPS when using the Linear arrangement and therefore, I've stuck with that since. Of course, (and at the risk of stating the obvious) references to Linear arrangement do not dictate the physical position of the fourth monitor which might still be positioned to form a T arrangement. Food for thought... The sums.... T arrangement: 5760 x 2160 = 12441600 pixels Linear arrangement: 7680 x 1080 = 8294400 pixels Result: The Linear arrangement reduces the draw area by 4147200 pixels (approx 30% less) -
@Rudel_chw Thank you for your help I have already downloaded Lino's Map You may interested to know there is a newer version (1.49): https://drive.google.com/file/d/16NI3o2jvQ5TlXtqXqgVp3IwyYorJ1eJ7/view?usp=sharing Ideally, would like the 'Standard' DCS RSBN information in list form
-
... right, so just to clarify... Only MiG21 and L39 utilise RSBN MiG21 RSBN's as per .lua's (Post #11 above) L39 utilises DCS (Standard) RSBN stations - where can I find these? No other aircraft in DCS utilise RSBN? Learning by the minute!
-
@Redglyph Thanks for the advice - `I will take a look at those and correct any discrepancies in the charts I'm making. I have been away for a while with other work and just trying to take up the slack which has inevitably occurred during my absence - age/memory LOL The MiG21 has a certain appeal tho me (not sure why) and despite owning an 'almost full' hangar, I haven't spent too much time learning other aircrafts. Out of interest, which of the available aircraft in DCS is also equipped with RSBN navigation equipment?

@Kelevra9987, Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question - really appreciated but someone else beat you to it. I'll include the link in case someone else needs the same advice: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=169153&goto=newpost Thanks guys!

[REPORTED] F10 Map Is Not Confined to GUI Coordinates in 1.5.4 OB
slicker55 replied to Deezle's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
@klem, I know we can always rely on some kind hearted person on this forum to spring to the rescue whenever needed but I just wanted to say a special thanks to you for providing a very swift reliable response to something which has been annoying the hell out of me for ages. I am running the 3 monitors in an Eyefinity configuration so as you say, effectively one large monitor (5760 x 1920) but I omitted to mention that I also have a 1920 x 1080 touch screen for Helios and custom monitor lua's for various aircraft to capture the viewports correctly. Therefore, when I tried changing the values to /3 (as per your second example) the GUI didn't take up pride of place on the centre monitor but I immediately realised that I needed to change these values to /4 Bingo! - well done mate... you have a very happy customer here! -
I am trying to prepare quick reference charts for all the DCS maps and have collated information from various sources which include RSBN channels I just thought the RSBN channels were generic for use with any aircraft equipped with RSBN navigation. My favourite aircraft at the moment is the MiG-21 so where can I find the correct MiG21/RSBN channels for each of the maps?

[REPORTED] F10 Map Is Not Confined to GUI Coordinates in 1.5.4 OB
slicker55 replied to Deezle's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
another 3-monitor user and two years on... have been away for a while and wonder if there has there been any developments on this important issue? it would be great if there was a way to confine the F10 map to the centre monitor only and have the ability to reposition things like the ATC menu and other dialogue text so they appear to the left and right of the centre monitor only -
I am commenting on this post as it is exactly what I was about to ask but in relation to my 3 monitor setup (5760 x 1080) Can anyone throw any light on this please?

@Weasel Thanks for telling me about these - no, not aware until you mentioned them but they look good for the money - available over here in the UK to pre-order on Amazon - due out 31/10/18 £89.99 Waiting to see what people have to say ... would have expected something like these to cost more? -

@finch, Thanks for your recommendation - just looked these up on amazon (mixed reviews) but other review sites appear to rate them quite highly and at a more realistic price too! -

@Drakoz, Many thanks for providing such a comprehensive insight into headsets - something I never envisaged when posing the original question but nevertheless, very interesting and informative. My search for a shortlist continues.... -

