@graywo1fg: :) @MadTommy: I used my home PC for hosting a 9 player server (incl. server) for beta testing the mod. I am on a 16MBit down / 1Mbit up DSL line w/o fastpath and the gameplay seemed to be just fine, some people even told me that they experienced very good network performance. As Panzertard said though, you have only limited control over player latency and packet loss anyway, which mainly depend on the client-server distance and general network utilisation. If your dedicated server's hardware has a hard time running Black Shark there are a few things that you can do besides lowering details/resolution, i.e. putting it in F10 map mode or setting an FPS limit. @Kurtz: like graywo1fg said, the ServMan mod features some of these things, i.e. resuming the server after mission start and automatic map rotation that's triggered by a timer. And you can set up subadmins that can control the server remotely using the ingame chat console (not via an external shell though). EDIT: just saw the date of that post

Oh I'm sorry, that is indeed the wrong link I gave you. The one to the download version is here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en

Changing main menu location
Acedy replied to Slick Twitchy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Since the SP menu is a separate process you can change its resolution independently. See here how to do it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=591275 -
loco121, please use only one thread to describe one and the same problem. Thanks. :)
-

Do you mean the link on the main site? It seems that it is self-referring. You can use the link from the e-shop though: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=1322&scr=shop&lang=en&cat_sid=1 BTW, he is talking about Black Shark, I moved the thread here.

Enter the serial here: http://proactive.star-force.com/2.0/activate.php and press "Serial Number Parameters" :)
-
Sorry, in order to save your activation you should have deactivated BS before making any hardware changes, as explained in the quick start manual.
-
Make sure that you have set the correct operating system locale according to your version of Black Shark. I.e. if you are using the German BS version your OS language has to be set to German/DE.
-
@1: According to the license you are not allowed to run BS on more than one PC at the same time. So if you want to host a dedicated server and connect from your home PC, you would need two licenses.

>>> ServMan Server Management Mod v2 for DCS:BS v1.0.1 Released! <<<
Acedy replied to Acedy's topic in Multiplayer
Hi Quirk!, thanks for the suggestion, and yes, this feature is possible and I have added it to my wishlist. The issues related to name banning are related only to automatic banning, but I don't see any problems if the server host specifies unwanted usernames manually. I don't have time to work on ServMan right now, but I am planning an update after the patch has been released. I cannot promise 100% though that I will add a time delay before somebody gets kicked (you should see a message in the lobby why you have been kicked, but this does not work atm), however the whole event management of ServMan is going to be revised so I might as well add something like this. We'll see... :) -
I just finished reading this book a few days ago and I have to say that it was hard to put it down, so I wanted to recommend it to anyone who is interested in Vietnam era air combat history and/or special/covert operations literature, especially if you also like to read about the historical and political background. It's about clandestine US forward air controllers, callsign "Raven", who were a part of the "secret war" in Laos that took place simultaneously to the conflict in Vietnam. The Kingdom of Laos was declared independent in the 50s after the 1st Indochina War, however North Vietnamese forces and their communist Laotian allies (Pathet Lao) were trying to gain control over Laos, partly as an effort of communist expansion politics, partly as a means of establishing and securing the Ho Chi Minh supply trail to South Vietnam. Since Laos was formally neutral, the US, following their policy of Containment, decided that instead of facing the North Vietnamese/Pathet Lao directly with US ground troops, a paramilitary operation under the lead of the "civilian" CIA and US embassy should support the fighting of local Royal Laotian (RL) troops, indigenous Laotian people, mainly Hmong, and their Thai allies, by delivering weapons, training and funds. Additionally the USAF and CIA airlines like Air America were to provide air support and supply. This is where the Ravens came into play, who were USAF FACs that, after the first half of their tour in Vietnam, could volunteer for a secret program called "Steve Canyon" (named after a comic charachter). Those who did were first transfered to Thailand, where they were formally stripped off their Air Force identities and moved then, as "civilians", to bases into Laos. From here they would fly FAC missions, mainly in Cessna L-19/O-1 Bird Dogs, to guide air strikes by USAF and also Hmong, RL and Thai pilots (who were equipped mainly with T-28 trainers that had been turned into counter-insurgency aircraft) onto targets in Laos. What I like about the book is that it is a real kaleidoscope of the conflict, it does not only tell about the actual missions, but also depicts the various personalities like the Ravens themselves, Hmong/RL pilots and observers like Lee Lue, CIA and US embassy staff, US paramilitaries, RL/Hmong leaders like General Vang Pao who was in charge of the conflict in northern Laos (Robbins, who is a journalist, interviewed alot of these people for the book), and it extensively covers the historical background of the conflict and the political actions and struggles. All of that is interrupted occasionally by an hilarious story. Unfortunately the book seems to be out of print and copies can be quite expensive from what I have seen (I was lucky that I could order a cheap used copy from a bookseller in London), but if you live in North America you may be able to buy it directly from the Ravens' website: http://www.ravens.org/store/store.htm More info about the conflict in Laos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laotian_Civil_War

Happy Birthday Viper, all the best!

Please use this thread to post links to profiles for your HOTAS (X52, Cougar...), TrackIR, TouchBuddy, VAC, Shoot and other I/O related devices/software. It would be nice if you could also add a short description or layout overview of your profile. Please remember to check your links from time to time to make sure that they are still valid. And if you want feedback for your profile, feel free to start a dedicated thread as well and post the link in here, as this sticky is supposed to be a library, no discussion thread. :) Happy simming :pilotfly:

No, A-10C is next, what happens after that is still unclear at the moment.
-
Hehe, I switched sides, and DCS consumes most of my free time now. ;)

Welcome back Bushmaster, and congratulations on your assignment, that's great news. Looks like your hard work finally paid off! Good Luck!

Afaik it's a known bug. The server you were on used my ServMan mod, that's why players got teamkill messages, which is not a feature of vanilla Black Shark. We have had a similar thing happening once during beta testing of the mod, I reported the incident to c0ff, Eagle's networking programmer, who told me that it is a known issue.

In RL you can fire small arms and AAA through the foliage, at least to some degree, and aim at the sound of an aircraft. Not as precise as visual aiming of course, but it is possible. So firing without LOS through trees is not all that unrealistic. ;)
