Thanks guys! If you're anything like me the only thing you'll want to do when the download finishes is watch it, but please take 10 seconds to let me know here that the download was successful.
-
OK, fixed that too! Whew, what a Sunday! Please try again.
-
OK, the alternate download is ready. Go to the FSBT-01 Product Page, and instead of using the dropdown list at the bottom to select the resolution, simply click on the resolution description in the product description. You know, the one with the 720p and 1080p icons. 480p is unavailable at the moment, all other three are working. Please use this method until the main one is fixed.
-
Thanks Toxe!!! Glad you liked it!
-
Sorry zdXu, we are working on the problem and will have a solution in a few hours. I will post when it has been fixed.
-
Yeah, that sounds like the issue. Standby, files available soon :).
-
Thanks nemesis. We have run up against what appears to be some PHP issues. I am in the process of uploading all resolutions to a different place so they'll be available without an issue. If you experience a problem, let me know here, and I'll let everyone know when the files have been moved and the problem solved.

Hi Bucic, No, I am afraid not. Registration is quick and easy, and we don't spam :).

Thanks Igor! For those of you that have not downloaded the first lesson yet, Igor's awesome map is used in LET lessons. Thanks again for an amazing map Igor, with it everyone flying the lessons will have a much higher chance of finding home base :).

Right on! I used to teach a bit of this. Here's some good references for those of you having a hard time falling asleep ;): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Geodetic_System http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Map_projections -
This is it, the date has been set! FSBT-01 - Familiarization will be published May 9th!

Cool, so that would still work, 240 being a multiple of 60.
-
If not yet explained, I'd submit the idea that this is simply the effect of a governor on the helicopter doing a good job of maintaining the rotor RPM where it is. Then, couple that with the coincidence that the RPM happens to be a multiple of the camera refresh rate, so that every time the camera records a new frame, the rotor is in the same position. Some people refer to it popularly as the "wagon-wheel effect". In this case, we could have the camera recording at 60 frames per second, and the rotor RPM at 300 or 360. So for every frame recorded, each blade of the rotor would do five or six rotations, and be back to pretty much the same position by the time the camera records the next frame.

Fantastic news Igor, cheers and congratulations!!!!! -
Can't believe it took me so long to find this!

Welcome to the team of crazy people we all are Zenra, glad to have you. Lots of reading ahead for you, as most problems have been found and either reported or solved here in this very forum, it's a great tool for those "I wonder what..." questions. -
Hi Thalenbergen, to start with we are only going to have PayPal as an option. We hope to add more options in the future.

It is my genuine pleasure to announce that Ed Macy, a former British Army Apache pilot with combat experience, will be collaborating with Leading Edge Training. Here's the press release. Please join me in welcoming Ed, as I am sure that just like me, you are looking forward to his contributions. Stay tuned for the first lesson, FSBT-01 - Familiarization.
-
Hi Focha, Yes, I am very familiar with those. As a matter of fact, in the same graph you mention you can obtain the speed for best endurance. That is if the graph is required+available power versus speed.
-
Nice one Bucic!!!! Thanks!
-
Interesting info Alpha, thanks for that.
-
You are right, my explanation is in regards to Vy, not Vx.
-
Technically that's not possible, since the pure definition of Vx is altitude gain over horizontal distance, per unit time. If you are not moving forward, there is no horizontal distance, so the denominator of that equation goes to zero. Anything divided by zero is inifinity, so in this case you'd find that Vx is infinity. Practically, you use Vx when needing to clear an obstacle, so for example, you are on a mission, trying to stay as low as possible, but as you approach a steep mountain range you will have to climb. You can delay your climb by planning to use Vx, which will give you the biggest rise over the smallest distance to the mountain. You will find that Vx will require some forward speed, as the overall lift the rotor is capable of is considerably bigger with that forward speed. This phenomenon is called Translational Lift, you can find lots about it online, but here's the wiki on it. <plug time on>Leading Edge Training will have an entire lesson dedicated to helicopter aerodynamics :)</plug time on>
-
Not really. Some forward speed actually allows the rotor to produce more lift than no forward speed. The exact speed varies a bit between helicopters but it will be around 110 km/h.

Hi Kes, not sure you saw this. I am working as fast as I can. As this is the first lesson, some one-time things got in the way, as well as a couple of contracts that I hope to be able to discuss very soon. I think it will be a nice surprise for everyone :).
