I used to have the 1997 Fighters Anthology compilation in my Pentium 150 Mhz. The cheesy videos were a great touch, but what I really miss right now is the sheer amount of content that game had. A ton of campaigns and missions in theatres like the Persian Gulf, Baltic Sea, English Channel, Kuril Islands, Falklands, Cuba, Vietnam, Greece, Israel, Crimea... The amount of flyable aircraft and weapons selection were also staggering, and it had a great mission editor. Not a realistic sim, but boy it was fun, I played it for many years, even got into editing the database, adding new aircraft and weapons and tweaking existing ones. Hopefuly DCS will someday be able to offer something approaching the variety the Jane's series had. Of course with the DCS level modules and scenarios being as complex and painstakingly detailed as they are, I think I'll probably die of old age before we get 100+ modules and 20 theatres...

Coolness factor aside, using expendable stealthy drones must be way cheaper, also easier to deny if something goes wrong over hostile territory. Too bad, the SR-71 is one of the most amazing airplanes ever built.

Yes, the Foxhound has somewhat lower performance than the Foxbat, but more than makes up for it thanks to the powerful Zaslon PESA radar and R-33 missiles, comparable in range and performance to the AIM-54 Phoenix.

Does the R-77 require a specific radar to support it?
lokodehortaleza replied to ruddy122's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
You don't need to change the radar, you can just add R-77 to the Su-27 or Su-33 loadouts and it'll work just fine. -
I didn't know that, thanks for the info!

The foxfire radar on the Mig-25 had a limited look down capability, good luck detecting (let alone tracking and killing) something that's 20k ft below you. Also have in mind, the Acrid is a huge missile, biggest AAM ever produced. It was designed for taking down supersonic bombers like the Hustler and Valkyrie. I don't think it'll be effective against maneuverable fighters. The Mig-25 is nice because of it's high performance, but in DCS it would be quite limited. I'd rather have a Mig-23 or Mig-31.

4 full DCS level western fighters announced in development, not a single russian announced, that's what i meant :smilewink:

I have the utmost respect for Leatherneck and i'm sure whatever they do finally release will be worth every penny, but I do hope they release something with a krasnaya zvezda painted on it. There are several NATO modules already in development, i want more russians!

Must have crashed the Mig nearly a hundred times, literally. And not only landing accidents, also random departures, flat spins, redouts, engine flameouts, eating SAMs and AAA while trying to figure out that horrible RWR... I've been into flight sims since the early 90's, but stopped playing after LOMAC, and when I finally bought some decent hardware and came back to DCS, the PFMs were a complete shock. I am complete noob, this is a whole new level compared to my old sims. I've had no problem adjusting to clickable cockpits and complex systems management, but just trying to dogfight in the Su-27 or Mig was a painful experience at first. I must've crashed at least 5 times just trying do this:

PRE-PURCHASE DCS: L-39 ALBATROS Discussion Thread
lokodehortaleza replied to terence44's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Correct. I started playing DCS on Steam too, but you have to wait more for releases and updates, can't benefit from ED sales and promotions, and i don't think ED gets as much money when purchasing from Steam. I validated my Steam purchased keys in the ED website, downloaded DCS standalone and never looked back. -
Surely flying the black jet in historic Desert Storm or Allied Force style, against outdated enemies, with complete allied air superiority, and aborting mission in case of pop up threats wouldn't be very exciting. But a late 80's Cold War gone hot scenario, against look down capable interceptors with AWACS support, SA-10, SA-15, SA-19... That i'd like to try!

Dat signature...

When we finally get DCS level modern fighters, like the Tomcat, Hornet and Typhoon, we'll see. The hardcore crowd will surely flock to the DCS modules when available, but I guess many guys will keep flying the FC3 aircraft. ED wouldn't bother upgrading the Mig-29 and Su-33 if there wasn't a market. The value you get for your money, pack of 6 aircraft for less money than a single hardcore module, is hard to beat, and you don't need to study a 700 page manual, which is a big plus for the casual player. Many people just want to hop into the cockpit, take off and blow some stuff up without worrying about complicated systems management.

I got the pole position  It sure would be nice though, F-19 Stealth fighter was my first flight sim, and i played a lot of F-117 too when that came out. I haven't flown the black jet since then, the childhood memories would be great! I don't think there have been any other serious Nighthawk sims since then, almost 25 years ago...

During the livestream a few minutes ago, when Wags switched from Su-27 to F-15, there were several mission files for livestreams. I didn't catch all of them, but i'm damn sure i saw a F-117 Stream mission file. Did anyone else see it? Was Wags trolling us all? :music_whistling:

Feedback and General Questions for Video Updates
lokodehortaleza replied to Groove's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
It's working fine for me. -
 Oh the possibilities!!! It's going to be one of the most successful modules to date, it's perfect for SoH, perfect for Nevada, and it's still in service in Turkey, so not bad for the current theater either!

1. How did you learn about DCS? I hadn't played LOMAC for years and was looking for instructions on how to get it to run in Win 7, and found out about the release of Flamming Cliffs 3 for DCS. 2. When did you first learn about the F-14? I read about it in the manual for my first flight sim ever, F19 Stealth Fighter by Microprose. I was born in 1984 so I must've been a little boy! 3. What made you fall in love with the F-14? AIM-54 Phoenix. 4. Any backstories of seeing the Top Gun movie for the first time? I was disappointed because the bad guys were flying F-5s and calling them Mig-28s! 5. Did any of you really fly/RIO in an F-14? Nope.
