  1. I can make the Predator lase the moving unit, and the bomb will start homing onto a location where the target was, at some point. The bomb always impacts behind the target. Have you managed to score a direct GBU hit with the help of a Predator?
  2. Hi, Has anyone managed to hit a moving vehicle with a GBU-12, with a JTAC/AFAC assisting in lasing? It seems my GBUs sort of find the target (fins moving and flight path altered), but home in on a position from which the target is long gone when the bomb impacts. I'd love to hear about your experiences.
  3. Wrench, awesome work. Great tool! A big thank you!!!
  4. Thanks Toutenglisse. I'll check again with afterburner.
  5. Hi, I've been playing DCS for a while with this: Asus Z77 Motherboard i5 3570K 24 GB DDR3 1 SSD for Windows, one SSD for DCS and X-Plane Recently upgraded to a GTX 1080Ti. I play in 1080p and Vsync activated (60hz, 23" office monitor), no VR. My CPU has been turbo boosted @ 4.4Ghz for a while, without any issue (but no overclock, voltage stuff, etc.) I've been usually satisified with my framerates, low 50s minimum (Caucasus and Vegas with max details except for depth of field), flying mostly solo missions (choppers and jets) However, now that more complex maps are here or on the way, I feel I need a boost in FPS and I believe the CPU is bottlenecking the 1080Ti. 35-40 FPS in some simple Caucasus F-18 missions or above Dubai is not a game breaker yet, but frustration is building up. My objective is to play at 60 FPS at all time (meaning even above highly detailed locations), in 1080p for now, and in 1440 next year. Would overclocking the 4 cores of my venerable i5 be helpful (I suspect not)? Or should I upgrade the whole system with an i7 9700K/Z390/DDR4 to feed the 1080Ti to the max? Would it improve my minimum FPS noticably? I read conflicting posts in the forum. Some said CPU upgrades of that magnitude have not yielded any big performance boost for them, while someone said it was day and night. Thanks in advance for your wisdom!
  6. Thanks, Baltic. No biggie, the mission was easy enough, but that was strange. I don't have my trackIR these days, so I rely a lot on customized snap views and this mission threw me off! :)
  7. Hi, I have troubles with my snap views. They work on missions 1, 2, and 3, but no joy on mission 4 (ILS training). The snap views revert to default only in this mission. I also tried mission 5 and they work correctly. Is there something I can do or is the mission designed that way?
  8. Hi, It seems the bind for the anti-skid switch and switch cover is not present. Am I mistaken?
  9. Great speed management, Iron! It looks fun, I'll give it a try. Regarding my landing speed, I agree with you. 8° of AoA works well too. I just know that if I go above 8, I tend to mess up my flare and end up touching too hard, or over-correcting with thrust and ballooning over the runway. I found 7-8° of AoA to be the sweet spot to smoothly reduce my descent rate to 1m/s at an acceptable landing speed.
  10. Darkfire, Esb, Thank you for your tips! They all work great and are now part of my landing routines. I feel so comfortable landing the flanker that I made a couple of tutorials for a French audience: If you could tell me what I could do better, I'd much obliged!
Su-27 : F-15C : A-10A :
  12. Yes, the issue is annoying. Using the gun also works on the mortar.
  13. Thanks DarkFire! I just saw your reply. I did a lot of experimenting, and I now have no trouble landing (at least with the ILS). The way I do it is that I intercept the glideslope at 400 KMH at 1000M like you said, extend gear and flaps, adjust trim and throttle to achieve an AoA of 7° (I come from the F-15...) Once I have the "right" AoA (which roughly gives me a speed of 280-300), I manage the rate of descent mostly with the throttle only, to bring and maintain my aircraft datum on the ILS indicator on the HUD. At 30M AGL, I start flaring with the same amount of thrust, and if done correctly, my rate of descent is now 1M/S. 5-8M AGL, I extend the airbrake (which takes quite some time to fully extend), which brings my speed and altitude down. I compensate with a higher pitch, but touchdown always occurs at 1M/S. Throttles to idle, and aerobrake or dragchute under 280 KMH, depending on the runway length. What I can't manage to do consistently is the visual landing. Staying on the glideslope without the Russian ILS or pitch scale we have on Western aircraft is a real challenge to me. What visual cues can I use to stay on the 3° glide? Regarding the tires, yes, they are now super strong! They used to blow up quite easily until recently, especially when I was trying landing with a full load for fun. :pilotfly:
  14. Ah, I found it. It's in the Flaming Cliffs folder. But it's still lacking in the landing procedure department. There is no talk about the flare, when to deploy/release the drag chute...
  15. Is there an updated/final manual for the Su-27?
  16. Thanks, it's good to know! Will strike that item off my flanker check list...
  17. Hi, During the Flanker cold start training mission, the instructors says that we should let at least 3 minutes elapse between turning the electrical power on and actually moving the plane, so that the "gyro of the HSI can align". As during these three minutes I don't see any needle moving on the HSI, I was wondering if the instructions are still valid, at least in-game.
  18. Hi, I'm not sure how the lock terrain view command works. When I press it in the A-10A, sometimes the command works (my view centers on the point I was looking at, with a green cross), and sometimes it doesn't. It seems it doesn't work in the Su-27. I have yet to understand why. Maybe somebody could shed some light on how that command is supposed to work and what conditions need to be met. By the way, I use TrackIR. But I still like to use the lock terrain view command to keep an eye on a target or specific area as I find it more convenient than moving my TrackIR-equipped head and having eyes do the scanning while in an off centered position in respect to the monitor.
  19. Yeah I know. "Every landing you can get out of in one piece is a good landing". But I'm a perfectionist, and I'm always eager to learn how things are done right and understand why. By the way, cool cross winds landing. I'm not there yet :pilotfly:
  20. Thanks. Yes, the trim. That's actually what I'm trying to do with every plane. Pitch controlled with trim to achieve a certain AoA, and then descent rate controlled with throttles. It works great with the F-15 and the A-10, and it seems to work with the Flanker, but I still have trouble with the Su-25. Practice, practice, practice! By the way, does anyone know if it's possible to reduce the sensitivity of trim?
  21. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. What do you think? Su-27- Visual Landing 2.trk
  22. Great stuff Ironhand! I noticed the flare was a bit early. Maybe a bit more thrust to reduce the rate of descent would have landed you right on the threshold? I'll follow your recommendations and practice as soon as possible. Thank you.
  23. Thanks guys. MVS, you're right, practice is key. It took me a while to master VFR landings with Western aircraft in DCS. I understand the FPM is just a visual aid, and should not replace our visual sense. I used to land an old Cessna Skyhawk just fine, but it's also because I knew the beast. It's just that it feels strange flying a jet without an FPM now (been using it since the late 80's in earlier "sims"). I tried to watch YouTube videos about landing with the Su-25T, but a lot of them were half-baked unaligned landings with wide variations of sink rates punctuated by "Hooray, see, I didn't die so I'm good!". The video recommended by Kunz has been however helpful and I'll keep practicing my visual references and learning proper descent rates and speed. Thanks again.
  24. Hi pilots, I've been become quite proficient at landing the A-10A & C, the F-15 and the Mirage 2000. My approaches are based on respective ideal AoA for landing. I've been recently playing with the Su-25T and Su-27 and manage to land them thanks to their version of ILS. However, it's rarely pretty, and I'd like to know the proper procedure for landing these birds that relies on AoA, not speeds (which varies according to weight). The absence of the FPM is also disturbing. Is there a way to overcome that obstacle? Thanks!
  25. Yes, I have the same problems with the trees since the 1.5.1. Can't tell about the longer waiting times though.
