press the same button or keyboard key you currently use to enable nose wheel steering a 2nd time ( will need to be held down and at same time use rudder ) only works at very low speed of aircraft.

thx everybody ... when landing I cage the HUD and place the Ghost Velocity Vector/Ghost Flight Path marker on landing end of runway so to land accurately on runway. If I landed uncaged HUD situation where is crosswind using standard velocity vector/standard flight path marker I will not land on runway but to left or right of runway. Seems to be a system to compensate for crosswind circumstances. I just love the detail in this game and one never stops learning. Is a good explanation of this stuff also in Chuck's F18 manual too. Thx again..Gary

When I fly F/A-18C Hornet especially after some tight turning I notice the pitch indicator on HUD is sometimes off centre (may drift to right or drift to left off centre) even when aircraft resumes being perfectly straight and parallel to ground. I am referring to the part of HUD symbology where pitch is indicated with 5,10,15,20 etc and -5,-10,-15,-20 etc with dead level in middle between these two plus/minus pitch ranges. Not sure if this is a bug or I am just not understanding something here.

Thx for that info bbrz regards weathervaning effect. Makes sense especially with large tail fin vertical surface area at rear of plane. In my case with windsock pointing to right, therefore wind coming from left would be pushing those surfaces rightwards hence nudging nose front end to left...much like a weather vane on someones roof. I shall study wind direction given by ATC, windsock direction and resulting drift left or right accordingly. This may not be a bug and just weathervaning effect upon tail fin area. You are right the plane feels more like it is turning slightly rather than drifting. Hopefully I can find a landing situation with no wind at all...that would be a good test...gary

Update here. The problem had disappeared without me doing anything. Then returned with the opposite of a slight leftward drift upon landing. I know it is not the wind because the wind sock at end of runway is not pointing to the left but to the right. Wind sock direction does not match the direction of drift. Funny thing is when i did last update to 2.5 OpenBeta (update6) I had a similar problem with front wheel occillating back and forth with a bias to the right. Look at post: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215022 It also resolved spontaneously with no action on my part. The drift also happens across all aircraft modules so seems to be some problem with rudder, nose wheel steering and DCS interaction with Windows (drivers). Only has happened with these last two updates. I am on Windows 7-64bit SP1. Hope developers look at this. Problem is slight but new to last two updates and resolves itself. Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS joystick and Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle Controller are both properly calibrated.

thanks Hornet_101 but I can not find any setting anywhere that allows enable/disable Wind. also should not happen at every map and airport and just be a slight rightward drift upon landing ...if is a wind setting would expect direction of drift to be random. could you walk me through within settings where is a Wind setting? thx...gary

after most recent update: DCS 2.5.2.19641 Open Beta Update 7 am noticing upon landing at any airport the F18 drifts very slightly too the right with Nose wheel steering can compensate plane back to center there is a very slight rightward drift bias. my throttle and joystick are calibrated correctly and centred for rudder...is anyone else noticing this?

Hi HiJack I found the .diff.lua in location C:\Users\Gary\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\Input\FA-18C_hornet\joystick for example ...and gather the number in brackets as per pic attached is the current joystick ID. How would you obtain the new joystick device ID? so as to cut and paste it into the file name within brackets of .diff.lua file. Is this how it is done...Gary

Hi I have a Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS joystick which is getting somewhat tired/sloppy. Am wondering if I replace it with exactly the same type; will I be able to just disconnect the tired stick and replace/connect the new one and keep all my input bindings without any other actions. So will work just as it did with old same type joystick. Thankyou...Gary

After recent update DCS 2.5.2.19157 Update 6 with DCS FA-18C Hornet there is a bug with nose wheel steering when turned on with keyboard S command. With aircraft on runway turning nose wheel steering on, results in nose wheel moving back and forth (oscillating) between right and centre position but not left when operating the rudder to steer. So aircraft steers to the right but not to the left using rudder on joystick. Also when on runway right side rudder only moves but not left side rudder. This has only happened after latest update DCS 2.5.2.19157 Update 6...before update these issues did not exist. With aircraft stopped look at chase view directly from behind and operate rudder...only right side rudder works not left side. When landing and wheels on ground aircraft steers to right off runway. Is anyone else having this problem...can user fix it or is it a bug only DCS can fix? Gary

