Here are my current Nvidia and DCS settings pix for you. Tried turning off Deferred Shading within DCS but makes no difference. Noticed on rear trailing edge of M2000C wing (ailerons) is similar shimmering effect and also on linear structures such as road and white lines along road. May just be a bug to be sorted out as DCS 2.0 evolves and improves. Gary

Was wondering if someone knows how to sort out either a Nvidia graphic setting or a setting within DCS2.0 that causes a shimmering effect with: *ground structures such as a cluster of buildings in the distance, *vertical street lighting poles, *vertical power transmission poles, *on the profile border line of larger buildings in Vegas. With the street lighting poles and power transmission poles it is almost like a pulsing effect up and down the height of these structures. Any ideas appreciated....Gary

Why Are My Frame Rates So Low DCS2.1.1?
gary palmer replied to gary palmer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks SkateZilla...regarding M2000C mirror issue: QUOTE>Funny thing is if I set MSAA to 2x the mirrors in M2000C remain with a frozen image (static); and if I set MSAA to 4x or higher they work as normal as is also the case with MSAA Off<UNQUOTE. Some additional info about the M2000C mirror issue is that toggling SHIFT+M which I think is suppose to show or not show mirrors also results in mirror being frozen-static or not frozen. Seems like a bug so thought I would let you know. On one occassion the mirrors completely disappeared-which could be mirrors toggling Off but was not done/actioned by me using SHIFT+M. Thx Art-J about FXAA is an improvement being On; and definitely almost completely removes shimmer and jaggys as you mentioned. For me it does not seem to make much difference in blurriness but am running 2560x1440res. Changes which I have made so far are MSAA-OFF, VSync-OFF, FXAA-ON and is a big improvement in frame rate and overall smoothness. ...Gary -
Why Are My Frame Rates So Low DCS2.1.1?
gary palmer replied to gary palmer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks BIGNEWY, Art-J & BitMaster. MSAA Off made big difference with stutter in and around Los Vegas with about 60fps in cockpit and tad higher outside cockpit. VSync Off increased in cockpit fps to about 70fps and outside view fps to about 100fps. Though the GTX card I use was good for max settings with 2.0.0 and 1.5.6 at max everything...also believe using a dedicated Samsung 850 Pro SSD for all versions including 2.1.1 helped considerably. Unless one has some sort of ultimate system these results are fine by me and am happy with results...Gary -
Why Are My Frame Rates So Low DCS2.1.1?
gary palmer replied to gary palmer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thx BitMaster...turned off MSAA within game System Options and yep frame rates now at 42-65fps and much less stutter. Funny thing is if I set MSAA to 2x the mirrors in M2000C remain with a frozen image (static); and if I set MSAA to 4x or higher they work as normal as is also the case with MSAA Off as u suggested. Turning MSAA Off does produce a sort of shimmering effect on building structure around Los Vegas but is a minor matter. Regarding the FSXAA setting I cannot find this in game but is a setting at Nvidia Control Panel>3D settings called FXAA which is set 'Use Global Setting (Off)', so is Off already. Is this setting u mentioned as not sure where to find FSXAA? Thanks Gary -
My system specs are as follows: i7-4770CPU @3.4GHz. 16GB Kingston RAM KHX16LC10K216X RAM-with current settings use about 13GB of this RAM within game. DCS2.1.1 on Samsung 850PRO SSD. Windows7-64bit on Intel520 SSD. Run 1xScreen Dell U2713H monitor at 2560*1440 resolution for game, but have a dual monitor setup. Attached is a screenshot of my System setting within DCS. Graphic card: ASUS GeForce GTX1060 STRIX OC 6GB GDDR5 using Nvidia driver 378.66 with default setting for 3D Custom settings. ASUS Z87-C Motherboard, revision 1.02 I never overclock anything as can't be bothered with instability issues that can bring. *attached is a screenshot of my System settings within DCS2.1.1 Am aware that new DCS2.1.1 is a major upgrade from older 2.0.0 and much more resource hungry. On old DCS2.0.0 and 1.5.6 with max settings everything ... no stutter/lags and smooth rendering always. Am getting frame rates from 19fps upto 56fps within DCS2.1.1, which vary according to where I am flying...if over Los Vegas close to ground and major buildings of city is about 25fps...(get some stutter/lag), but if high up well off the ground over bare desert am getting about 56fps...(where is smooth rendering). Maybe there is nothing wrong other than new DCS2.1.1 is a hungry for resources game and maybe in future DCS developers will make game engine more efficient? Is a new order of things. Am wanting to know if these are reasonable frame rates or can I tweak/improve on them by changing something?? Thx...Gary

