  1. Overhead Break Landings Carrier Landings Straight-in Landings
  2. Compared to the F-16, the JF-17 feels super easy to land. Stable on approach, steady on the runway after touchdown, and of course super braking capability thanks to the drag chute.
  3. I've tried to find skins in the user files section of the DCS website, but the aircraft category is not even there yet. Where can we download alternative skins such as the PAF's?
  4. Thanks. My research have not yielded anything conclusive either. How frustrating! On this video, we can at least see a Flanker breaking over the runway, but not much else in terms of pattern.
  5. Thank you. But after trying 50 times the same approach, no, I wasn't going to check if my gear down indicator was turned on. Anyway, experience in-game tells me the gear is down and locked 100% of the times I hear the mechanism. :) IRL, USAF fighter pilots also lower the gear first. Once they confirm three greens, they drop flaps. They then check the flaps have not extended asymmetrically and if all is OK, consider the plane ready for landing. Anyway, my initial question was more about the break maneuver itself, especially speed, altitude, spacing between flights, when to initiate break and final, aim point, etc.
  6. I'm continuing my video series of overhead break landings. I just completed what I think is a decent landing with the Mig-29, but it just occurred to me that the Russian break procedure might be somewhat different that standard Western ones. Does anyone have any info on this?
  7. So has anyone found a logical explanation to the seemingly reverse ground effect for the Mig-29, or is it a bug?
  8. Thanks!
  9. Sure, if the landing is super smooth. Still, it's a lot of stress, and they probably had to advance the C or D check after that. And in DCS, there is not persistent damage, our planes are always brand new ;)
  10. In the break! :)
  11. You can land anything at maximum take-off weight in-game and still avoid damaging your plane. It doesn't feel right, but it's the way it is for now in DCS.
  12. Shake it baby!
  13. This is a tutorial for landing the F-15 with the standard overhead break / maneuver. It remains somewhat relevant for other aircraft types such as the F-16. The second video is a more recent demonstration.
  14.
  15. Ok, thanks!
  16. Now that the old countermeasures box is gone, how do we know how many flares and chaff remain onboard?
  17. I also love the overhead maneuver! The shorter the downwind leg is, the better! :)
  18. OK thanks, conserving ammo makes sense if there is only one target. But I believe other units should still track the target and not remain on stand by. Once the lead vehicle is out of missile, the next launcher should be able to reengage faster.
  19. Thanks for the pointers. I finally managed to be engaged. As Fri13 mentioned, it seems 1,000 meters is one of the triggers: https://youtu.be/62w3k4BEvrs Still, it doesn't explain why only one vehicle was tracking me. The other 5 were doing nothing. Is it normal behavior (economy of force?) And I still can't collide with the SA-9s. That's clearly a bug.
  20. https://youtu.be/SRt4ZykBPWQ You can see on the video what the problem is: - The SA-9s don't track me. - They don't fire even when I'm in range - They are only made of textures. As a famous president would say: "No collision!" - The SA-13s are doing their job under the exact same conditions.
  21. Hi, It seems to me that SA-9 units do not track or engage me when I fly close to them (less than a mile) at low altitude (less than 3000 feet). This happens with or without ROE and Alarm state, and Skill set to excellent. I've tried flying the Mirage and the Huey, with the same result. And yes, the SAM group and I are not on the same side. I can also ram the SA-9 vehicle in the Huey and no collision would happen. The turret would just enter my cockpit. Doing this repeatedly starts a fire in the vehicle and it gets destroyed without my Huey taking any damage. This doesn't happen if I replace the SA-9 by a SA-13 (this one definitely tries to kill me as soon as enter the WEZ). I repaired my Open Beta installation. To no avail. Has anyone faced the same problem?
  22. Ok, that's what I feared. Thanks!
  23. Hi, How do I locate an Il-78M without a TACAN and on-board radar? I'd like not to use the F10 map.
  24. Good to know. I dont feel it with the Mirage. Or I have an incorrect expectation of what ground effect should be with a jet.
  25. Just checked in-game. The difference is indeed small, about 2-3%. I probably mistook some of the extra noise generated by the air brake out for engine power noise.
