I don't do the cut-off valves until I've started the turbine (learned the startup procedure from a Ka-50-guy, and according to him, the engine cut-off there must be opened when engine RPM is at 20% to not flood the engine), that's why I do that one so late. Engine control levers, are those the ones outboard of the commander's collective? I don't touch those, so they are in the centre position. Should they be up or down? Throttle is all the way back.

Hey all. Sometimes when I start up the Mi-8 I seem to be doing something that causes the engine(s) to run at emergency power (~95% instead of ~85%?), and the helicopter becomes impossible to control on the ground. I don't understand what I might have done while starting up that could have caused this. Can anyone help? My startup flow up to that point: Batteries (1+2) Inverters (115V + 36V > Auto) Fuses (all six bars, minus "the three" anti-icing ones) Fuel shut-off valves (L+R) Fuel-pumps (L+R+Service) APU mode (Start) APU start Standby generator Fire detector (Extinguisher) Turbine selector (L or R) Turbine mode (Start) Turbine start

Would it be possible to implement this? I've been using my Xbox controller for moving the camera around in Arma 3 for a while now, and I thought that would be a great thing in DCS. Just think of the really nice, smooth camera pans we could do with the dual analogue sticks. So I go into the DCS settings, choose General > Axis Controls, and guess what, Camera Horizontal/Vertical/Zoom is only available for the mouse... :( This would be a great enabler for quality video production!

I was turning down the volume of DCS yesterday to better hear my friend on TS as he was going to explain some navigation- and radio-stuff in the Mi-8, and I noticed that the volume didn't lower when I adjusted it the first time. I changed it again and nothing happened. Then I restarted the game and I could barely hear anything (not even the APU or main engines made much noise). I turn up the volume a bit again, aaaaaaand nothing... Restarted DCS once more, and sound is now at a reasonable level. Conclusion: Sound settings don't kick in until you exit DCS.

Ah, of course! Didn't think of it in terms of an ICAO code... ;) In that case I'm located near ENGM, and time-difference means flying with you to help out would not be an impossibility, but difficult. :( Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

KBFI makes zero sense to me. I was thinking more of which timezone or something like that. ;) Good to see you've found a group to fly with, that tends to help a lot! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

GrizzW, where are you from? I always recommend Bunyap Sims's "On the range" series of videos as a great way to learn the A-10C, once you've got the hang of getting it in the air and back down again. For cold-starting, I think using Lobo's checklist is good (it's not as super-detailed as the 476th one, but does what it's supposed to). I like the checklist approach over the interactive tutorial because you have to find the switches yourself (of course it helps to do the interactive tutorial a few times first to know roughly where the switches are). Once you have the switches down, you might want to make a flow of how to start the aircraft. I made one that goes clockwise left to right a couple of times, so I go a bit less back and forth than what the checklists tend to do. Anyways, fire off questions here if you're in need of help! [REPORTED]DCS 1.5.4 - UI Settings Menu Black Screen Hang
SnorreSelmer replied to DerekSpeare's topic in VR Bugs
This in not just about VR.. I installed Open Beta to try this patch out, no VR, no mods, no nothing. Went into the settings to turn down music volume (and only that), clicked APPLY and bam(!), black screen... -

This is correct shahin_sky. The A-10C BMT is in Georgia and Red Flag is an exercise run out of Nellis AFB, Nevada. Right now you have to install 1.5 and 2.0 to play both. They will be merged in the future, but there is no date for when this happens yet. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

There are times when mission triggers plain don't register. I had the same problem in the A-10C Cold Start mission and the Mi-8MTV2 when instructed to reset the radar altimeter warning. Just try again. I know it sucks, but at least you'll get repetitions out of it. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I don't know. Military technology can sometimes be self-contradictory. You want things low-tech to minimise points of failure, but you also want them to be high-tech enough to keep maintenance to a minimum... ;) So you might want a heat-sensor to keep the pitot from overheating, but if the sensor breaks then the pitot will either overheat or not heat at all... Not sure if it's modeled, but pitot heating makes the tube really hot (I've felt one on a F-16 pre-flight), and I would assume you want to turn it off as part of the "cleared runway" procedure. If you look at Snoopy's Launch Procedure video ( ), he says they turn on pitot heat, CC verifies it is hot, then it's turned off again. I assume it's left off until final checks before entering the runway. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

After the "Legacy 1.*" forum was made read-only I have been unable to update URLs to the maps I made for the parking-spots at all the NTTR airports, so here we go! All the maps I've made so far can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/24CVL The only airport missing is McCarran Intl', and while I hope to do it at some point, I don't know when that would be. Download, print, share, just please remember to give attribution if you share them online. Snorre "Fudd" Selmer

Haha, I was considering posting this exact example in another thread, along with some info on setting up laser-codes on the TGP and DSMS, but I only did a more generalised example so I wouldn't potentially violate any internal info. :) Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I made a tutorial for you on how to work with custom laser-codes, and how easy it is to set up. Enjoy! http://imgur.com/a/K6Tqk

What's PRF? Probable Rate of Failure? Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

That would most likely be the DC power system (battery and inverter), and if so that would be working as intended. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Yeah, EGI alignment is one of those "you don't HAVE to, but you REALLY want to." Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

For stationary targets, sure. I prefer LGBs myself.. The JDAMs do have one benefit over the LGBs though: if you mark multiple targets you can hit a number of targets in one pass. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I've had the pitot freeze up once. After that I always make double sure I turn on pitot heating Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

The magnetic deviation in the Caucasus map should be ~6° clockwise (if memory serves me right). That way you get Tbilisi International runway 31L being 302° true and 308° magnetic (or was it the other way around?) Anyways, that should explain the difference. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