DCS.exe in Nvidia Cpanel - How?
gary palmer replied to Falcon_S's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Yep integration is always a problem when PC+software is a multi manufacturers product. Nothing can match a product completely built in-house where integration is just there. I find some simple rules work well to improve on problems we are discussing. 1. update later not earlier...more likely initial release problems may be ironed out 2. do your homework and research on software product well before using it. 3. install as little software as possible on your PC to achieve the result desired 4. do not be afraid to give problematic software product the sack and stop trying to work with it 5. if there is not a problem just simply do not update and only do so if update actually addresses an issue specifically. 6. forget the 'latest is the best' mantra. update can sometimes be about marketing and not just an update; or be in the case of unified software for a problem/OS I do not even have 7. use matured software as much as possible..if it is new it will be more alpha than ever 8. get rid of all bloatware as much as possible. 9. re-install your OS at regular intervals so as to get a cleaner state OS. 10. if problems occur do not rush at the problem when you do not really understand it...time allows one to reflect for a solution 11. Study your OS and software on it so you know your stuff. I hope these ideas can help others.... Gary -
DCS.exe in Nvidia Cpanel - How?
gary palmer replied to Falcon_S's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Sounds good however looking at reviews regards this utility NPM this thing is not perfect...has bugs and problems...thanks for info but tool is just tinkering around the edges of a problem that needs to be addressed from within Nvidia and their driver software at a core level. Now I think about it; software that is really robust, thoroughly tested before release and released later rather than earlier to achieve same; seems to be somewhat rare. Programs like WinRAR, RoboForm, Tunebite, MPC-HC, VLC media player are just some examples of software I use which work well with little or no issues. If a car was built in a sloppy manner it would be regarded as a lemon and the manufacturer would pay with loss of sales providing the maker has some competition. Some software makers have little competition so we have to put up with buggy programs that can be a real pain for the end user. -
DCS.exe in Nvidia Cpanel - How?
gary palmer replied to Falcon_S's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I doubt if Nvidia would develop a driver specifically for DCS World without a charge of some sort. Would be big $$$ maybe. DCS really is a great game as a Flight Sim and one of the best out there. Gary -
DCS.exe in Nvidia Cpanel - How?
gary palmer replied to Falcon_S's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Have posted it at Guru 3D, so hopefully a Nvidia developer will pick up on it and eventually this long standing inadequacy will be resolved. I wish they would build a Nvidia driver for DCS World. Thx... Gary -
DCS.exe in Nvidia Cpanel - How?
gary palmer replied to Falcon_S's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Some Possibly Helpful Information I only have DCS 2.1.1 installed and did have DCS Blackshark1 (old DVD install based game) & DCS1.5.6 sometime ago-long uninstalled. In past and not currently with NV Control Panel>Manage 3D Settings>Program Settings; if I select Add so as to point to folder path S:\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\bin to aquire the dcs.exe file I want to set for DCS2.1.1 a notification balloon would appear for several seconds where the path will be displayed. Please look at attached pics and specifically: correct path, mismatched entry.jpg to see what I mean. The path is correct but the customizable new entry says: Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark (dcs.exe) not: DCS World 2 OpenAlpha (dcs.exe) which would be correct. This is a Nvidia design weakness that will not be solved by doing a clean install of Nvidia graphic driver even if program such as Display Driver Uninstaller-DDU is used to clean out remnants/leftovers of previous graphic drivers. I have done this several times and is no fix that way. It is as I said a DESIGN WEAKNESS on Nvidia's part. However the path is correct so settings can be customized. To make sure you have the 'right' dcs.exe look at the folder path that pops up momentarily with notification balloon I mentioned earlier. Alternatively browse via folder tree to DCS.exe file within installation version of DCS you have installed and select it so is added. If path is correct yet is a mismatched entry such as: Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark (dcs.exe) is still customizable. DCS does seem to be a game where in game Option>System settings are mostly designed to be game driven not so much Nvidia Control Panel driven. Ever wondered why Nvidia never seem to make a driver specifically designed for DCS World! I have never seen such a driver. I have played many other types of games and many seem to be the opposite; where Nvidia Control Panel customizable settings can make significant difference. For this reason when I install Nvidia driver I do a customized install selecting the driver and PhysX System Software only (essential for game) and just do not bother fiddling around with Nvidia Control Panel customizations as they do not make much difference with this game. Die hard purists who want Nvidia customizations may not agree with me; but I have found based on my own experience it really is not worth all the bother/experimentation with settings for almost no difference or a doubtful difference. Thx JG14Smil. Sounds like u have different setup to me in that u use multiple monitors for game. I have 2 monitor PC but one is enough for me with game. Sounds like your settings may not necessarily suit my situation. Thanks for 378.66 as the process\experimenting with different graphic drivers is time consuming. Not sure what you mean by the abbreviation AS? Could u clarify for me please? Game runs smoothly when over water but are you saying a high setting on water even when water is not visible has impact on performance? Thx for your time and trouble...Gary
-
Thanks JG14 Smil. That is reassuring to hear as I get lag/stutter only if flying low and in and around Los Vegas within NTTR where much rendering is required..every where else is smooth..no stutter. Am running W7/64bit+16GB RAM+game on Samsung850Pro, i7CPU+NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, resolution 2560x1440. Have attached pic of my settings within game that seem to work best for me after some experimenting. I do not want to reduce settings just so less lag at Los Vegas as I want quality for rest of NTTR as that is where I mostly fly. Any possibility u could send me a pic of the settings you have within game? Thanks Gary

