Yeah... short sighted. thank you. They encrypted the sound files because people were adding different sounds that gave a competitive advantage in multi-player. You can still replace them and do as you wish... just not in MP :). As far as why the other was short sighted... Well it's simply because you have no idea what kind of fruit it is or where it's hanging. You say it should be low hanging fruit but then just a few posts later someone explained why it likely is not. No... I'm not new here ;).

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
M1Combat replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
Well... It literally says 97 and 99 FPS... That's >2 percent... but thank you for changing what you're saying from "but there are scenarios where 5800x3d won't make a difference if you're limited by GPU." I know... splitting hairs :)... but numbers are numbers and that 2% is the absolute smallest delta I've seen. -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?

OK... I read it. Every word. I hadn't missed much :). Looks like my original assessment is still very correct. No matter what you're running the 5800x3D will be an improvement and not an insignificant one. Your post showed 13% when GPU bound and I just ran with 7% because it was a conservative estimate. Sorry man but that's a HUGE performance increase coming from a CPU upgrade when the system is GPU bound already. Would you get more from a GPU when you're gpu bound... well yeah... of course.. as I said before. BUT... Normally you get damn near nothing from a CPU upgrade when you're GPU bound. Please keep in mind I'm not suggesting that everyone just go run out and buy an x3D... There may be more gains in a GPU depending on your system for sure. I mean I'm sure there's somebody out there running with a 12900K and a GTX970 in VR or something... But even then I'd bet they'll see an improvement. Anyway... I don't mean to pick on you Some1 :)... I promise :). It's just that this statement "but there are scenarios where 5800x3d won't make a difference if you're limited by GPU." doesn't seem true. I will admit... I am an AMD fan and have been since the K6-2. I run whatever is best/close to best bang for the buck at the time though... I'm running a 3800X right now... But I had been running Intel exclusively since not long after the K6-2 days because any time AMD was the right choice for me... I didn't need an upgrade. I like AMD though. they're a good company and when they're doing good I like to point it out :). They are currently doing VERY good ;). -

I mean your graphic you posted a while back showing a 7% gain when the system was fully GPU bound. 7% at 45FPS is about 3FPS. That's nothing to sneeze at coming directly from a CPU when you're GPU bound. That's actually pretty dang phenomenal. -

Your comparison showed that IN THAT EXACT SCENARIO the 3D was 7% faster. I've already pointed that out to you. -

The 3D I'm pretty sure... By more than you probably think. I don't have all those parts myself but what I have seen seems to support my claim. Or I'm mis-remembering... You should give this very thread a perusal... -

Yes. What I've seen tells me that if you are GPU limited then it's a bit faster (was very surprised by how much...). If you are CPU limited then it's quite a bit faster. -

The install I suggested doesn't have anything to do with deleting a file. -

I wouldn't assume. Actually I think that's maybe one of the things I've heard it doesn't like... but there may be a new one or a new version of what you have that may work better. I would 100% start with a clean DCS. No uninstall/reinstall but do a full cleanup like is stated in the first post... "to a slideshow after (exactly) following the first post." 1) Clean/Repair DCS and start with a clean baseline and resolution settings. This means PD must be set 1.0 and no funny business inside the DCS folder I would encourage you to backup the 'Saved Games' DCS folder and delete it as well. Only after everything launches at the end bring all your other files back in. Use the skatezilla utility above. (No really! I know I've reapeated this for 7th time, but this thread would be a fraction as big if everyone did the above ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ ) -

That is very rare. I would indeed start with a fresh install and give it a shot. If you can get the benefits of OXR like the vast majority of folks have it's VERY worth the trouble. If you need to go back though just reverse each step. I do suspect you likely have a mod or remnants of a mod of some sort clogging something up. With a 3800x and a 2080(non-Ti) I get 50-60FPS with some options not all the way down on a G2 at 100% res... AND... If I crank all the options up it's smooth and playable all the way down to 30FPS. I actually do get very slightly more FPS with SteamVR... but it's just not as SMOOTH. It's very usable so... go back if you must... but OXR when working right is smoother and has better visuals... let alone the visual tuning you can do with colors etc. You can really make it look super nice. Also... There SEEMS to be a bug in the OC install right now... A few people have needed to do the manual OC install. the instructions are on the page linked to in the Open Composite install step. Scroll down a bit and there's a dll you can download (64bit) and copy to the DCS folder. Again... Do as you wish but OXR IMO is worth it when it works right... And FYI it's worked right almost 100% of the time for me... -

Do the manual OpenComposite install... requires copying a .dll into the dcs folder. Destructions are on the Open Composite link. Scroll down a bit. As much as I love Edmuss and Nikoel... They clearly have IT Support Fatigue :). I don't blame them honestly... they have indeed answered the same question 47 times... per day... BUT... That still doesn't mean that every issue is a user created install error There does seem to be a bug right now where the OC install doesn't quite work right sometimes. Mine works at the moment after doing the manual OC install... so I don't care what the bug is or how to fix it on that end... but it does seem to exist. -
Comments like this are kinda short sighted friend....

