Hi. One thing on my mind... I know that large caliber AA guns, such as the FlaK 88 used fuse on the ammunition in order to explode at the right moment. But AFAIK smaller caliber cannons, like ZSU 23mm, also explodes its ammo while in the air; i remember seeing this in real life, and some youtube videos also shows me that. Now, how does the ZSU ammunition fuse the explosion? It's a relatively small ammo so there probably is not much technology in it. Is the sole purpose for explosion to protect people etc on the ground from falling ammunition? Thanks

Agreed. I bought the Mig-21 because it is old-school rather analog plane. But due to F-15 and Su27 which i bought after the Mig and instantly fell in love with them, i know CONSIDER of buying hc model of the Hornet. Without experiencing the simplified F15 i would not. So i think simpler models do support DCS series as a diving board to more complex planes, and if not, what's wrong for me to support your Platform of Choice in simming by buying F15 or Su27 style planes rather than not buying anything at all? I understand though that some people might fear that DCS would become an arcade game or atleast it would have a reputation of an arcade game due to simpler planes. But i don't think this as a threat.

Hello. I was wondering is there any kind of future plans regarding Simple System Modeling. I have learnt the Mig-21 which is great but pretty sure it will be the only more complex plane i will ever learn througly. When i discovered that the F15 and Su27 have proper flight modeling, i instantly bought them and fell in love. They are genius combination of realistic and fun flying completed with very easy to learn yet complex and believeable enough avionics. I really REALLY hope that in the future we would see more planes like these, a hornet maybe? :)

I have owned Saitek Combat Pedals for 1.5 years now and they still work as new. They are pretty pricey, but they were the only ones i was interested in. They are very comfortable and ergonomic to use, the action is smooth (but it gets dirty easily which makes it unsmooth for fine adjustments). The weakest link are the toe brakes, they are accurate but they have very light feel combined with short-ish travel. They do their job though.

Saitek Throttle Quadrant any good?
Alfredson007 replied to Nooch's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I bought mine few months back, but i mainly use it in FSX, and only with mustang in DCS, because with prop planes i fly with my left hand and the quadrant is on my right side. But the DCS mustang has very sensitive throttle on low rpms, where precision is important. It's light to use, and very very smooth with long enough trajectory . Most of the time the position indicator shows VERY stable readings (on windows's usb controller setup for example), but there are positions where little "noise" is present. This has not been any problem to me in real life. If you only need one axis, the package includes large throttle unit that binds all the 3 levers to one, which makes it bit less lighter to use (more feel) and then if one of your axis is starting to fail you have 2 axis left to choose from. The bottom line is it is cheap. But it's accurate, it doesn't feel premium or sturdy, but so far its been very good. Although, if i'd fly exclusively jets, i would consider another options too. -
Coffin Corner, is it there?

Gonna test this today! -
Coffin Corner, is it there?
Alfredson007 replied to Alfredson007's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
okay thx ... but in passenger planes the IAS Vmo comes down, but the clean config stall IAS speed remains the same, hence the smallish margin in the IAS indicator like in this picture: http://m2.i.pbase.com/g3/23/582523/2/124628692.bNVc3wKR.jpg -
I've understood that when flyin' high and fast coffin corner comes into equation, which means that you go a bit too slow, you'll stall, you go bit too fast, you (mach) stall. Or so i've understood. The higher and faster, the more significant. The U2 spyplane had only 10 knot window to fly in. Now when i reduce the throttle at very high altitudes, the plane stalls pretty much at same speed (IAS) it would on sea level. This is true not only in DCS but also in FSX's higher end fighter planes models i've tried. But i've heard that PMDG passenger planes do model coffin corner. So, in these simulations generally, is the coffin corner there or not? I just like to know...

Don't know, but it feels pretty boring now. It is indeed almost impossible to G-stall, and landing is succesful every single time. Well, maybe the landing gear was a tad too fragile before... but still..

Okay i've learned the AA IR and SAR missiles, now i'd love to do some 1 vs 1 fighting with missiles, however.... i have IR missiles, the enemy has ones too, and radar missiles, but they suck. They do few maneuvers, but even if they are "excellent", they are pretty easy to shoot down with IR missiles.... is there something i am doing wrong in mission editor perhaps? Even SU-33 armed to the teeth was very passive... edit: for some reason 2v2 situation is much more intense... AI is now firing missiles at me. Actually, AI (same mig21, same r60m missiles) can lock onto me while we are flying head on each other, i cannot lock, AI can...?

Okay been learning the MiG's weapon system and got many hits already :smartass: I am just confused how inconsistently the radar works, sometimes the radar won't even pick up any targets eventhough they are within miles in front of me. Sometimes if i put it in standby mode and put it back on the targets re-appear. Is this a bug or user error? Is there differences how this old radar sees, or doesnt see, modern helicopters for example? Thanks.

