How To Set Up Page File/s DCS World??
gary palmer posted a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Basic info: Intel SSD is my C Drive with Page File set to 20GB, Separate Samsung SSD 850 Pro is dedicated only to DCS World install and currently has no Page File set up on it, GPU has 11GB of GPU RAM, MOBO has 16GB of RAM attached to it. Q1. Am wanting to know is there any gain to be made by setting up another Page File on the Samsung SSD of say 20GB too? Q2. If I did this is it ok to have a Page File of 20GB on both of these drives...is it safe to have two drives with a Page File? Q3. With Windows7 will it use the C Drive page file first before using the one on the Samsung or am I better of just having one page file on the Samsung? How does it prioritise which Page File to use? What is the best way to go about this? Attached is pic of MSI Afterburner monitor window and Windows Task Manager showing memory use when running DCS World. Hope someone has some ideas...thx...GAry -
Performance issues after the latest update
gary palmer replied to 30mikemike's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Hope the quotes above help Oh-Zee. Some seem to think this solves stutter and improves performance but frankly I cannot see any difference using the LAlt+enter thing. I have just used fullscreen within system options for DCS and that causes game to run in borderless windowed mode as explained by Chic which is not true FS mode. My opinion is do not bother with it as has no gain.. I actually find with Vsync on within game and locked 60fps and no LALT+Enter better. I should point out I am using a 60HZ refresh rate monitor so Vsync in game locks the refresh rate within game to my monitors refresh rate. .Gary -

turn off the mirrors...after a lot of testing this one change made the biggest difference for me in eliminating stutter...Gary -

thx Chic. Tried the LALT+ENTER thing and with it activated my fps jump up considerably from usual locked 60fps with Vsync on. With it deactivated fps solid at 60fps with my settings. Quality wise there is no obvious difference ... perhaps slightly less stutter with LALT+ENTER. -

Performance issues after the latest update
gary palmer replied to 30mikemike's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Personally I would like to see much more consolidated bug fixes & everything DCS moved out of alpha and beta to stable final release of DCS and all current modules rather than more modules. Sort of quality rather than quantity thing. Once that is all done which would take big effort and time then continue expanding the game. Gary -

**running w7/64 and using a MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Duke OC 11GB, 16GB RAM on MOBO, CPU is i7 4770 about 2 weeks ago I installed the above card and spent considerable time adjusting NV settings and in game DCS settings...to achieve a result of smooth graphics. After the most recent OB update 2.5.3.23954 I now get stutter without any other change. problem seems worse in F18 particularly when looking fully left or right or rearward at low height in dense areas such as Los Vegas or dense tree areas close to ground. Forward vision or 45degrees off forward axis is not a problem. hope ED take note of this issue though I know stuttering like shimmering has been a long standing issue with DCS World...Gary -
Blurry Regions within Terrain Maps
gary palmer replied to gary palmer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks Knock-Knock. Set Anisotropic Filtering in game to 16X and is a definite improvement. Blurriness now only occurs at high distances and at an equal distance in every direction from aircraft. No more patches of blurriness at closer distances from aircraft. Appreciated...Gary -
**running w7/64 and using a MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Duke OC 11GB, 16GB RAM on MOBO, CPU is i7 4770 **attached are my NVidia settings + DCS System settings image **please look at pics showing blurry regions within red loops Am wondering with my system is this normal? only blurry for longer distances and nearer distances close to the ground are sharp and clear? Am wondering with my settings in use as shown by pics (which are very high) are my expectations graphically speaking too high? Alternatively is this caused by an Nvidia Control Panel Setting or in game settings? My GPU is new and I have not used a card as powerful as this one before. Thanking you. Gary

Within NV Control Panel...Antialiasing -Setting is greyed out and not selectable...however Antialiasing - Transparency is not and available for selection. If I turn it off shimmering increases noticeably if I turn it on shimmering does the opposite so not sure if what you have indicated is true. Am just reporting what I observe here. Mustang regarding use of Maximum pre-rendered frames of 4 does not in my case make game slow or sluggish on my rig. I tried all the possibilities for this component of NV CP and 4 gave me the best result. Thanks all for input is very helpful...gary

Have found the following settings have greatly improved the shimmering issue but not eliminated it. I do not use the Supersampling Anti-aliasing SSAA within the game settings as I find it is very resource hungry and causes stuttering within the game. This is with a powerful GPU (MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Duke OC 11GB). Have found that the with Nvidia Control Panel ... Antialiasing-Transparency set to max setting of 8x (supersample) reduced the problem considerably. Attached are my settings adjusted that gave the best results. Running w7/64. Also is worth mentioning that if you look at promotional videos done by DCS you do not see this problem. These videos are done on super computers and at super high resolutions, so seems to me the more powerful your PC setup the less the problem. Have only just recently gone from a GTX1060 to my current GPU and just doing that alone reduced the problem. A Google search on this issue produces results that span quite a few years ... this is obviously a long standing problem that has a very core issue within design of game itself...but can be minimised. Hope this helps... GaRY.

