  1. I think we'd better forget about BVR and advanced Air to Ground munitions with this one. Aim-9, cannons, unguided air to ground and that's it. It's supposed to have a nice little HUD and gunsight, so cannons and rockets may be easier to use than in the Mig-21.
  2. Look for the road leading to the Roki Tunnel, connecting Georgia with Russia. From Gori (Georgia) go north, through Tskhinvali, then right at Didi Gupta. This was the historical invasion route in the 2008 Russo-Georgian war.
  3. Indeed, that's one big drawback of the exquisite level of detail in these modules, no module is possible without data and licenses. However, when we get lucky and end up with a matching pair, I think most people enjoy it better. Take the Sabre and Mig-15, such duels are the best for MP. I'm delighted about the Mig-21Bis (my favorite module so far) getting a friend to play with. The opposite is true, for example, with the upcoming Typhoon. We all know it's going to be the most lethal fighter in DCS for a long time, without anything else coming close. Great to have it, i'll fly the wings off it when it's available, but knowing the only worthy opponent it's going to get is itself makes it somewhat less enjoyable for me.
  4. I love how Belsimtek clearly states this is Leatherneck's Mig-21Bis nemesis. Wouldn't it be great if both studios kept releasing rivals for the other's modules?
  5. +1, i've always liked the Forger, ever since i saw it on the F-19 Stealth Fighter recognition guide. I know it's a crappy airplane, so what? I like challenges, and it's a unique and challenging aircraft, i'd certainly buy it. To be honest i'd buy anything from LNS, if only for the theatre they want to include with each new module.
  6. You need to set PRF for expected target aspect. High PRF if the bandits are coming head on, Medium for targets trying to run away or perpendicular to you, Interleaved for unknown aspect or medium/close range. You also need to set the expected target range and elevation correctly. If unknown, i usually set range to 50 and start scanning, your RWR should tell you if the target is above you or below. But anyway, the AI is cheating. In the Su-33 campaign, the F-14s shoot phoenixes at you from 100+ kms away, no launch warning in the RWR, but your wingmen immediately detect the launch and warn you. The enemy will also detect you and any missiles you launch immediately (even IR guided shots from below), and shoot you almost instantly as soon as you're within range.
  7. FIFA16 crashes to desktop on startup if i leave the HOTAS Warthog plugged in, and the Saitek pedals will cause the menus to cycle endlessly. It drove me crazy until I figured it out.
  8. You ain't outclimbing a F-15C, nor Su-27, all aircraft are having excessive high altitude performance, and the engines don't even flame out in the FC3 jets. Check this out, 36875 meters, engines still running full AB, and you still have some control authority up there.
  9. What do you mean, so what? So this is a simulator, can the real aircraft do it? If it can't, then neither should we ingame. And by the way, i posted this question in the general Mig-21Bis forum, one of the mods chose to move it in here afterwards. IMHO there are some issues with high altitude flight, not in the Mig, but in the game engine itself. Su-25s are flying nice and level above their service ceiling, and Su-27s are "stupid rocket climbing to death", as you put it, over 34 Kms high, while retaining some control authority and with the engines still running in full afterburner. If you think that's normal behavior you're entitled to your opinion, but i beg to disagree.
  10. What about payload, can I drive with a tree trunk coming out of the tail lights? Maybe a horse in the back seat?
  11. Thanks a lot, i'll try this as soon as I can! You're right, I didn't remember that one from The Right Stuff, that's the record Chuck Yeager was trying to break when he crashed the NF-104. But my point is, that must have been a specially modified aircraft for the altitude record. Should a normal, clean Mig-21Bis, with 30% fuel and all it's combat equipment onboard, be able to reach 29,400 m? Edit: It seems the Ye-66A was indeed a highly modified airframe, with increased fuel capacity, more powerful engine, and a rocket booster, among other modifications.
  12. I've noticed increased high altitude performance in the Mig-21Bis too, it may me related. I was able to zoom climb to 29Km, very cool and magnificent view but i doubt the mig should be able to do that. However i've been unable to get the flanker past 27km, how on earth did you manage 34km?
  13. Sorry for bringing this old thread up, but i recommend everyone to try this mission with 1.5. Improved performance, improved carnage, best laughs i had all day!
  14. Ok this is weird, did another test, same result, got to 29000 meters but didn't get my nose down and entered a nasty spin. Recovered in time, got the engine started, all nice and dandy. I recorded this with Shadowplay: However when I replay the track (attached), I crash into a mountain just after restarting the engine. Looks like there are still some issues with track playback. Mig-21Bis Zoom Climb and flat spin.trk
  15. Yesterday I was doing some zoom climbs, sightseeing in the new engine, and was astonished by the Mig-21Bis performance. I was able to get past 29 Km altitude, please see screenshots. What i did was, get to 15 Km, accelerate to Mach 2.0, pull the stick smoothly until 60 degrees climb, emergency AB on. Should it be able to do that? I don't have any real world data on Mig-21Bis zoom climb performance, but this seems excessive to me, as i'm unable to match this performance with a clean, low fuel Su-27. I forgot to save a track, I'll do more tests and upload the track whenever possible.
  16. Yes it works! Thank you so much jweisner!
  17. 2 more tracks. Shooting down 2 R-27ETs with R-73 in longitudinal mode, and locking up R-73s with HMD, and shooting missiles at them. Taking down enemy AAMs.trk Taking down enemy AAMs 2.trk
  18. While playing the SP Mission Su-27 Base Defence, i noticed in my MFD some contacts datalinked by the AWACS, with insanely long velocity vectors. Those must be incoming AAMs. Please see attached track. I've also noticed you are now able to lock AAMs with Close Air Combat modes, that's not shown in the track. I will try to make one. Awacs Datalink showing inbound AAMs.trk
  19. I've seen the same in SP mission Su-27 Base Defense. 2 AI Su-27's taking off successfully from the grass at Krymsk. Please see attached track. Edit: I've also been able to take off from grass, though i broke my front gear. See the second track. Su-27 Take off on grass.trk Su-27 Take off on grass 2.trk
  20. It was Microprose's F-19 Steath fighter for me. Then F-117, Gunship 2000, F-15 Strike Eagle II, Comanche Maximum Overkill, Harrier Jump Jet, Jane's Fighter Anthology... DID's EF2000 is still my all time favorite, that dynamic campaign in the beautiful Scandinavian terrain...
  21. Ixvanwyk, that's usually related to Visual C++ Redistributable. Have you tried reinstalling these? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784
  22. Confirmed, happens in Win10 too. I haven't seen any other games or full screen apps doing this, had to set scaling back to 100%.
  23. A similar problem happens in Windows 10 when you have upscaling enabled in Windows display settings ("change the size of text, apps, and other items" slider). This setting affects DCS too, so with 125% upscaling i was unable to see the OK button in DCS options.
  24. Same here, also happens with Mig-29S. Afterburner indicator lights aren't working either.
