PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
MilesD replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The latest firmware allows a change in direction while holding FCU button 3 (mouse wheel scroll), it does not keep the FCU Button 1 or 2 pressed. I think I changed the simultaneous left and right mouse press when I was trying to add a function where pressing multiple FCU buttons would generate a key to map, (like press FCU buttons 1 and 2 together for zoom). I had some conflicts so I ended up disabling that. I think Rogue Squadron was using the Multi-FCU Key Press and was not happy to see it go away. I would like to at least map FCU buttons 1 and 2 pressed together for VR zoom, if pressing left and right mouse press together is not required for anything. Any suggestions in this area would be much appreciated. Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

So you need to press FCU buttons 1 and 2 together (Mouse left and right click together) to uncage the standby ADI. Then once uncaged to press FCU buttons 1 or 2 (mouse left click and right) to manually level out standby ADI. Got it, I hope. It's the same code that I have was working on that currently releases a previous mouse press when a new mouse button is pressed. It should probably not do that anyway. I really like the fact that you don't want to touch your mouse anymore. I will keep you posted on the next update that will include this change. In the interim will this this button uncage the standby ADI, so you don't have to use the mouse. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3339046&postcount=7 Thanks, Miles Edit: What a dumbass I am, we are talking about the Gazelle.- 3421 replies

Hey Mojo, Damn, I started looking into that and got distracted by something shiny. My bad, to many projects going on, and I supposed to be retired. As a recap to be sure I still have down what you would like to be able to do. 1) Set the mouse wheel direction as normal with FCU buttons 1 or 2 2) Hold Left Click with FCU button 1 on one hand, and then mouse wheel move with FCU button 3 on the other hand. I believe I was changing the code not to release the mouse button when pressing FCU button 3, but it was causing a conflict when it was eventually released. Next time I am in the code for an update I will try and finish it. Thanks for reminding me. Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Dutch, The additional part is a charge monitor and is used to monitor and check the batteries while charging. It has many uses outside of PointCTRL, I thought I added a page in the instructions for it, I will have to check. The charge monitor should not cause any problems, but I would unplug it from from your PC and use it once in a while to test your batteries while charging to see when they need to be replaced. Lipos are typically good for 500 charges. Back to your PointCTRL issue. It sounds like it might not have flashed the firmware correctly. I would try to reflash it again, ensuring the black box does not disappear as soon as you hit the spacebar. I usually park myself in discord voice help when I am at my workstation so jump on if you see me, or let me know when you will be on and we can screen share and talk as you update. Sorry for the inconvenience, we will get it sorted. Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Harry, We got you. It's hit or miss with getting a response, so its a good question. I will try and do better. Usually Carol or I just slide the order email to the correct folder for invoicing. Your 7th in line for this group for version 1. Version 2 timeline has slid a bit because I had to do a rework to the proof PCBs and other project commitments. Version 1 invoices for up to #400 will be going out tomorrow. Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Peter, I would check all of your USB connections first. PointCTRL does not like some hubs or extensions. At a 10ft cord, it's getting to its reliable data transfer limit. Sometimes it just takes pressing the white restart/reset button on the HMS. Pressing the white button only, restarts the firmware and does not make any changes. I hope that helps, Let us know how you make out. Miles- 3421 replies

I will just throw 2 more chargers in the box with the Aux buttons at no charge. They should not do that. If you can just PM a pic so I can see what's going on. In the email for the APBs, just write warranty replacement - 2 FCU chargers, so we don't forget. Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Harlikwin, Just like Snake said, We have the Aux Buttons in stock, so just email orders@pointctrl.com, and in the subject line put Order-APBs Include the county being shipped to in the body. I know where your at but Carol may not. I will add that info about APB status and order procedure to the first post. Thanks and take care, Miles- 3421 replies

UPDATE: Now shipping up to 375 of Version 1 Still sorting some unexpected issues with proofing PointCTRL v2, and the new code. It's a completely new design with a different processor, and an onboard charger, so there is a bit more going on. Other than the onboard charger, the only real difference between v1 and v2 is size. The v2 FCU has a slightly smaller battery and form factor. Its can be an issue if you have small hands and skinny fingers, or use any of the grips with a large head. I will let others comment on the comfort and use with those heads. The HMS is smaller and will fit inside the Frunk of the index better, a closer fit on the top of the Pimax, and the Camera wont be covered on the Rift S if you use controllers above your head. The Reverb is a nice fit and form factor as is. I want to thank everyone for your continued patience. We have hired a few people to help with PointCTRL and other projects, so shipping speed should pick up soon. Here are a few pics as a reminder of the differences in size between v1 and v2. Note: The HMS is a bit larger that this mock-up- 3421 replies

Hey Crash, If you have the CV1 the double face tape has to go on the front of the unit. The CV1s top is a material that the tape won't stick to. This pic shows the generic mount on the CV1, The CV1 HMS mount will match the contour of the front of the headset and only require one piece of double face tape. Hope that helps, Miles- 3421 replies