Guys, thanks for the comments and suggestions so far especially Drakoz - appreciated - please keep them coming! Agree I don't need to consider aviation grade - I'm only a real pilot whilst fast asleep... headset will only be used with the PC for DCS I have been reading a few random headset reviews but their findings are so varied with no clear winner so far. If I wanted to remain loyal to Turtle Beach, Elite Pro Tournament looks like a strong contender. They receive good reviews and I am quite taken in by the way their designers have considered people who (like myself) wear glasses. That said, there are so many other headsets to consider at various price points so more research needed before pulling the trigger! Anyone else also looking for a new headset may appreciate this article 'The Best PC Gaming Headsets 2018' I would love to hear which headset people would pick from that list and why? -
I am thinking of replacing my 'rather old' Turtle Beech X41 headset only because I'm growing tired of the intermittent (but very annoying) popping which seems to be caused by wifi interference. I am looking for a headset exclusively for DCS which not only sounds good but also has a descent quality microphone suitable for use with VAICOM voice recognition. Not sure whether to go 'wired' this time to avoid any similar interference issues? Maybe (years later) this is no longer an issue? No particular budget - out of touch with what something like this will cost but I do subscribe to the old saying that 'you get what you pay for'... that said, sometimes advances in technology don't always reflect higher prices... Welcoming suggestions and recommendations - I'm all ears!

After updating to 18.8.1 I was unable to configure my Eyefinity set up. A message stated 'your computer system is not compatible with Eyefinity.' I have since received the following advice from AMD: Perform clean uninstallation of the drivers using DDU Utility (Display Driver Uninstaller) by launching it in Safe mode. It will help you completely uninstall AMD graphics card drivers and packages from your system, without leaving leftovers behind. Then download and install the driver from below link and check the status. Please disconnect the network connection and disable antivirus before running the installer file. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-18-8-1 Good advice for future reference and may help other's to follow the correct procedure when updating their AMD graphics software

Which Headset For VAICOM?
slicker55 replied to slicker55's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Good news.. Last night I replaced the wiring to my Turtle Beech X41 RF headset, re-ran Windows 10 and VAICOM speech recognition training. As a result, the 'confidence level' is significantly improved and is now, on average, in the mid-high 90% range with only a few commands not getting recognised. Therefore, no longer any need to replace the X41's from that point of view. The audio quality of the speakers in the headphones always was, and still is, very impressive. However, X41's inherently suffer occasional crackling - an issue which is well documented and believed to be caused by radio interference. I will have to look into this issue further - any suggestions welcome! Other X41 owners may be interested to know... X41's were originally designed for the Xbox 360 and reports suggest they cannot be used on computers without the use of a special adapter lead. However, and just for the record, mine are simply connected to my computer using an optical cable (audio) and 1/8" - 1/4" jack cable (mic) -

thanks Jason... those are more in line with what I want to pay but I would push the envelope if the extra cost can be justified... ... waiting to drawer on the expanse of first-hand knowledge here rather than rely on sales hype -
Which Headset For VAICOM?

Thanks, I know that brand from old and would expect top notch performance but with a price tag to match... I hope I don't have to dig so deep into my wallet - lets see what less expensive alternatives are out there -
Which Headset For VAICOM?
slicker55 replied to slicker55's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I realised that... LOL but thought it best to clarify what I'm looking for... I have a triple monitor setup + touchscreen for Helios so just after a suitable headset to work reliably with VAICOM/Voice Attack I believe the microphone on some headsets are designed specially for voice recognition? My current headphones do work but the voice commands 'confidence rate' is below par I'm not particularly looking for wireless, like the ones I already have, because mine have proved to be problematic and the TrackIR (pro trackclip) is wired anyway! Hoping for some recommendations soon :helpsmilie: -
Which Headset For VAICOM?

Thanks for your suggestion but I'm referring to a set of 'headphones' with a 'microphone' built in.... my rather old Turtle Beech X41's don't seem to be working too good with handling speech recognition for VAICOM... -
Just purchased VAICOM PRO / VA Now looking for a decent headset designed for speech recognition with good sounding speakers... Based in the UK, suggestions please Thanks in advance
