So I did a new Windows 10 Installation. Unfortunately it did not help for my game freeze problem. Windows 10 Installation from USB drive. Selected clean new Windows Installation, not keeping any of my data or apps. Before Installation; - Disconnected SATA cable and power to unnecessary drives (2nd SSD, HDD + Optical drive) BIOS; - Load optimized Defaults (no OC, no XMP profiles) - Disable onboard Audio - Disable Intel Hyper Threading During Installation; - used my Microsoft online account for user. - no PIN - no MS cloud services - no Cortina - all privacy Options set to off. After Installation; - Intel Chipset Driver (downloaded from Intel.com) - Intel Management Engine Driver (downloaded from MSI.com for my MB) - Samsung_NVM_Express_Driver_2.3 from samsung.com for my M.2 960 EVO SSD - nVidia 388.31 Drivers (only display driver & physics. No 3D, audio or nVidia Experience) - installing TurtleBeach Z300 audio drivers - LAN; KillerPerformanceSuite_1.5.1618 from killernetworking.com - TrackIR_5.4.2 - run Windows updates (incl. 1709) until it finds nothing else. - Logged in to XBox App to turn off DVR. - Windows update settings, changed active hours and disabled downloads from other PCs. - Windows power plan to high Performance with additionally USB selective suspend disabled and PCI express link state power management set Off. - nVidia Control Panel 3D Settings left to default, except set Power Management Mode to Prefer maximum performance. Downloaded DCS World 2.1 Early Access and let it install DCS 2.1 Started download of Normandy map, WWII asset pack and the four WWII planes from DCS module manager. Activated the modules, set in game graphics settings and started Bf109 Normandy freeflight single player mission. Paused the mission to set the controls. Had Saitek X52 Pro, MFG rudder pedals and Saitek Throttle Quadrant connected to PC. Removed any double axis bindings, set slight curvature for Pitch, Roll and Rudder. Set couple of Buttons on throttle for View Zoom In / Out. Flew low level aerobatics with looking arround using trackir. Game freeze in about 10 minutes.

Thanks for the support:thumbup: Do not neglect you Kids due to some random noob in interwebs having DCS trouble :smilewink: Just getting Win10 installation media setup here; Additionally I'm planning following; - Intel Chipset driver, directly from intel.com Intel Chipset Device Software Version: 10.1.1.42 - Intel Management Engine Driver Version 11.0.4.1186 from msi.com (for my mobo w Z97 chipset). Was not sure if a newer version from intel.com is ok. - Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver from intel.com 15.8.1.100 - Samsung_NVM_Express_Driver_2.3 from samsung.com for my M.2 960 EVO SSD - nVidia 388.31-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql (planning only display driver & physics. No 3D, audio or nVidia Experience) - Onboard audio disabled, installing TurtleBeach Z300 audio drivers - LAN; KillerPerformanceSuite_1.5.1618 from killernetworking.com - TrackIR_5.4.2 - Disconnect all my other SATA devices - Windows installation to wipe the whole drive (new partitioning) - Download DCS + Normandy completely new - go fly and see if it still freezes Q about Xbox DVR; Never used it, never started win10 XBox app. Have previously disabled it from registry according to instructions here; https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6239-DZCB-8600#appreg Is that a legit way or is there a better way to disable XBox DVR??

Hi, is there a recommended Windows 10 installation and setup procedure for DCS available somewhere??? Since the release of Normandy DCS 2.1 I'm suffering from a quite annoying game freeze problem on my PC and despite of all efforts, I'm not able to get it resolved. More in; https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=189729 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3301236 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188804 anyhow, I have been several times flying together with other people in TeamSpeak and have experience my game freeze problem where as other people have not. I have ordered i7-8700K from amazon.de on 2nd of November and I'm concerned that they might actually deliver it before christmas and I would end up spending ~900 bucks on a PC upgrade that I think I really do not need. New motherboard and some DDR4 to go with the i7-8700K. So, I would be more than willing to spend some more time trying to sort out game freeze I'm having. I have seen some "how to optimize windows 10 for gaming" articles on the interwebs, but these are partly old and often involve regedits and disabling services that are viewed as not required for generic gaming. I am not 100% sure on how relevant these are for DCS. So, is there a recommended Windows 10 installation and setup guide for DCS 2 available somewhere????

