Clarify lately? Belive 1.5.3 was the patch that changed the view distance option so everything is rendered much much further away. You can go back to the old settings by using these .luas https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2685487&postcount=36

The anticipation of waiting for a new chip to arrive and check how fast it runs is part of the experiance of upgrading a pc for me! Sure buying from a binning company might make more sense as you will pay for what you get but my inner gambling addict always persuades me to go for a plain boxed chip hoping I will win the silicon lottery :P

The single thread performance table should be more useful if main application is DCS? http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

Yeah, highly recommended for any Huey fan! Does the speed gauge in the Huey even go up to 155kt? Think it's limited to 140kt, no? Guess the quoted 155kt would be possible with a fair tailwind if he's talking about ground speed but that should also be possible in DCS ?
-
Robert Mason references huey airspeed many times in chickenhawk and but never as high as 155kt which is way past vne,I think he would have mentioned it if it was possible. https://books.google.se/books?id=kYPC4HqsCLwC&pg=PA102&lpg=PA102&dq=chickenhawk+speed+dive&source=bl&ots=p6QXQPkbLi&sig=mTG6DLjXEeHB37RGNYOnf2wswT8&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwitxuyyzObOAhXMEiwKHZaFDVkQ6AEIPTAK#v=snippet&q=Knots&f=false

I see that this pdf was posted a year ago by Belsimtek and I was wondering if we can still can expect the Huey simulation to get further updates? [ame]http://www.belsimtek.com/upload/docs/development-tasks.pdf[/ame]

Automatic startup - right engine failing to start ?
Penshoon replied to tob.s's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Related to this I guess? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=168228 Was happening on Nevada map before for me so might be an altitude problem? The sequence fails because it moves the right fuel shutoff valve to open too soon (below 2000rpm)? -
Patent issue I believe, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immersion_v._Sony

The 970 might not be your bottleneck in DCS with VR anyway so I would wait for the rift to arrive and check how it runs first. You will be able to crank up the AA & pixel density more with a gtx 1080 compared to a gtx 1070 as it's faster but you pay a premium for that extra bump graphical horsepower for only a slight increase in "eye candy". You will definitely not gain any better performance (maximum potential fps) with a 1080 compared to a 1070 in DCS as they both will be bottlenecked by your cpu. VR in DCS is very demanding on the CPU. [ame= ] [/ame]

Basically settings that majorly effect cpu is visibility range and shadows, lowering those will ease your cpu workload. Trees render distance affect cpu too as they cast shadows but if you get Mustangs no tree shadows mod then you can increase that setting without significant cpu workload impact.
-
Just check what pc part is limiting your performance before you buy new hardware. The gtx 1080 won't be able to draw frames faster if it's already waiting for your cpu to finish calculating what to draw in the scene. Just download any gpu monitoring application and check gpu usage while ingame, if less than 100% then you won't get higher fps with a faster gpu since you aren't gpu bottlenecked. Only thing you will gain then with better gpu is being able to make the scene prettier with more AA & resolution/pixel density, you should increase those settings until you reach ~90% gpu usage for best usage of your hardware imo.

Thanks, can't say I managed too well on my first few attempts, hard to keep up the speed with the elevation changes, good fun.

Thanks for sharing the mission, here is my best attempt.

1080 vs 980ti for WQHD(2560x1440)
Penshoon replied to KansasCS's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Before yesterday I used a 780ti and had no problem staying above 60fps all maxed except vis. range on ultra @4xmsaa@1440p over vegas. It sounds like you are cpu bottlenecked already with your 980ti,what cpu do you have? With the new gtx 1080 I run stable 100-144fps@8xmsaa@1440p with about 70% gpu utilization on the 4790K@4,7Ghz. -
The sequence fails because it moves the right fuel shutoff valve to open too soon (below 2000rpm) If you are quick you can manually close the valve & press en engine start button again for another attempt & opening the valve only after it passes 2000rpm. If you aren't quick enough the sequence shuts the APU off before the right engine is running self sustaining. Then you have to start the APU again and do it all over again. :)

Fun course though a bit confusing a the end, might have missed a gate or two.

Warthog vs MS FFB2 - new stick advice

I too bought my msffb2 from Mr Dalkowski a few years ago (2013), no problem what so ever and works just as good as new. -
Warthog vs MS FFB2 - new stick advice
Penshoon replied to Reflected's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I bought the Warthog hotas but barely use it tbh, missed FFB too much. If you want the best precision the warthog might be better but FFB is just way more immersive & fun for me (using G940 stick now & MSFFB2 before). I use the throttle next to my main x55 for some extra buttons & axes but it lacked a good easy to use zoom slider and the buttons on the base only work good in the a-10 unless you edit a lot of input files for each module. I wouldn't recommend the x55 either, it's slowly dying with spiking axis and buttons that stop working. VKB had a cheap but nice looking throttle on their store before but can't find it anymore :( -
Force trim adds a fine pressure gradient for more feel and in the sim this helps keeping it stable as you lack the g forces that would help you control the input irl. But even without any force trim the cyclic still should have a "feel" irl from mechanical friction and the damping from the hydralic system that a ffb device can simulate. For active manouvering a sloppy cyclic is great as you don't really need fine control but for hovering or slow flight the trim reference is a huge help for me atleast. Keeping the stick deflected from the trimmed position shouldn't require much force at all compared to a sloppy stick as the hydralic system should be light but having a reference to move the input around makes it less fatiguing in long flights. Thats what my limited research in huey flight has told me atleast.

Have you checked the hear like in helmet option?
-
That is only true if you use DCS engine to supply forces but if you use simFFB you can add as much curves as you like and have the ffb trim match stick position. For helicopters I recommend trying simFFB application http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2419366&postcount=152 In windows game controller setting I use 100% overall effects-, 80% spring-, 80% dampening strength & disabled centering spring. In simFFB I'm not totally sure but approx. 65% for spring, 80% damper & 80% friction. That feels pretty good for me, stick always have some "weight" to it that helps dampening stick movements when holding down trim button. When flying trimmed there's just enough centering force to feel where it is trimmed while also allowing me to manoeuvre outside the trimmed position without having to add much force on the stick. Also make sure you have the updated firmware from Logitech (1.42) that removed hysteresis on X & Y axis and dialed down the center slop.

Does a FFB controller make a HUGE difference ?...
Penshoon replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Thanks for replying! Gonna see if I can get my hand on one, sounds like an improvement. I liked the buttkicker but unfortunately the neighbors on the floor below started complaining about the "bassy" noise in the evenings... so I had to shelve it. The gametrix design seems to transfer the effects to your body rather than your seat, right? -

Anyone know how the Gametrix seats compares to something like the buttkicker gamer 2? Better effects? Is it controlled by sound or does it get input directly from the game? Is it only rumble/vibrate or does it give you forces by pressure as well?