Sorry I thought that was your guide :). Your experience doesn't matter relative to mine though :). I'm glad yours worked for sure... Mine did not. I had to do the manual open composite install (the dll copy). I don't know why. As I said I think the problem happened when OC downloaded the .dll's. I had run it as admin. I'm a systems and Network engineer. Certified for both but more importantly I've been playing with computers and gaming since I was a little kid... I'm now 44. I have a lot of experience both breaking and fixing gaming issues and very high level IT issues. Complex PC procedures are not foreign to me. I followed the destructions to the letter :). Then I ran through them just to be sure about 5 times before I posted my issue in the other thread. There seems to be a few other people who had similar issues. I then started poking around and decided to try manually copying the .dll as outlined in the OC instructions on their page. It worked thankfully :). Again... No idea why it didn't work initially and what's more important... I don't care :). It works NOW after I had to copy the OC dll into the folder manually
-
@nikoel Well... I had a working OXR before the open composite installer. I skipped it for the first few versions for a while simply because what I had was working and working very well. I cleaned up my install of all mods and ran skate's cleaner with the extra options... Then ran through edmuss's install doc step by step to update to the newest setup... It wouldn't work. It worked fine in SVR when I set it that way, could go to the OXR environment etc... headset worked... all of it... but no OXR in DCS. I had to do the manual open composite style install where I copied a .dll into the DCS folder to get it to work. Never watched an install vid at all. I suspect something happened during the step where open composite downloaded the dll's. I think it just placed them in the wrong spot or something.

Hey all... I got through mission one... In misison two the other flight takes off before me like they should, I take off and my flight follows me just fine... I can't seem to join up with first flight after that. First flight climbs to about 3K feet and flys a super erratic snake/"S" pattern for some reason. I've flown formation with their flight (maybe 100 yards out, on both sides), I've flown close formation with their flight lead (both sides... 5meters out... while he's doing his super dumb snake pattern flight...) and sometimes it plays what probably is the audio it's supposed to play when we join up (something about a flight of eight ready to go) but nothing happens at all. I tried flying the route across the chanel but it appeared to be a ghost town when I got there. Any thoughts?

I was able to fix my issue by doing the manual open composite style install. -
It makes sense... I ran into the same problems with my old 970 with my HTC vive. I worked that bios setting each clock stage to the lowest voltage it would run on, ended up being able to run it way faster and gained all sorts of performance with that poor card. I can't believe it's getting to the point where I need to do that to a 2080 already... This thing was a beast :).

I re-installed the older version of OXR and that seems to work... I'm thinking that means I need to manually pop the newer d3d file in the bin folder... I'll check it out. You're basically implying that we can live with a touch of input lag and it buys us some smoothness yeah? -

Can you prove that? Are you saying you gain some MS frame time by having it render frames BEFORE it will know where your head is at? I can try later but... seems not legit based on my understanding of that setting. -

I'm having the 2D issue as well. If I set OC back to Steam everything works. OXR worked before... but I had been using the older version that didn't use Open Composite. I can see the OpenXR environment when I hit the button to show it (more later on this) WMR works. Headset works. How I got there... I removed any mods (only had OXR, using OVGME) updated DCS to the last patch and then ran through all steps of the install on post one... Everything. I ran skate's repair with the all files and extra files buttons. I did not "download" the latest version of OXRTools... But I verified settings and am assuming it keeps itself up to date. I downloaded the Open Composite package and did the things there. As you say in the destructions my app config page was blank until after running DCS the first time, now it has DCS there. Status is OpenComposite. I renamed the D3DCompiler file to .old. SVR still works after this BTW... must be using a default somewhere like OC would. Verified Mixed REality Headset Display settings. Cleared Env Data and then realigned in WMR. I DO get an error but of course I didn't write it down last night. I was just itching to test the new BVR stuff so I just used SVR. Also... Since I've been playing with the Apache so much lately I instead chose a very familiar mission and did that as a SVR/OXR comparison. The SCUD buster mission that comes with the Apache... Please help me get OXR working again LOL :). The Error said something about an incorrect "apptype" as I recall. Another thing to note... When I run the OXR environment... It runs only until the timer countdown (the one telling you to press Ctrl+Num2 as I recall) gets done... then the headset goes black and seems to crash something in the system. I say that because after the headset goes black WMR thinks it's asleep and won't wake it back up for a while even if I close WMR and re-open. If I wait a little while then it will wake the headset again. I know this is likely an odd one... and I can't test anything until about 10 hours from now...
