You do realise that whole thing is just marketing right? Nvidia pays the companies to use their logo so they can sell products, and in many cases the game runs better on ATI based cards which is kind of ironic. Its not just ATI cards that have the problems in games, its more Nvidia actually. But thats just completely random and can happen to anyone on any videocard.
-
Yeah I'd proberly hold off DDR3 until mid-late 2009 when it becomes more mainstream and worthwhile, right now DDR2 is dirt cheap with great speeds
-
Very nice work :) Cant wait to see the skins applied to it
-
Nope, DCS is not optimised for multi-GPU or multi-CPU, not that it needs that power anyway it should run fine on a single card. I'm pretty sure in the next release however there will be support for multi-core CPU's
-
No, it wasnt optimised for Nvidia cards. Il-2 Sturmovik ran equally on ATI and Nvidia cards
-
Yeah depends where you read them from, the reviews I've read say the drivers are pretty much stable now and are scaling well like they should
-
For LockOn my onboard graphics does the job... lol I wouldnt spend hundreds on a new videocard if all your playing is LockOn, rather invest that money into a new CPU instead. The HD4870X2 in many cases is actually faster then 2x GTX280's in SLI, so that statement is incorrect when you say the GTX280 is better once SLI'd. Crossfire scales better then SLI.

Yes there is a widescreen hack for it available here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/Lock_On:_Modern_Air_Combat Or alternatively: http://dev.ezor-web.net/locfg-en/ -
Recovering HD data
stealthtemplates replied to SuperKungFu's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The freezer way works most of the time, heres some steps to recover the data, you should be able to get about ~30 minutes of recovering time: 1) Take the HDD out of the external casing, 2) Wrap tightly with an anti-static bag 3) Make sure everything is perfectly sealed, may also use a cloth around the outside to remove any condensation 4) Place in the freezer overnight then plug it back into the computer, making sure there is no condensation on the power plugs etc. You should be able to do this 2 or 3 times depending on the HDD, there are also some tutorials on google if you search with a more detailed explanation -
I just hope ATI and Nvidia recognize DCS for what it is and put some time into driver development

Chances of a new DCS website?
stealthtemplates replied to stealthtemplates's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
So I'm offering to create a website free of charge for DCS and now all the members are flaming and criticizing me? :\ As I've already stated, its only the front page, nothing more. The December release date was just a wild guess I dont know why you would be quoting me on that... Its not an actual real gaming website rather more of a "template" No I will not be starting a fan site, there are too many fan sites these days to even compete properly. If you check out many sites related to gaming you will see what I mean when I say its outdated. As suggested I could see what I can do with the stylesheet, but I'm not sure if ill be able to properly create a new layout due to the table based design. But whatever, screw it. If all im trying to do is help and im getting flamed at its not worth it... -
Expect a pre-order soon after we have a release date of DCS, since there is no official release date dont expect a pre-order ;)

Chances of a new DCS website?
stealthtemplates replied to stealthtemplates's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Nah stealthtemplates is my older company I used a few years ago. I know it has terrible design and havnt really done anything for ages. (please dont judge me based on that ;) ) I'm currently 18 years old now. This is the type of work im doing now: http://www.stealthtemplates.com/gamersportal/ (note: its only the front page) I'd show a few more websites im working on now but the owners won't allow me until the website is finished published. If I took the time and effort I believe I could really give the DCS website that extra touch. DCS may be mostly user-friendly but it still lacks a modern based design that would reflect the great product that they are releasing. -
Hey, I'm currently looking at creating a new DCS (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/) website for fun in the next coming months before the final launch of DCS to consumers. Mainly because the current one is outdated in terms of design and functionality. I was just wondering if the website is good enough is there much of a chance the owners will be able to use it for the main site? All will be done of free and its more of a hobby / contribution for DCS. I've tried emailing the developers on the site but the email looks to be dead. thanks (pm me if you'd like to see some of my work)

nVidia GT280 and GT260
stealthtemplates replied to thereminqblank's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Nah it doesnt matter if its 2 seperate cards or 2 GPU's on 1 PCB, it still suffers from microstuttering. Both the 9800GX2 and HD3870X2 suffered from this issue. The HD4870X2 has fixed the microstuttering issues however. -

The 9800GX2 suffers from microstuttering, not to mention the heat, power etc. that it produces. Its also nicer to have a single card solution then a dual card when its at a similar price. -

Nope its on average over 10% faster :) You might have been reading some biased reviews. Good thing about the AA is you can max it out and performance is barley effected, in some cases only 1-2fps. Heres a trusted review of the HD4870: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341&p=1 -

stealthtemplates replied to thereminqblank's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well since the HD4870 performs 10%-15% better then the GTX260 you may as well get that, not to mention the superior image quality that ATI cards have. Alternativly the non-reference HD4870 cards will arrive within the month with the "Super RV770" overclocked version of the HD4870 -

I wonder how much faster the A-10 release will be since DCS have got the engine finished, hopefully its not something we need to wait 3 more years for ;)