JG14_Smil thanks for your input regards 378.66 Have found it to be pretty good with DCS2.1.0 myself ... better than 382.33 Like you I could not get 368.81 to run 2.1.0 without lots of jitter etc. All the problems I was having before was the result of a bad update/download for 2.0 to 2.1.0 Everything running ok now. Clean install of DCS has sorted it out. Noticed the demands of running Normandy are much greater than NTTR as is more graphics intensive for sure. So settings can be compromise to get both to run well. My old GTX770 would have struggled with 2.1.0 so glad got new GTX1060 6GB. With 2.0 could run on max settings with 1060 but not so with 2.1.0 and Normandy. I thought I had it all there but alas not so... Gary

Is the rename routine JG 14 Smil about saving aircraft config and settings from a previous install so as to avoid job of setting up each and every aircraft again?..tedious. As I had not refined aircraft setting to a great extent before I thought I would start from scratch and slave my way thru the setup aircraft thing with controls but be more detailed this time. I have a saved copy of Saved Games folders from previous install. Hopefully 378.66 is running well for you. Am waiting on install to 2.1.0 to complete and see how things go. Gary

Well I have followed your lead JG14 Smil and uninstalled 382.33 and done a clean install of 378.66 ... next shall reinstall DCS2.1.0 Hopefully all will run well. Shall stick to DCS2.1.0 and skip on 1.5.6 as seems difficult to get a driver that will run both versions of DCS well. JG14 Smil are you running 378.66 with both versions of DCS? How do they contrast using 378.66? Thx..Gary

well after some sort of bad install during my update to DCS2.1.0 + Normandy map+Assets etc I could not get 2.1.0 run properly...incomplete loading up of mission and if could get into missions no input or F key function,,,ESC not working and need task manager to end game. tried clean fresh install of driver 382.33 which is latest (from368.81) and improved things a tad but not solved aforementioned problems...also after update I have problems also with DCS1.5.6 crashing too. Gameplay possible in 1.5.6 though. Seems unlikely as they are separate installations?? Maybe they have some common files..I don't know. I thought 1.5.6 ran better on 368.81 then on 382.33; which seemed more suited to new 2.1.0 ? Anyway I have uninstalled both versions of DCS and will do a clean fresh install which hopefully will have me up and flying again. Have cleaned up all remaining remnant folders. Also should mention that when I did update to 2.1.0 I did have Malwarebytes butt in a few times blocking some eagle dynamics website...so that could have been the source of my problems...Maybe? Any ideas feedback welcome... GAry