Tip...: Afterburner "disable button" save fuel
gary palmer replied to delevero's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Loss of F18C Afterburner When SSAA Enabled Here is some extra information. Confused me until I made a binding for 'cycle afterburner detent-ON/OFF' Under Controls with no binding for 'cycle afterburner detent-ON/OFF' with FA-18C; I enabled SSAA under Option>System...after this aircraft has no afterburner flame with throttle at maximum. Problem is if I set SSAA to OFF there is still no afterburner. However if I then create binding for 'cycle afterburner detent-ON/OFF' I can then have afterburner flame if I cycle to ON using this Control binding. Looks like enabling SSAA disables the 'enable afterburner' in the Special Options for F18 for users with throttle hardware without an afterburner detent. Question: Is this normal behaviour or a bug that enabling SSAA ON causes; and persists even if SSAA OFF? Anyway I like that I have a choice to have or not have afterburner as afterburner really guzzles fuel like crazy. Gary -
For Andoodle No...you do not use the usual updater process to go from DCS World 1.5.8 to the Stable version of DCS World 2.5 when it is released down track. Instead download the installer for DCS World 2.5 final/stable. when it is available from: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/ When you download and run the installer it will ask you if you wish to copy some of your data from 1.5.8 to 2.5 so as to make the download process smaller. This will include modules, saved data such as input configuration etc. You will also have the opportunity to decide which drive you want to install 2.5 to. Also it will ask if you wish to delete (uninstall) 1.5.8

For Python Yes 2.5 Beta will update to the 2.5 Final stable release when it becomes available up ahead sometime. Myself I am still running 2.2 Open Alpha and will update to the 2.5 Final stable release when it becomes available so as to avoid the hassle of bugs and issues with 2.5 Beta which DCS are currently working on to ensure 2.5 Final is as stable as possible.
-
Want to know when I run the 2.5 Beta/Final installer WILL IT GIVE ME A CHOICE AS TO WHICH HARD DRIVE I WANT TO INSTALL IT TO?? My current 2.2 Open Alpha is on my C drive; but I want DCS World 2.5 Final to be on a separate SSD; not my current C drive.
-
Will it also copy over all my installed modules from 2.2 to 2.5 Final MY SUPPORT QUESTION TO DCS INFORMATION: Only have DCS World 2.2 Open Alpha installed and will do big update to DCS World 2.5 Final after it is released. Am aware that installer will copy over some files from 2.2 which will include my Nevada and Normandy maps, as well as: C:\Users\Gary\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha content. PLEASE UNDERSTAND I did a fresh install of 2.2 open alpha some time ago to a new SSD and have not changed drive letters or copied install to another drive or anything like that, so my registry entries should match the game location correctly. QUESTION: Will it also copy OVER ALL MY INSTALLED MODULES from 2.2 to 2.5 Final ?? DCS SUPPORT REPLY Scott Newnham14-02-2018 23:47:30Quote Hi when you update dcs 2.5 will search for other DCS installations and copy some files from them, it will then download the remainder from our update server. DCS 2.5 will ask you if you wish to delete 2.2 or not. If you decide not to delete 2.2 when prompted DCS 2.5 will search for the modules when you install them using the module manager in 2.5 If you decide to delete 2.2 when prompted your modules will be downloaded from our update servers when using the module manager. I hope that helps clear things up for you. Kind regards

VinnieJones a clean install as in not updating from a current version you have of DCS World but installing from the beginning as if there is no previous version. Like you did the very first time you installed DCS World. Save the current open alpha anywhere you want to, as it has data that may be useful in future such as bindings/inputs for aircraft that you may manually copy over to the clean install of 2.5. If you go the way of a separate SSD just for DCS do not copy open alpha to that dedicated SSD. Let it be dedicated just to 2.5 open beta or 2.5 Final when that is released. I am assuming you are installing a new SSD for Windows 10 install and may install 2.5 to it or a dedicated separate SSD...Gary

It will install to a default location on your C drive...however if you want another location on C drive you can change that when the installer prompts you. Best to keep it in the default location as it is the standard location. HOWEVER if you can afford it buy a fast SSD which is dedicated to DCS only that way game will run faster as read/write operations to this drive will only be for the game and not Windows as well. More bandwidth... Go for a SSD at least 256gb or bigger if possible....Samsungs SSDs are great. DCS will grow in size over time with more add ons. 2.5 installer will copy data from previous installations; but as you are installing a new C drive with W10 it will be less problematic to do a clean install of DCS 2.5. A new install of W10 will not have registry entries from previous operating system install. A clean install is more work, bigger download but will be less problems. Save your current DCS.openalpha folder at: C:\Users\Gary\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha as it will contain bindings etc for joystick keyboard etc...you may want to use this later after install so no need to set up from scratch again.

