Optimal cruise is 200km/h IAS. Pushing 250km/h with a load that heavy (and with de-icing on?) is no wonder you got generator failure... ;) There's a list of capabilities in the beginning of the manual (max speeds etc). The thermometer is just under the weapons selector box, front right of the navigator (right seat). Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

You are losing your generators because your main rotor RPM dipped below 81%? The electrical generators are linked to the main rotor on the Mi-8. This is usually because you have the collective too high. Read up on max-, cruise- and climb-speeds, max altitudes and max carrying load as these are usually the cause of overloading the main rotor. Or it could be that you're descending fast by dropping the collective, then pulling it up too fast to arrest the descent. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

MI8 Auto start problems..
SnorreSelmer replied to Bigskill's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Ah yeah, that's why I don't play on air-Quake servers.. community PvE servers are pretty much all I do. Not as bad for the blood pressure. ;) Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk -
MI8 Auto start problems..
SnorreSelmer replied to Bigskill's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
This might not be the answer you want to hear, but if you don't like to manually start the helicopter, use hot-start helicopters. For me, the manual starting of the airframe is half the fun, but if that's not your thing, there are ways around that. As for the bug-report, well spotted! Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk -

Slowing down without gaining altitude
SnorreSelmer replied to Igneous01's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I saw a video on YouTube of a guy who bragged that he could (in DCS) stop the Mi-8 without any shaking. After watching the video, I was not impressed. He was basically throwing the airframe around in high-G maneuvers that would risk damaging the airframe and make for one painful ride for the passengers. Many people seem to be of the impression that "vibration = VRS" when vibration is your friend. Vibration tells you when you enter translation, which is a que to add collective. Also, don't watch the Doppler hover indicator when slowing down, just the VSI. Keep it above -3m/s and you'll be fine. The Doppler hover indicator is for when you're established in a stable hover. And the perfect approach/landing is like the perfect hover. It "doesn't exist". You will always slip and rotate a bit when hovering, same thing with an approach. You can minimize the fluctuations, but chances are you'll never do away with them completely. Don't worry about it. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk -
Tacca's NVG mod for 2.5+

Exactly! This is why I hope tacca can get this working! -
Tacca's NVG mod for 2.5+
SnorreSelmer replied to tacca's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Sorry it's been a while. Let me demonstrate how NVGs are in VR: ED's solution works fine, because it's covering your face from hairline to chin... Your mod would be much better if it just stopped giving me headaches after 5 minutes... (Remember, I only see the left ring with the left eye and the right ring with the right eye.) -
Tacca's NVG mod for 2.5+
SnorreSelmer replied to tacca's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
It's great that you've updated the mod, but I have a couple of points of feedback: - I fly in VR, and my NVGs show up as two unaligned circles. Is this intended? - If the above is not intended, how can I correct this? I've looked in the settings file, but the comments say absolutely nothing about what the different function inputs mean, so I have to go in and out of DCS _and_ VR a lot to throw random numbers at it to see what happens... - For this file to be truly OvGME ready, the inner folder name must be exactly the same as the zip-file, so maybe rename them both to just "Tacca's NVG mod"? -
Twitch2DCS - Simple twitch chat UI inside DCS
SnorreSelmer replied to Jabbers_'s topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Twitch chat backend uses IRC (Internet Relay Chat), but all other services use some form of HTTP chat. IRC is simple to read via LUA, HTTP isn't (I asked Jabbers the same question a while back as I stream on Mixer, but I can't stream DCS there for this exact reason). -
1: Working as intended! NVGs use optics in the same way as a camera or binoculars, and if you focus them on "infinity" (to see clearly outside) then things that are 1m/3' away will be blurry. 2 & 3: Totally agree (and this isn't just in the Ka-50, but for NVGs in general) and it also includes the armament menu.

