  1. My DSC lot 20 US NAVY F/A-18C has a finnish livery on it. I operate it from nimitz class carrier in caucasus where i navigate using TACAN beacons. Relax a bit. There always needs to be the most accurate version possible, but under SPECIAL tabs there could easily be an option for another avionics version for Hornet that would be very realistic too adding so much to gameplay. I understand if its too much WORK to do though. But not that it's not realistic.
  2. Interesting stuff Frederf, thanks
  3. Unless they just implement the avionics that are in australian and finnish hornets for example as talked earlier on this thread....
  4. What is the purpose for setting the bomb parameters like fuze type, fall type etc? Why the flight computer cannot put some defaults in, like mechanical fuze since it knows the type of the bomb? What is the purpose of selecting the fuze, even if it is off the bomb detonates...?
  5. I'm gonna use this topic... Are there any plans for civilian ILS and VOR radial navigation possibility in future? Tbh, when i bought the Hornet i assumed that now i can finally do IFR flights with western avionics, your basic ILS and VOR systems and even NDB, but it seems not to be the case.... I only have a Caucasus map, but would NTTR allow me to do some sort of military land-based ILS landings? USA is full of VORTAC's so en route navigation would not cause any problems... Can somebody enlighten me why US hornet cannot do civilian ILS? My assumption is that in homeland they have TACAN's carriers and A/A refuelers have TACAN, and in hostile enviroment they would probably use INS/GPS rather than hostile countries land based nav aids... That said, it would probably be nice to have the chance to fly ILS / VOR approach in a friendly NATO country that has no TACAN beacons etc..? BTW, would there actually be TACAN beacons in Georgia in real life like we have in DCS?
  6. Okay sorry for the delay, here is the track file. I also think i've found the cause: It might be due to me touching the stby ADI nose-calibration thing while uncaging it. But i suspect that is a bug not a feature? adiinop.trk
  7. Here's a recent video i found from YouTube of a finnish FA18 doing aerobatics: My initial reaction was that in DCS Hornet i might be exceeding 250kn with a shallow afterburner take off like that, atleast for the gear doors... But just barely.. then i noticed, that the AB probably goes to full burner after the gears are up! This is exactly what you need to do in DCS i believe, so seems that the acceleration is probably very spot on in DCS already! Educated guesses of the initial climb angle on take off anyone...? EDIT: Btw notice the uncommon very soft, flared landing with aerobraking.
  8. Sometimes, when i start the engines, the DDI ADI is stuck. Most of the time it works, but every now and then it is stuck or caged. The stand-by ADI is uncaged always, if that has anything to do with anything. Can't figure why the DDI ADI is caged/stuck, another than a bug...? My startup procedure is pretty consistent...
  9. I am using the saitek throttle quadrant and was wondering that by default if i retard completely in the air am i on ground idle or flight idle? If on flight idle will it go to ground automatically when i am on the ground?
  10. I would still hope some sort of option for AB indication, sound would be best, in sims, you can sometimes replace physical feeling with exxagerated sounds. i have no detent, i don't like the detent cycle button. My dream is an option for different engine sound when AB on (similar to mig-21) optional in special tab.
  11. So i assume that this plane has counter-clockwise rotating engine, so the primary rudder is left rather than right. Am i correct? Are there any options planned for western style engine? (if there are such in real life). I have no particular interest in Yak-52, however i am interested in tricycle configured piston engine trainer for DCS, but, while this might sound silly, i really don't like to screw up my muscle memory with counter-rotating engine...
  12. Yes absolutely, terribly sorry. For the whole tutorial my mind set was ADF = NDB and did not pay much attention wanted to get to the TACAN part. Sorry .
  13. Yeah, i have, did i miss something? :)
  14. Rather than just googling my butt off i am looking answer from here... So, can the Hornet do a VOR navigation, ie. can i manually enter the frequency for a any given VOR station, or am i limited to TACAN beacons? I am a newbie with TACAN, if tacan has X, like 67X, does it mean that i'll use X presets, and 16Y would mean Y, so there are no other letters than X or Y in TACAN? Thanks !