Problems with DCS 2.1.0 Update After update to DCS2.1.0 have problems. Could not get DCS to start/initialise with warning message: missing VCRUNTIME140.dll as per attached pic. After install of DCS2.1.0 followed by install of Normandy map and WW2 Assets Pack this file was deleted by install process and normally resides in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. Fix was to install 'Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2015' available from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=48145 Game now will start up as missing .dll was replaced by install Visual C++ package...but also more problems. Though with start up problems I have experienced so far are: * unable in general to load up a flight or mission with process completing...if I get to screen where I should be able to select the FLY button; it does not work. * when I was able to fly F-5E Tiger over Nevada game crashed to Desktop, or sometimes to a blank black screen. Use of Task Manager required to End Task so as to exit DCS with above scenarios. Sounds like DCS update to 2.1.0 is a big one with lots of changes so needs lots of work. With update to 2.1.0 ? Is this a graphic driver issue? or just a very buggy update which needs sorting out by developers? Has anyone else experienced these sort of symptoms? Any feedback would be appreciated. Have noticed also that after DCS2 update to DCS 2.1.0 DCS1.5.6 crashes when playing using CREATE FAST MISSION choice to fly. Before 1.5.6 stable with no issues. Is this possible as are different installs. Maybe some common file is broken after update to DCS2.1.0 At Updates section of Forum: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188117 there is some reference to issues with update. Thx...Gary

I have GPUTweak2_Ver1.4.5.2 (latest) installed as part of install of my ASUS GeForce GTX1060 STRIX OC 6GB graphic card and am wondering is it safe to use ASUS GPUTweakII RemoveTool V1.0.0.9 (Latest) to uninstall GPU Tweak2. At the following website: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?82793-SEVERE-quot-asus-gpu-tweakII-removal-tool-quot-(format-like)-BUG It is described as a real headache and uninstalls and wipes things it should not. However this forum thread is out of date by about 8 months. Removal tool versions discussed at site are older than latest version and is hard for me to get a clear answer about how safe the GPUTweakII RemoveTool V1.0.0.9 (Latest) is to use. Wanting to know is it safe to use and also is it better to simply uninstall GPUTweak2 using Control Panel Items\Programs and Features?? Hope someone can please give me some clarity on this. Thankyou...Gary

Installed driver 368.81 which several members suggested to me who are also on Windows7/64bit; and similar or same card as my new GTX1060. So far all is running well and is really nice to set all settings within both DCS1.5.6 + 2.0 to max with absolutely smooth game play. Card runs nice and cool too with 58 degrees centigrade (136 degrees Fahrenheit) being the highest temp I have seen so far and fans barely nudging up past 40%. Is winter here in Australia so ambient temp is coolish. My old GTX770 would sit on about 80 degrees centigrade (176 degrees Fahrenheit) and fans ran hard. In fact the hard load on fans is why I needed to replace my card...they are getting a little bit rattly at idle RPM unlike new cards that switch off fans when not required. Thanks to all for replies and shall add to postings once I have run new setup over several weeks. Cheers...Gary