That profile seems to be pretty good! i slightly tuned it and tried, wow my hands are still shaking! But there still is a bit unsmooth effect especially when i try to look first behind me then scan the sky up towards front.... btw.... do you use headmovement in g forces -setting on or off? i had it on now, but i just took it off for next test.
-
In the camera view, it seems to work fine. the track clip. Occasionally, a beer can :music_whistling: makes a brief red dot but it seems to filter it out. But especially when i use higher yaw angles, and, in my mind, the head is still, the trackir slowly moves back towards center.. for a while. Ok! No deadzones, no pausing frequently?
-
I am only using the trackclip reflector thingie... is the pro clip *much* better?
-
Yeah thanks. i've actually watched that video. and many others. I am pretty much aware what every slider and setting do in trackir, but i'd like to know how people actually use it in terms of sensivity and deadzone and turn progression... I've tried fast, linear, slow, progressive, with and without deadzone, but neither feels perfect ... i thinki should just use one and get used to it... but i'd like to hear what are your settings (i don't need profiles, just tell me are you using pause/deadzone and roughly how sensitive are your movements).... thanks!
-
Hi. Two days ago i got my trackir, tried to adjust it for FSX and DCS, for FSX it seems much harder... but not yet there in DCS either... I'd like some information how you use it in DCS.. Do you have strong curvatures in yaw/pitch? Will it be easier to adapt on steady-ish curvature with high-ish sensivity? Somehow i couldn't imagine using my mouse if the acceleration was progressive on it. Will that apply with trackir? How about deadzones? You use it? You needed to use it at first? How about pause? Over all sensivity, how much (approx) you turn your head for full movements?

Haha. Omg. It just watched my own track from the OUTSIDE which shows feet. So the altimeters short hand is only used for the inner circle that shows full kilometers? I have used it as conventional altimeter, so if the short hand was between 4 and 5 i thought i was in 4500 meters ... :-) Okay, sorry. Feeling a bit stupid... :) Edit: Yeah, i've read the manual (here and there) and i just skipped the altimeter section by "yeah, it's regular altimeter, but showing meters instead of feet Gosh... EDIT2: I must say. This module is so freaking cool. I also have the Sabre F86 which is a pussycat compared to this... everything's familiar... but here... all new. Overwhelmingly steep learning curve for me but i like it. Must digest it slowly. I might add that i was expecting darker sky when i am in 10km+ altitude, that also distracted me a bit... Thanks for all though :)

Hi, thanks for your answer. I must say i am very familiar what TAS/IAS etc is. I have flown small civ aircrafts in FSX for few thousand ours... i am new to DCS and jets, especially supersonic. In my track,i do not try to keep constant IAS nor TAS, i am trying to climb in 30 degreeish angle as the one who posted before me that i quoted. I've tried to use constant TAS, same result. I've tried to fly by feel, same result. It goes well, all the sudden the plane feels as it has lost most of its power or something.
-
I tried this. Initially it went well, i did climb 100+ meters per second, for 3 kilometers or so, but then soon after things start to go wrong, i am losing speed, i am forced to lower the nose, i am already too slow... the climb rate starts rapidly to go down.... Here's the .TRK file. Now, in this i tried the method mentioned by the quoted fella, but the end result is very similar even if itry to keep 870 TAS all the way. I am doing something wrong, or my plane is not well configured? climbtrk.trk

It's a little thing but i have hard time to adjust to it... for some reason the wind in DCS is marked "where it is going" rather than more standard "where does the wind come"... ie. if wind is coming from 220, i know i should use runway 22 .... but in DCS it would say 040.... Is this how it will be? Any reasons why? EDIT: Btw, i'd love an option where i could quick-adjust wind alone for a quick mission in advanced menu rather than going to mission editor
-
Thanks for your answers! I tried again, i am doing my best to keep the suggested IAS/TAS speeds, i get them close enough... how ever.... After 3 minutes, i was at 4 kilometers according to the altimeter, and the vertical speed averaged about... 40+ meters per second or so, which is 8000 feet per minute x 3 = so i should be at... 6-8 kilometers... how ever my altimeter showed very different readings... and at one point the altimeter actually went towards down for a 200 meters then started to go up again? Yes i am absolutely positivite which is altimeter gauge =) Somehow, i have a feeling that the altimeter is not giving me a correct reading perhaps? It seems ok on the runway though.. EDIT: The plane was again on its default settings when on runway in the beginning. The engine rpm gives me 100% or a bit more (yellow area)

I am taking my first steps with the MiG, and my goal is first to know how to fly the plane and land well (landing seems quite a challenge actually which is nice).. But i can't figure out what am i doing wrong, i have afterburner on, i am trying to get up as fast as possible, but it takes forever, i struggle even between 30-40m/s constant v/s (way less than 10000 feet per minute) ... now according to Wikipedia the Mig21 should climb to 10km in less than 3 minutes... in 3 minutes i am maybe in 3-4 kilometers if even there and then it gets harder to climb... my nose cone is on automatic, and yes, the landing gear is up and flaps :) And this is on instant mission from runway. (no missiles) Huge thanks.

Hello. First post here. I bought the MiG21, "modern" fighters are very new thing for me, and must say that i was a bit dissapointed with the tutorial that's included with this aircraft... Is there any chance of getting similar more detailed, spoken tutorial as the DCS original planes have like the Mustang?