  15. I wish there was some sort of sound for this, so that it would change a bit louder or something. It could be disabled from the special -tab for realism or something. Anyway, as a workaround, the fuelflow increases pretty much when AB is on and vice versa, so that's a good indication for now... I wonder, in some older planes (like Mig-21) they kept record how many total hours the engine had AB on, because it meant earlier maintenance or something, i think Hornet is not restricted like that because there is no indicator for AB in the cockpit?
  16. DDI bug when BIT / FCS pages open When the other DDI has BIT failures page open and the other has FCS page open the lower portion of the FCS screen shows half of the other page's last row's content on the bottom. Happens always and no matter is FCS page on the left or right DDI. Screenshot shows better:
  17. I hope it is a bug =) And it is pretty annoying. The another thing i don't like is i have no clear indication when the afterburners are on, i cannot hear any sound change. Don't know how it is in real life, but i am pretty sure IRL pilot knows when AB is on and when not, without watching instruments. Being it sound or a physical feeling....
  18. I was watching a 2009 -filmed finnish documentary series about Hornet pilots and in few (aerial combat training) situations the HUD had something censored below altimeter, on the right-center side on the HUD. Made me wonder, what was censored, and why, and how classified are the C-hornets and their sensors these days (and were in 2009 - almost decade ago).
  19. Just wanted to make sure the carriers work on every terrain (that has oceans obviously)
  20. Will it be possible to do carrier ops in Caucasus map? I mainly own eastern planes and never bought the Nevada map, and i am not that interested in Persian gulf right now... Also, will there be ever any Hornet content for Nevada map? Complex aircraft aren't actually my passion but the Hornet is so tempting... Is there any point flying it (atleast initially) only on Caucasus region? Also, as a little bonus question, is it too complex for basic controllers, i have a 3-axis quadrant, but not proper HOTAS system. (the most complex plane i own is the Mig-21 and it is on the edge of comfort control-wise, that said, i am happy to just fly and exploring the systems (ie using weapons in easy situations) Thanks.
  21. Hey thanks for your answer. Yeah been doing touch and goes (properly for the first time ever in DCS with this module!) with little higher speeds and now i get the hang of it i think. I took some video too to analyze the touchdown attitude etc from outside, thought i share it: (the audio is compressed a lot for some reason and the camera got crazy in the first touchdown sry) Don't mind the pattern, and i've fast forwarded them I had a quite light plane hence the speeds are tad slower (the IAS on the info bar is CAS in my mind and a tad different from plane ASI). What'd ya think? I think the first one was the best, then i tend to flare too high... too bad the camera went crazy on the first one.
  22. One more question.. it's about landing... (then i'll shut up.. maybe:D) This plane is probably the most conventional GA-like airplane i have in DCS (and believe me, it's one of the reasons i love it), so i seem to land it like one. The manual states 180kmh (little less than 100 knot) touchdown speed. I noticed that i am constantly landing quite a bit slower actually, because i am trying to land as slow as practically sensible, like i would your ordinary Cessna or Piper. So i think i should land faster, coming in faster and not over flare the plane. (manual says something about parachuting but that is a new term for me in landings). If so, what is the reason? i noticed already that the plane seems to come little unstable at flare nearing stall speeds. Is this one reason? Tailstrike? Too high nose gear drop? I have owned various DCS modules since 2012 but the Albatros is the first one i truly take seriously - like the GA planes i have in FSX, so i might been a tad autistic ;)
  23. I'd like to see an option for non-combat flights in fast mission builder. Maybe just ja tick box with text "aerobatic flight" or "non-combat flight" or diffuculty pop-down window had a "none" or something option, what ever, so i that i would not need to first go "advanced" and then select "none" to everything etc. Any chance?
  24. Hmm okay, thanks for the reply. I just kind of wish the "feel" would be more realistic in DCS with a regular stick, if in real life the pilot nearly do not have to do anything but go with the flow so to speak when applying ldg flaps..? if i understood correctly
  25. The IAS value on the info bar (lctrl-y) is showing somewhat different values on (it seems) most aircrafts than the actual IAS. For example, when Mig-21 IAS indicator says exactly 200kmh the IAS on the info bar says 104 knots (193km/h). And before you say it! Yes, i mean IAS not TS (that can also been on info bar). The only explanation might be that it's actually CAS on the info bar rather than IAS? if so, i think the abbrevation should be changed from IAS to CAS...? I'd also like to have an option to see the actual IAS with selectable unit, kmh, knot or mph.