[UNABLE TO REPRODUCE] texture bug
RedShoes replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have a reproduciable funny texture or rendering problem of couple of map tiles. Close, just north of Caen, at this map location dcs_updater repair does not help Do other people see the same fuzzy map tiles, that do not render properly at that location? Bf-109 Normandy instant action free fly mission starts pretty close to that location. -
[REPORTED]WW2 multiplayer tracer bug?
RedShoes replied to Bounder's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Thanks Bignewy, It would be nice to hear any update on this. If I can correctly remember this tracer issue was on 1.5 release version before Normandy 2.1 launch and there was some kind of resolution, at least to the issue as it was experienced on Burning Skies server. Could it be the case that it was somehow resolved in 1.5.x release, but something similar is still left in in the 2.1.1 alpha SW? Anyhow, I'm seeing the same error messages in the log sometimes as I experience stutter on Normandy map as I reported here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=189729&page=11 -

Has this been fixed already? I'm having occasional stutter and seeing following in my log as the stutter occurs; 00249.988 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_green.edm.json. 00250.028 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_white.edm.json. 00307.229 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_yellow.edm.json. 00385.163 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_red.edm.json. i.e. very similar as reported here in this issue. little googling around resulted finding this reported bug from last February http://https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=183426 Any news for a fix???

I was using program called LogExpert (http://logexpert.codeplex.com/) on my 2nd monitor while online mission on ACG Normandy server. The LogExpert is basically like unix tail, which always shows you the end of the log. This allowed me to play and as I got stutter I could see if there were some dcs.log entries written at the same time to my user\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha\Logs\dcs.log I had once pretty bad stutter as I was approaching a low level dog fight involving a Dora and a Spit; The log showed at this time; 00249.988 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_green.edm.json. 00250.028 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_white.edm.json. 00307.229 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_yellow.edm.json. 00385.163 ERROR VFS: Can't open file //models/tracer_bullet_red.edm.json. I do not have files called like "tracer_bullet_green.edm.json" anywhere on my DCS installation. There are files called like "tracer_bullet_green.edm" in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Bazar\World\Shapes i.e. without the ".json" file name extension! Is this a bug in the ED code? to be trying to read wrong files? or is this a problem with my game installation??? Do other users see this? Do you have these files on your installation? A bigger problem was that I had several 2-5 second game freezes. At this time the dcs.log was appended with the following log entries; 03104.425 DEBUG SOUNDER: create personnel/pilot.lua 03104.425 DEBUG SOUNDER: dofile("CommonAlg.lua") 03104.425 DEBUG SOUNDER: dofile("Tools.lua") 03104.425 DEBUG SOUNDER: created host MAIN_16780038/main, id=219 03104.425 DEBUG SOUNDER: created sounder MAIN_16780038 as 428 05768.052 DEBUG SOUNDER: create personnel/pilot.lua 05768.052 DEBUG SOUNDER: dofile("CommonAlg.lua") 05768.052 DEBUG SOUNDER: dofile("Tools.lua") 05768.052 DEBUG SOUNDER: created host MAIN_16784134/main, id=178 05768.052 DEBUG SOUNDER: created sounder MAIN_16784134 as 457 ...and finally a game completely froze for > 1 minute. I got disconnected from the server and the dcs.log got appended with; 06095.906 DEBUG SOUNDER: create personnel/pilot.lua 06095.906 DEBUG SOUNDER: dofile("CommonAlg.lua") 06095.906 DEBUG SOUNDER: dofile("Tools.lua") 06095.906 DEBUG SOUNDER: created host MAIN_16784390/main, id=187 06095.906 DEBUG SOUNDER: created sounder MAIN_16784390 as 458 06095.913 INFO NET: disconnected from server What is this "SOUNDER"??? What can cause this what looks like being a complete re-initialisation of the sounder MAIN? I'm getting horrible stutter or a complete game freeze as this happens.