Azrayen you are right..... the LAlt+A does engage autopilot standby which also prevents the Master Caution Light and accompanying beep beep but does not reset trim. I do not think the Mirage has any trim reset in real world plane nor DCS version. If I look hard over either my left or right shoulder in plane to leading edge control surfaces after manually adjusting trim (+,-) LAlt+A makes no change on those leading edge surfaces back to a neutral position...nor does anything else (that I know of). I just adjust those leading edge surfaces manually using trim adjustment and looking out of the window. Rather primitive but gives a sure result. If I use either keyboard or joystick binding for trim those leading edge slats move down or up accordingly so seems like they are trim related. Do u know of an indicator in cockpit showing the +,- travel of those trim surfaces on leading edge? thx...gary

Reply to Azrayen Maybe that's when you do that, that the amber Master Caution comes On ;) BTW you're not "enabling" the limiter (it's always enabled); you're setting it to the "heavy load" setting. I don't think it's necessary for landing when you've a light aircraft, and it reduces your maneuverability. Of course, if you don't use trim, it lowers the inconfort... but you shall use trim instead :) G. Yes I understand what you say; but 'I like doing it the harder way' without trim upon landing. The heavy load setting means joystick is less reactive, sensitive, twitchy which helps if you land without set trim and land by balancing joystick and throttle settings. Is my choice. raising the nose should be enough. On the contrary, if you make your approach with the correct AoA, you may need to slightly decrease thrust to ensure touchdown. Do you fly your approach at 14° AoA? G. Yes 14 degrees I use. When I say I increase thrust I do this when plane rear wheels would be just metres from the ground...It increases lift on underside of wing a tiny bit to cushion wheels touching down on airstrip but not enough to have plane take off again. Cushioning would be a good word to use for this action. Throttle increase is slight and requires a delicate change. In fact the NWS should be enabled when still inflight (the first version of Razbam's manual got that wrong, and so did many "tutorials" or guides based upon it. NSW automatically disengages. G. Not true, when mission loads and plane is already airborne the NWS is not engaged. If you select in air no blue light comes on and nor will it come on upon touchdown. Nobody would want it on upon touchdown as it is not intended (tooo sensitive with landing speeds) for use at such speed. Use rudder initially and enable NWS at 50knots or less. However if you take off after landing blue light will go out and come on again next landing so will need to be disabled prior to take off for next landing. G. Am able to consistently land the plane without running out of runway, bouncing off the runway, being off the runway or crash so for me my way of doing things works. Someone using my method without practice will probably get into trouble as it is harder. But I like doing it because it is harder. Something of a challenge and improves motor skill. When I read this post and another post it is clear that users do not have a set in cement way of landing...is variation. Thx for your input Azrayen...Gary

Why worry about when they will release 2.5 final...the longer the better and thus more sorted out. Rushed under pressure from users means more bugs etc...Gary

I recommend: *raising pilots seat with 5 right clicks of mouse *select approach mode on PCA (yellow caution light will come on) - Look at page 50 of Chucks Guide mentioned earlier and video 1/3 on page 51 *enable FBW G-Limiter mode (toggle down) - is just below landing green lights, as this will make joystick input not so sensitive, then reset warning light. *do LCTRL+A so autopilot standby engaged so trim is neutral *always align plane to airstrip a long way out *landing gear down at 230knots or less *touchdown between 150>160knots *do not apply brakes until 100knots or less and do so in a pulse manner...apply for 1second, off for 1 second *just before touchdown increase power slightly to float the plane slightly so soft landing *upon touchdown keep front wheel of the ground for as long as possible so wings act as huge airbrake *if needed use airbrakes too for extra braking as well upon touchdown, if landing on short runway also use landing chute *turn on nose wheel steering under 50knots Remember I do not want any trim upon landing and prefer to balance throttle power with pitch changes of joystick...what I am doing is a combination of Chucks guide page 50, video 1/3 on page 51 of Chuck guide and using LCTRL+A as above. As stated before this method works well for me...I do not think it is the correct way or anything like that but I get the result I want of a smooth landing and no beep beep beep and I have been doing this for a long time. Chuck guide download is at: http://www.mudspike.com/chucks-guides-dcs/ download his manual for M2000C Try this method and maybe you may like it...Gary

Thanks JM1. I checked Registry entry and in my case everything looks correct so things should copy over fine. That should also be true for you Ernestwinslow. Gary

Transition Copying Not Happening for Some Users I have not done any update from my 2.2 Open Alpha to 2.5 Open Beta but will down track update to 2.5 Final after it is released. I installed 2.2 Open Alpha 6 months ago and installed it on a dedicated SSD just for DCS. It has not been transferred from one drive to another and no drive letter changes have happened since that install. Am hoping that when I update to 2.5 Final I will not have any issues with NOT having Saved Games folder, modules and Nevada, Normandy maps copying over to the 2.5 FINAL. Am wondering are the users who experience things not copying also be users who at some point in the past copied DCS installation from one drive location to another or perhaps changed drive lettering resulting in registry problem. Hence this is what is causing things to not copy over as they should. Any ideas anyone or thoughts on this?
