I think I've seen this too. My guess is the "Your RWR is muted" light that comes on to warn you you have the sound off doesn't have another texture for when it's in night time mode. Set your RWR to night, and turn the volume RWR knob down until the light comes on.

Hotfix works for me, but MiG-21 seems to lag a bit. Very happy tactical numbering is back.
-
When the beta updates, will the binary files be re-overwritten? Like if ANOTHER beta update comes which fixes the MiG-21 completely, will I have to put the old files back in? Like can I do it and not have to touch it ever again when newer updates come out? I don't want to overwrite the old binary files (I probably will) or rename them, forget about it, then later wonder why DCS is not working when the beta updates because I forgot to re-put in the old binaries.

Do you know if there's any ETA or if a quick hotfix is possible? I think if you select the MiG-21 online it crashes the entire server.

[REPORTED] DCS MiG-21 crash while loading (in Avionics.dll)
Toybasher replied to JughedJones's topic in Game Crash
Same problem. Using windows 7 64 bit. 560ti Video Card, I7 3820 processor, quad core 3.6 ghz. 8gb ram. Crashes every time I start a mission on "Loading Land Surface". Just hangs and eventually get a "DCS has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. Occurs with BOTH SU-25T and MiG-21. Not sure about TF-51D but I'm pretty sure it still crashes. EDIT: NEVERMIND. SU-25T works. It's only the MiG-21. -
I was thinking it would be funny to post the fact the beta still isn't out yet as a bug, but I'd probably get a suspension, so I'm not going to. There's an entire 1.5 beta forum open now. Must be very close.

Public inquiry. What is your PC video card?
Toybasher replied to Chizh's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
560ti, as Stuart Ashen probably call it on youtube, "Retro-Tat". In a couple months I plan to upgrade to a 970. -
Next DCS (European) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Toybasher replied to Busterbvi's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Mirage 1/2/3 family. (The ones that look like MiG-21's) F104 Starfighter. Harrier. Forgot to vote "other" but I'd like a F177 stealth craft, too. -
Good guide but I noticed a few mistakes. I can't remember some of them but one I am certain of is you mentioned the "CENTER FUEL TANK" warning light as a sign your center fuel tank is empty. This is not actually the case. You also list the external wing tanks twice I think on that warning light chart. The center fuel tank light under the stick comes on when a center fuel tank is attached and remains on until it is jettisoned. Directly to the left of that light is one that says "FUEL PODS EMPTY A" or something. That's the one for the center fuel tank. When the Fuel Pods Empty A light begins flickering/flashing your center fuel tank is low on fuel, (I think it's supposed to because it's almost empty and it's triggering the sensor on and off.) Once it stays on, your center fuel tank is completely empty and you should jettison it. After jettisoning, the "CENTER FUEL TANK" light should go out. "FUEL PODS EMPTY W" light on the right side of the cockpit comes on when your wing tanks are empty. Sorry if I'm being picky, but you also don't mention to put the landing gear in neutral position after raising it. (and I think you have to for lowering as well?) otherwise you'll leak compressed air or hydraulic fluid or something over time. (I think like in the UP position, it keeps trying to raise the gear even when it's fully retracted and locked in place, and over time that can cause pressure to drop.) Aside from the small errors, it's a really good guide and I've printed out a few tables from it.

What does the AI light stand for? I know it's for locks from other planes, but what does it actually say? Aerial Interceptor I think but I might be wrong.
-
When locking with radar, the "overlay" disappears. The little thing with the "5, 10, 30" scales on it. I'm not completely sure but I think it's like an actual physical marking on the screen, and shouldn't disappear when you lock. Especially considering the horizontal scales seem to be used for when you get a lock, and the lines are supposed to move along the scales as you get closer. You can only test the SPO-10 when your radar is on. Ingame you can test it even with the radar off.
-
IRL the SPO-10 could detect locks and show you a direction. The "All four lights come on" effect only occurs when a radar source is really strong or close. Locks are signified by sound frequency "Sharply growing" and the lights flicking according to this manual. http://www.avialogs.com/en/aircraft/ussr/mikoyangurevitch/mig-21/mig-21bis-pilot-s-flight-operating-instructions.html Page 72. Only at around 2-5km should locks make all 4 sectors light up. depending on the radar's strength. Also to test the SPO-15, the pilot has to have his MiG's radar turned on. (I guess the "Test" feature works by seeing if it's picking up your own plane's radar.) http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=48.0 On a side note, I noticed in the sound files there appears to be no outer marker beacon noise, only middle and inner.

Leatherneck Simulations Mini-Update - SEPTEMBER 2015
Toybasher replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
CRT screen representation? Doesn't the MiG-21 already have that on the radar screen? Like it's sort of "recessed" back into the cockpit, with the actual "Display" farther back. If it's something else, can it be later ported over to the MiG-21? Also in the changelog, I see the SPS-141 ECM pod is not fixed, which is odd because one of the staff members posted that it was, or they were at least aware of it. Keep up the fine work. Also, isn't tactical numbering supposed to be back for 1.5? Remember reading that, too. "Cockpit graphical fixes" Will that hopefully include English translation of the gauges? Right now with the English cockpit, the gauges are still in Russian. -
I agree the jamming filters are a bit weird. The passive one meant for Chaff I assume is completely worthless since Chaff does not show up on radar in the first place. Active and Intermittent cause instant and complete burn through afaik, even against modern jammers.
-
Clarification would be nice regarding SPS-141-100
Toybasher replied to TwojaStara's topic in MiG-21Bis
It's being fixed in the 1.5 update according to another thread. -
I've probably crashed more then were ever produced. I know I definitely have with the Su-25T, of which only 11 exist.
-
Some things in FC3 are a bit simplified. It's hard to explain but the planes don't have as much "features" on them as the full-sim ones. They are still pretty detailed, though. For example starting the 25T only requires a few keyboard shortcuts (Electrics on, engine 1 on, engine 2 on.) opposed to the complicated start up process of the a10c or mig-21. The FC3 craft also lack a clickable cockpit. This is a bit of a pain for me as I'm using a Logitech extreme 3d pro and having to print out a million keyboard shortcuts is annoying for me. I really hope ED considers upgrading the FC3 craft to "fullsim".