Hi eekz and thanks for the nice server! For the past couple of year this has been one of the best, if not the best WW II server to join. Your effort is greatly appreciated! Are you currently collecting stats for “Disconnected in Fight”? I’m still suffering from severe stutter and game freeze problem in DCS 2.1. (more in https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=189729) Yesterday I had 3 times a complete game freeze issue (once it disconnected me from the server after a minute or two, twice I had to kill DCS from the task manager). My current DCS 2.1 online name is "UnstableClient". Would it be possible for you to collect this kind of player disconnect statistics. It would be interested to seeing that on per user and over the whole user base. Something like disconnects per sortie / disconnects per hour of flight. Quite often (but not always) there seems to be stutter introduced to the active players when a new player enters the server and picks a plane. Have you noticed this? Has this been reported to ED? Cheers, RedShoes.

Input Devices Re-Initialisation
RedShoes replied to Dutch Baron's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
When I was having the issue, it also did occur in other games (IL-2 BoS & WarThunder), which used all the USB flight controls I had connected at the time. (TM T.16000m + X-52 throttle + Saitek Throttle Quadrant + MFG Crosswinds + TiR5.0 + keyboard + mouse + USB wireless headset) So, I concluded that my issue was with motherboard HW not supplying enough power to all my USB devices. I had the issue with both PCs I have at home (a i7-3930K build with Asus Asus P9x79 pro MB and a i7-4790K build with MSI Z97 gaming 5 MB). Funny enough, a powered USB hub did not resolve the issue, it was only resolved by a PCI-E USB extension card with 12V from my PC power supply. When the issue occurred, I got the clear "bling - blong" sound notification from windows of USB devices being disconnected and reconnected. Back then I tried to find out if it was any particular USB device causing the problem by removing them one by one, but could not find out. Finally the $25 for the USB PCI-E card was a cheap price to resolve my issue. -
Input Devices Re-Initialisation
RedShoes replied to Dutch Baron's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
@Drakoz Do you connect you devices directly to USB provided by the motherboard? I did have a very similar issue, which was resolved only by using a USB PCI-E expansion card that has a separate power input (12V from 15 pin SATA power connector) directly from the power supply. I used this; https://www.amazon.de/Inateck-3-0-Expansion-Schnittstelle-USB3-0-Ports-einbeziehen/dp/B00FPIMICA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510131341&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+pci+karte+3.0 -

while checking the logs I posted above, I noticed I had SRS installed (did not activate it by actually starting the client though). As ED seems to recommend not running any mods, I removed SRS and tested again. Similar game freeze occured again after some minutes in the game play at Burning Skies server. This time the game did not timeout though, I had to kill DCS from the windows task manager after about 4 minutes game frozen. Logs attached. Logs (7).zip

New DCS 2.1.1 patch version..... same old bug with game freeze :-( DCS/2.1.1.11317 (x86_64; Windows/10.0.15063) New nVidia driver 388.13 Same old game freeze problem! Attached logs and dxdiag. Burning Skies server. Here I took off and just couple of minutes in to the flight the game froze. After a minute or two, I was disconnected from the server. In my case the comments/suggestions from Watermanpc above are valid for reducing micro-stutter, i.e. capping fps reduces micro-stutter. I have experimented a lot and using Riva Turner or v-sync or g-sync to cap the fps does help for micro-stutter. In my case I have defaulted to using g-sync to cap it at 100fps, as I have a 100Hz g-sync monitor. ANYHOW, the micro-stutters are not the problem for me and it does not help at all against the big problem of major stutters and game freeze. :( Just played for about 1.5 hours, both single player instant action missions and online servers. Got 4 complete game freezes within that time. DCS 2.1 is still pretty much unplayable for me :( Logs (6).zip