In the map cut-out posted in the OP, there are two Norwegian air force bases: Bodø MAB (Main Air Base, barely visible in the south) and Banak. You have a few army bases in the area too, including Bardufoss where they operate Bell 412 helicopters. EDIT: I feel this would be a slightly more feasible map than the one posted further up. I know, north isn't 100% straight up, but whatever.. ;) This includes room for the main (northern) bases in Norway, Sweden and Finland, a decently large part of the Kola peninsula and enough of the Barents for anti-shipping (which is one of the main tasks that NATO would be dealing with in a WW3 scenario). We don't really have to include the White Sea to make the map good.

Seems the Replay feature is working quite well again! While OGV is nice and open source, its support in quality non-linear editors is limited, and so is video quality. AVI support is also limited, and recording RAW AVI or PNG+WAV takes massive amounts of space (and the PNG+WAV route is terribly slow too). I know there's an encoder API descriptionin DCS, but wiser people than me have tried (and failed). Could we please have a x264 encoder with CRF? I know a GPU-powered encoder is potentially faster, but they are vendor specific, and have their own disadvantages. This could be the difference between 10GB/minute (RAW AVI 1080p30) and ~10-20MB/min. Even Lagarith (lossless AVI encoder) is massively more efficient than RAW AVI...

This used to work fine before, but not anymore. I've bound it to Throttle BTN30, I've verified it reacts in the keybind menu. When I'm in the cockpit, I can mouse-click to release it and it auto-snaps back to CUT-OFF. Then I move the TM throttle to IDLE, I hear the click in cockpit, but the cockpit handle doesn't move. Now I can mouse-click it to move it to IDLE. If I now move the TM throttle to CUT-OFF, the cockpit handle moves to CUT-OFF... Basically, I can use the TM throttle to move IDLE > CUT-OFF, but not the other way around. This really stumps me!

DCS Helicopters - ED Internally developed rotary wing aircraft
SnorreSelmer replied to flybull's topic in DCS Core Wish List
All rotor-wing new is interesting and great rotor-wing news! -
This is fantastic news! Can't wait for multi-crew, even if you're doing the Huey first! :)

@gospadin: I was thinking of a scenario like this.. We're given two ingress-points (WP ALPHA and WP BRAVO) during briefing. Instead of having to go to the WPT/USR page and enter all the data, I could craft a file on my PC to do the same job as if the waypoints were defined in the mission editor, only no flight-plan has been created, only the points are loaded as user waypoints in the database. Also, thank the gods you people confirmed that there's a bug with the WPT/USR page. I was virtually banging my fist on the dash yesterday trying (and failing miserably) to add user waypoints, wondering if I had suddenly become stupid or something.. ;)
-
This could come in really handy for MP scenarios. In our vWing we have Mi-8s set on the ground with no flight-plan what-so-ever, so every time we have an OP, I have to spend a fair bit of time programming in user waypoints so I can make a flight-plan. It would be REALLY handy if I could have crafted a XML-file or something similar with user waypoint data, as if the navigator had programmed these in during startup.

MOOSE - !!! Walk your LUA mission code using LDT debugger !!!
SnorreSelmer replied to FlightControl's topic in Mission Editor
Yay! This is awesome! I'll give this a spin as soon as it's a bit more mature! (Just starting out with MOOSE and LUA, but I'm used to this from when I coded Java and it's super useful!) -
Test: Setting CPU Affinity
SnorreSelmer replied to SkateZilla's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The quick version: Intel i5 up to and including the 7th generation (Kaby Lake): affinity_mask = 12 or 6 (1100b or 0110b) for two cores, affinity_mask = 14 (1110b) for three cores. Intel i7 up to and including the 7th generation (Kaby Lake): affinity_mask = 80 or 20 (01010000b or 00010100b) for two cores, affinity_mask = 84 (01010100b) for three cores. Above answers only apply to regular (K and non-K) versions, not the Extreme-line. EDIT: And yes, I whole-heartedly recommend Process Lasso too. Not so much for the CPU affinity part (I can do that fine in autoexec.cfg), but I like to run DCS with elevated (Above normal) priority. -