Campaign issues, a few, pointers needed!
Toybasher replied to 1.JaVA_Platypus's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I agree the campaign is a bit finicky. There's supposed to be northeria and Southeria skins for the mig. Remember reading (At least in august 2014, might have changed.) the southeria skin isn't implemented yet or something. I dislike the "Fail and you restart" mechanic. It should be a separate "Iron Man" campaign for people who enjoy that sort of thing. (I personally prefer being able to tackle the same mission over and over till I get it right.) Also, there's one mission (Mission 10 I think?) where you get the jammer pod and have to use it against a SAM site. Since the pod currently doesn't work (I dunno how well jamming even works against SAMS in DCS anyways.) the mission is more or less impossible. -
[EVALUATING] ASP for A-2-A gun use incorrect / Radar
Toybasher replied to Shark-Bait's topic in Weapons
http://www.simhq.com/_air14/air_528a.html if you watch the interactive slideshow and read, the old dev's had correct modeling of the RWR, (Lights flickering when locked, and only all 4 when the radar is very close to you when locked.) the SORC "problem light" tone, a fully English cockpit, and "better" looking radar clutter that actually looks like target returns and not "hazy" areas on the radar. You couldn't "Fixate" the beam on the beam rider mode, either. Something I dug up worth a read. -
Agreed. Sorry for the necro, but what I discovered today is a bit concerning. http://www.simhq.com/_air14/air_528a.html In the interview, the old devs supposedly had the correct modeling of the RWR, a fully English cockpit, and (Better?) modeling of ground and cloud clutter, where they appear as actual targets and not simply fuzzy areas on the radar. (I am not sure if this is the correct modeling.) Also the missile locked beam thing couldn't be "Fixated" on a target to fire beam riders like you can in DCS. They also had incendiary bombs. The sorc light also emitted a tone when something went wrong. I am curious leatherneck. What happened? Why did you strip the fully English cockpit? Otherwise the sim is top notch.
-
Any dev updates on this? In hindsight it's not a big game breaker, (You're trading in a fuel tank, which is important since the mig is a gas guzzler.) but there's one campaign mission which involves using a jammer on a sam site, and obviously it does not work right now.

[EVALUATING] ASP for A-2-A gun use incorrect / Radar
Toybasher replied to Shark-Bait's topic in Weapons
That's good. (Even though I have almost no actual expertise in the mig and can hardly take off) You textured the cockpit? You did a great job, but one small issue is a few switches and the gauges are still in Russian, even with the English cockpit. I understand some things are hardly used (Radio self destruct button, has no actual effect ingame aside from killing you radio I think. Emergency Transponder does not seem to do anything either.) but the gauges really should be translated into English. Often I find myself confused and having to keep checking the manual for gauge layout, only to forget something else. Keep up the great work. Even though the mig has some broken/missing features it still is extremely detailed. -
34. Page 70 of real mig manual explains the SPO-10 is supposed to flicker a ton and the sounds increase in frequency (Faster? Higher pitched?) when locked on with lights flickering, and only like 3 to 5 KM from enemy fighter radar will all 4 lights turn on. In game, no matter the distance, as soon as you're locked all 4 lights come on, even if it's from a SAM site further away.

A few knobs and buttons do not seem to work at all in the MIG's cockpit. I know the pilot ventilation/suit pressure knob thing (it's orange, and on the left side of the cockpit) can be clicked and dragged, but it doesn't seem to move. The little "Handle" on the right side of the seat (I think another oxygen related thing?) can be clicked and moved, but often after moving it, you can't seem to grab onto it anymore. THe little switch above the radio/IFF self destruct button can be toggled, but it's hard to switch it back once moved (You can, but it clips through the protective cover, not the red one, but that greenish rectacngular shaped fhap thing.) I think the harness tension control cannot be interacted with, either. On the far, far bottom left of the cockpit, there's a little silver box with switches on them. They can be moused over and the cursor turns green like they can be interacted with, but doing so does nothing. I think it's supposed to be the radio amplifier, at least that's what the manual says. The Anti-G-suit pressure leaver is also uninteractable, again your mouse turns green when moused over, like it can.

As of right now, the SPS Jamming Pod is completely broken. It does not auto-release Chaff or Flares, and the lock on light is not coming on when I'm being locked with radar. I am not sure if the jammer function works, but considering the state it is in now, I doubt it. (Have not actually tested in mutiplayer. I know AI mig's can use the SPS to jam you, though. Can it be fixed and made functional in a later update? It's sort of important as the radar jamming would make the mig a bit better against radar guided missiles. Right now it's nothing but dead weight that can hold extra chaff/flares for you.