No, the problem I'm experiencing both on Normandy and NTTR is that DCS game just freezes. The problem feels more prominent, more frequent in Normandy, but I have been playing and testing much more in Normandy than NTTR. Sometimes it shows "Running" in windows task manager, sometimes "Not responding", but I have not got a separate window from Windows OS saying something like "DCS is no longer responding". At least not for the last few weeks. I have seen that with 2.1, but fairly long time ago and even back then not so frequently as just the game freeze, requiring killing DCS from the task manager. I updated to M2 960 EVO about 3 weeks ago just to run a test if it would bring any help to the situation. If you are unlucky, SATA cables can be a problem in PC. But honestly, I can not really say that there would have been much improvement. I had previously 2 x Crucial 250MX SSDs connected to 6Gb/s SATA ports on my MB. One with windows installation, other with the game. Now both windows and the game on Samsung M2 960 EVO. I'd like to think that Windows now boots up marginally faster, perhaps even the game starts and loads the map marginally faster, but I did not notice any real improvement for the stutters and game freeze.

Thanks, I have seen your thread earlier and already tried exact same settings as you are documenting there. Unfortunately no help for me :( I'll give it an another try now with this current DCS 2.1.1 patch version.... I have the same game freeze issue also in NTTR. I purchased NTTR couple of weeks back on sale just to try this out. Unfortunately, no luck. I reported my freeze on "DCS 2.1 hangs up after some minutes of play" thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3256656&postcount=181 My current problem is not really the micro stutters (I do still get small stutters every now and then). The real problem for me is currently the complete game freeze. Occurs both in single player missions or on multiplayer servers. I'll keep on testing and trying out different settings / PC configuration and new nvidia drivers or DCS 2.1 versions as they come available and report if I find anything.

One more note; sometimes when DCS 2.1 freezes it is shown as "not responding" in windows task manager. sometimes it is shown as "running" in the task manager. When the game is frozen, but shown as "running" in the task manager, I still have the yellow cross mouse cursor and it keep moving as I move the mouse....and it still keeps updating the Frame rate counter + service info ("LCtrl+Pause" to enable).about every 4 seconds. I'm attaching 5 screenshots taken in this state. -FPS is always zero - Time is always the same - but some service info parameters for example Frame Time, Update, Main, Simulation and Video mem,.... are changing. no idea what all those parameters mean, but something is still clearly running in DCS game engine and able to display this changing info, but the main graphics engine is not providing new frames to the graphics card. When this game freeze occurs, my graphics card load basically drops to zero. Logs (4).zip

DCS update from today DCS/2.1.1.10527 (x86_64; Windows/10.0.15063) nVidia drivers from couple of days ago 387.92 The game freeze problem still occurring :( I run my little single player Normandy furball mission (attached) 9 times and every time I got a complete game freeze within ~15-20 minutes. Couple of times very fast within just couple of minutes of flying. During testing I changed my setup as follows; - dcs update to 2.1.1.10527...game freeze - DisplayDriverUninstaller and re-install of nVidia drivers 387.92, dcs_updater cleanup, repair and update...game freeze - nvidia max pre-render frames to 4...game freeze - nvidia max pre-render frames back to 1, disable g-synch....game freeze - removed my OC CPU i7-4790K 4.8GHz & gtx1080Ti 2000MHz to defaults. Load MB BIOS Optimal Defaults (+disable intel integrated graphics)....game freeze - enabled g-synch again. Removed and disconnected power to my extra HDD, DVD drive and extra SSD. Now only my Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD connected to my system....game freeze - disconnected TrackIR. Using Joystick hat switch for looking arround....game freeze - disconnected my pedals, throttle quadrant, only MS Sidewinder II FFB stick, keyboard and mouse connected to my PC USB...game freeze earlier I have done among other things; - complete windows re-install - complete DCS 2.1 re-install (incl. downloading) - complete windows and DCS re-install on a different SSD drive - changed my motherboard - tried a different graphics card (Gigabyte GTX980 windforce) instead of my current GTX 1080Ti - flew around only with keyboard and mouse, no USB flight controllers connected to my PC - tried a different monitor (BenQ XL2411z w 1920x1080 resolution) - I tried under-clocking my CPU to 3.8GHz or 3.6 GHz and GPU by 100, 150 or 200MHz. nothing seems to help. This game just keeps freezing on me. Other games incl. DCS 1.5.7 does not have this problem. To me this is some kind of DCS 2.1 game engine / graphics engine freeze. One day last week I run a test where I run DCS in windowed mode 1920x1080. Next to DCS I had Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 running in windowed mode 1280x960. It all fits nicely on my 3440x1440 display. The both of them were running fine. I could play DCS normally and Heaven Benchmark was running on the window next to it....until my typical DCS game freeze occurred. As DCS froze up, the Heaven Benchmark just kept running and now it was getting much better fps as it did not have to share the GPU resources with DCS. That all means to me; it's not my PC, it's DCS 2.1 graphics engine that is the problem. ...but then again, there are people that do not have this game freeze problem. I wish I could find out WTF it is?! ...and get DCS 2.1 running stably also for me. Bf109 BnZ a furball.miz