Was wondering if someone knows how to sort out either a Nvidia graphic setting or a setting within DCS2.5 that causes a shimmering effect with: *ground structures such as a cluster of buildings in the distance, *vertical street lighting poles, *vertical power transmission poles, *on the profile border line of larger buildings With the street lighting poles and power transmission poles it is almost like a pulsing effect up and down the height of these structures. *Also occurs slightly on linear edges of aircraft *Also occurs on water of ocean in distance...makes things look jagged... running w7/64 and using a MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Duke OC 11GB Attached are pics of nvidia settings and game settings am using. Any ideas appreciated....Gary

Yeah W7-64bit...much more stable than Windows 10. End of life for W7-64bit is January 2020; but do not be surprised if Microsoft extend that date. W7-64bit is biggest OS used in China so with their numbers in the picture Microsoft may just extend support for W7 past January 2020. This is what happened to Windows XP...support was extended even further due to sheer numbers of users in China on XP. I shall stick with W7 until my MOBO dies then shall go for W10...hopefully that will be sometime after 2020 and hopefully W10 will be much more sorted out then....we hope.

good ol' 388.71 keeps coming up again and again....will run with it and if any issues come up can try some other suggestions. thanks for input everybody but I am really wanting input from users of Windows7-64bit not users of a 1080Ti with Windows10-64 bit...that is a substantial difference in configuration. glad to hear that Nvidia have listened and allowed GF Experience to be deselected upon install of latest drivers. it is troublesome software and i like to avoid it...Gary

Hope someone can help me with advice as to best/stable Nvidia Driver for GTX 1080Ti with Windows7-64bit. I have heard that Nvidia driver version 391.24 is pretty good but need more choices. Also can anyone tell me is Geforce Experience software deselectable with latest drivers in the 400 series version range. I hate this software as it is very problematic so when I install a driver I deselect it and do a custom install without it. I heard somewhere that the very latest drivers do not give you a choice upon install to get rid of Geforce Experience...it is mandatory. Is this true?

About to obtain GPU which is MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Duke OC 11GB which I will run on Windows7-64bit with 16GB Kingston HyperX Genesis RAM + 16Gb SSD page file. DCS is on a dedicated Samsung 850Pro. Running Asus Z87C MOBO. Does anyone have a similar rig; and can tell me what is best Nvidia graphic Driver running DCS with this setup? Am aware not all graphic drivers work equally well with DCS. Thanks Gary

DCS last Update: Big problem !!!
gary palmer replied to FistofZen's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
How to backup bindings in future. In future when this is all sorted out does it mean if user wishes to backup input/bindings that are user's custom bindings then that will be the folder on right side of pic attached...for example: S:\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Input\FA-18C\joystick? So regular backup say of the 'aircraft' folder for all modules on a regular basis would be effective as backup. Or will I still do backups of my custom bindings by backup of the folder on left side of pic attached...for example: C:\Users\Gary\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\Input\FA-18C_hornet\joystick? This is what I have done in past. Am I correct in my understanding that any customs input/bindings are always in the Saved games folder not the program folder, and this will remain the same with this new bindings situation and DCS into the future? Bit confused as files called 'diff.lua' exist at both folder locations...help! Thanking you...Gary -
Preventing NWS Automatically Being Enabled Upon Touchdown, Landing
gary palmer replied to gary palmer's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
F18 has no gain feature, NWS come on when front wheel touches down and turns off when front wheel comes off the ground upon take off ... is all automatic unless pilot turns off NWS upon touchdown manually... -
Preventing NWS Automatically Being Enabled Upon Touchdown, Landing
gary palmer replied to gary palmer's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Thanks Raelis....with DCS F18 is no gain feature according to speed of travel ...is off, on normal rate or hi rate. NWS will turn off automatically when taking off once front wheel comes off the tarmac....gary -
Preventing NWS Automatically Being Enabled Upon Touchdown, Landing
gary palmer replied to gary palmer's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
thx all for your input... I have adjusted rudder deadzone from a 4 to an 8 and is much less sensitive for NWS upon touchdown. No left right oscillation. with HI NWS if you enable it; and even see the words HI NWS on HUD; it will not work at high rate of turn (which I believe is about 75 degrees of turn) unless aircraft is moving at a very low speed...needs to be below a specific minimum speed of aircraft travel before HI NWS happens. hope that helps...Gary -
when front wheel touches down on runway the NWS comes on automatically. I do not like this as it is tooo sensitive at touchdown where aircraft is still moving at a higher speed. Is there anything I can do to ensure it does not come on automatically upon touchdown, so that I can enable it when aircraft is moving much slower manually? Thx...Gary

ghost velocity vector when HUD is caged is important for runway landing so you land ON the runway. HUD is influenced by crosswinds and the Ghost velocity vector corrects for that. It is not needed when is no cross or shearing winds upon aircraft.