Thanks for the good suggestion Voyager, My intent was to go with the USC port just for the reversibility alone, but unfortunately it has 24 pins that make it very difficult to mount to the PCB, compared to the the Micro USBs 5 Pins. As an alternative you can use a magnetic charger insert, as show in the pics. I will have them available for an option. Thanks for the input, Miles Edit: Of course I just revisited this issue and now I found some USC charging only receptacle with 6 pins. I will have to give it some thought now, because the magnetic chargers for the USC require a bit more to line up. Thanks again for the input.- 3421 replies

Hey Mojo, That's a first. That looks like the original blue charger, a few of the cases came apart so I switched to a different manufacturer. We now include two single black chargers with each kit. If you could email Carol at orders@pointctrl.com, she will send you two of the new ones at no charge. FYI PointCTRL 2.0 has the charger built into the FCU, so you can plug in any micro usb cable. I could not source a quality charger with the optimal output for the onboard lipos, so I went with a on board Lipo charging IC that I could customize. Sorry for the inconvenience. Miles- 3421 replies

UPDATE: Production is rolling again on PointCTRLv1, I am sending out the final invoices for this group. If you get a invoice and want to wait for version 2, just let us know and I will cancel the invoice and move to the "waiting for v2" Group. I should be announcing the "Now Shipping v1" for up to 375 in a few days. If you want to wait for Version 2, just don't respond until I post "Now Shipping v2". Thanks for your patience, I had a few issues with v2 that I have to sort, so we are still probably 30 days out at least. Miles- 3421 replies

MilesD replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Okay, thanks Mr Mojo, I am clear now. I thought you were using button 3 as the mouse. Confirming, with the standard mouse, you hold left and right click and then roll the mouse wheel. With PointCTRL you hold FCU buttons 1 and 2, then scroll with moving FCU. I did an interim change to the code to allow holding multiple FCU buttons to be recognized as a key-press. I thought I just did in in the alfa code. I will check it out, it sounds like I may have made some changes to the stable version when getting rid of that feature. Thanks for pointing it out. Hey Mojo, Interesting, Pressing buttons 1 and 2 together should just hold left and right mouse buttons down. Just so I understand, on the standard mouse you left click and then scroll the mouse wheel for the function you want? And just a note: Most knob rotations in DCS are mapped to left click and hold followed by, mouse move up and down, rotating your wrist is usually not as reliable. If we changed the mouse wheel to left and right mouse movement in the DCS LUAs (if possible) the wrist rotation method would be very accurate. I know its not much of an answer, but I am not sure of the standard mouse interaction required for this specific ADI function in the Gazelle. Hi Mustang, In the discord Chic is using a 65" 4k with TrackIR and PointCTRL. He mounted the camera to a fixed position right above his head. I am working on a 2d specific version for the USAF and comercial sales. Whats up Rouge, I am looking forward to how you, yet again! reconfigure you cockpit this week. Another simple way to increase the functions is with any joystick modifiers you have. I flew for the first time in a long time on Sunday. I also mapped and used the Aux Buttons while playing for the first time. I have my joystick paddle as a modifier so I put all of my admin functions on there. Admin with Paddle Switch Left button bank, chat window toggle - Huey control indicator off, gunners AI panel toggle, Right button bank, center VR - "escape key" through voice attack macro, I could not get esc mapped to another keyboard key in DCS. In Game Left button bank NVGs, Right button bank, Front doors - Rear doors - Voice attack macro to unload troops in CTLD Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Gcom, I will be making 50 of the current PointCTRL v1 kits available to those that do not want to wait. We are still proofing the v2 production boards. When your group is called submit your order and just specify you are waiting for v2. Carol will move you into the "Hold for v2 email folder" and send you an invoice when v2 is ready to ship. Thanks for the question, I am sure others were wondering. Miles- 3421 replies

That's actually a great idea Mr Mojo. I will design and order some new PCBs and offer them as an option for those with the real estate on their HMS. We were talking on the Discord about using Voice Attack macros or Joystick Gremlin to map multiple button holds to other functions, like press any one of the three Aux buttons on each side of the HMS at the same time to eject. I probably already mentioned this, but you can also use any joystick modifiers you may already have to increase the amount of functions for the Aux buttons. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I truly appreciate it, and I am glad you like your Aux Buttons. Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Hammer, DMd you tracking info just in case you didn't check the paypal email. Tou PointCTRL CT is in your state. Good luck, and I'm looking forward to your feedback. Miles PS @everyone. Speaking of feedback, I don't get a lot of feedback here, so if your unhappy or happy with PointCTRL let us all know here in the open forum. As most of you know, I encourage negative feedback, and your suggestions might help others with their own ideas. PointCTRL has only matured because of your assistance through feedback and suggestions. It's been developed for, and with this community. I am okay with positive feedback also:beer:, it may help others decide if PointCTRL is a good fit for them.- 3421 replies

Hey Denis, The link for FireCats list is in my sig below, and it has the "Now Shipping" noted in the chronological listing. We are up to #350 for v1 as noted in my sig. PM FireCat and he will put you on the list. I just received the new boards today for v1 and v2. PointCTRL v1 will start shipping in a few days for those who do wait for v2, which is probably 3 or 4 weeks out. I have enough v1 boards for 50 more kits.