Jättebra! Nice update! So exited, Is it already the time to start growing my stache now??? ;-) -
controls very sensitive, curves? TMWH MFG?
RedShoes replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Yes, some curves are very much recommended... and as above, some people also prefer some saturation. I can also very much recommend a stick extension, makes it much easier with reasonable curves. I use 18% curvature with ~20 cm stick extension. For practicing take offs, landings, dogfights, aiming,.... enable your control indicators (r-ctrl + enter) and if you can save you game play on a video (nvidia shadowplay or what ever game recording tool) and watch it afterward on areas you though you were having trouble or too sensitive controls. Check the control indicators how much movement you actually had on your virtual stick :joystick: -
Yes, it should work. I’d consider Bazenville with 1650m = 5400ft a typical Normandy airfield, so you should be good on most of the airfields. Some airfields in Normandy could benefit from good old ax and saw action and get some trees very close to runway chopped off. Please consider; - Normandy is the latest map addition. It looks very good. In my view the best we have seen on DCS so far. - It is also quite flat, so no canyon runs or hiding in the mountains. - Being the latest map addition and in Alpha state, it is also the most unstable. Some users are reporting they have absolutely no problems with it and everything runs smooth. Some users (like myself) are not as lucky and have horrible stutter, game freeze and game crash issues with Normandy. Hopefully ED will sort out that soon.

Just took off from Longues-sur-Mer with Mig15, full internal fuel and 2 x FAB100. 4m/s head wind, no problem. Attached couple of measurements.

Thanks for the suggestions  Any good ideas how to test my system stability for DCS 2.1? I have run a whole bunch of generic benchmarks and stress tests including at least; - Intel Extreme Tuning Utility Stress Test over night - couple of hours AIDA64 - couple of hours Prime 95 - Memtest 86 and Windows Memory test - Unigine Heaven, 3DMark Fire Strike and Time spy - Cristal Disk benchmark I actually run XTU Memory Stress test, AIDA64, Unigine Heaven and CristallDiskMark together and they all run fine. Also DCS 1.5.7 runs fine (and IL-2 BoS, WarThunder, Acetto Corsa, GTA 5, DayZ,....) It's unfortunately DCS 2.1 that is giving me gray hair. I typically get a complete game freeze or two in one hour of gameplay. Thanks, perhaps I'll give an another try to reduced preload radius. I have tried it earlier and it did not help. Hell, I've tried complete potato settings w 720p resolution and I can still get the game freeze. I'm currently using settings for Normandy for GTX 1070 thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188477 with some adaptions to my g-sync 3440x1440 monitor. Anyhow, attached is an another log from DCS 2.1.1 Normandy crash; ACCESS_VIOLATION from C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\bin\WorldGeneral.dll Logs, crash log and dxdiag attached During about 4 hours of Burning Skies server this evening, I had at least 4 complete game freezes, countless stutters and this one game crash - No Joy! :( Logs.zip
