PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
MilesD replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There have been 3 HMD USB connectors that have detached from the HMS PCB including DDCrash's . I think its because of a poor design (hey wait a minute, that was my design) that did not take into account that pressure could be put on the USB cord end and stress the connector when VR headsets were being put on and taken off. I have been including supports in the kits, but did not make it clear where they should be mounted to limit this from happening. I am redesigning new HMS Mounts, as some of you guys have suggested, that will support the connector to limit this from happening. Here are a few pew pics of the area to put the supporting zip tie mount. I will get some better pics when I have a few minutes.- 3421 replies

Hey Guys, don't forget I have discord on most of the time, and park myself in the Voice Help channel. Please don't hesitate to drop in and ask me any questions. The voice, and screen share make quick work of set-up if your unsure of something. As a bonus, it always great for me to talk to you guys. Hey Jester, I am sending you a PM now.- 3421 replies

Yea, Rocky and I were on screen share and his steam updated, and then he rebooted and the virtual monitors were all disabled, so it looks like steam fixed it not MS.- 3421 replies

Reference the WMR issue: I was setting PointCTRL up with Rocky today, and his Steam updated during our screen-share session. After a reboot, the virtual displays stayed deactivated and to the right. He DMd me later and said that after several reboots the virtual monitors seem to stay deactivated. He thought it may have been tied to the steam update. Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

Thanks for the try Kaltokri, we all appreciate it. It was great to talk with you yesterday. If MS does not fix things soon I will make a firmware change to address this. I should probably make the change anyway so the graphic menu cursor movements are more consistent and not vary with your screen size and aspect ratio. Thanks again Kaltokri, Miles- 3421 replies

Thank you Kaltokri, that looks promising. I checked and Carol put you in the que on the 25th. I got delayed this week for some personal reasons, its always seems to be something. But we are in the production batch now for this group, as soon as the kits are ready for final testing, Carol will send out in the invoices. Sorry for the delay and thanks for your patience, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Harlikwin, I wish I had something, but I'll ask Subsonic in the discord if he has had a chance to come up with anything. I was messing around with macros, but no joy. Has anyone herd of a new Windows update for WMR creating multiple displays? Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

I was hoping they were going to change that. I can probably change the firmware if they don't. I think Subsonic mentioned maybe a batch file to at least automate the task. I wish I had a better answer for you. Miles- 3421 replies

Hey TOYKILLA, I just checked and didn't see an order from you. Did you send an email to Carol orders@pointctrl.com with the format from "how to order" from the first post. If not no big deal, just send the email their, and she will send your invoice right out. Thanks, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Crash, Sorry to hear your having issues, let's move this over to discord, there are lot of procedures that I can refer you to there. The first step would be to get voice assist working outside of DCS. We talk about, and illustrate how to do that on the discord. The reason your not getting the second green light on voice assist is because you are not on the same com port as your HMS. After you are connected to the correct com port you and have 2 green light, you then enter the PointCTRL set-up mode by holding the right button on the HMS. When you are in the set-up mode the third green light should come on and voice assist will be active. While in this mode you should explore the different functions using your FCU to change and enter menu functions. I would then factory reset the HMS and reset voice assist by picking another random port and then select the port that the HMS is attached to. Now go through the process again of entering the set-up mode. when voice assist tells you you are connected and in the set-up mode you can then start DCS and you should still be able to hear voice assist while DCS is running. The order of staring voice assist or DCS doesn't really mater. You can switch between them and the voice assist menu will update and respond without window focus. I hope that helps, but I do strongly recommend you come over to discord for the tech issues, we can can quickly DM you pics as we talk and even do voice and screen share to get you up and running. I would recommend just starting with voice assist alone on the desktop to get familiar with things. You can go through the menus and move the cursors around. Just do a factory reset when your done and ready to calibrate.- 3421 replies

Hey DD, Unfortunately the colors on some of the boards are not standard. I used a standard piggyback back board to get things rolling and they switched things up a bit. I am moving to a dedicated board soon. But to answer you question, if the HMS is plugged in, its running. That is usually the green light. The red light flashes when the HMS is transmitting data (cursor position or mouse button states) to your PC. The left button on the HMS will deactivate the HMS but it stays powered on. When you press the left button on the HMS to deactivate the HMS, the cursor will move to the center of the screen and then off to the upper left corner. It will do the opposite when you reactive it with the same button. A lot of people plug PointCTRL into a switched USB Hub to easily turn it on and off. I hope that helps, Miles- 3421 replies

The Voice Assist Takes you through the steps. Let me know when your going trying it out again, and we will meet on discord and use voice and screen share as you go through the steps. Getting people up and running with their PointCTRLs is what I enjoy the most with this project. Miles- 3421 replies

While ABS 3d printed parts don't have the best fit and finish right off the printer, and do require a lot of post processing time, they are very functional, durable, and allow complex shapes that are difficult to injection mold. That being said, it takes us way to much time to manufacture PointCTRL units, We build almost everything in house, even populating and re-flowing the FCU PCBs. I will be switching to a Low pressure over-moulding injection process soon that will reduce the size of the FCU's, and hopefully reduce manufacturing time. Thanks for the great question. Hi James, If your getting the circle for set-up mode, may have the old firmware, The circle had been replaced, and calibration task separated. Are you using voice assist? You don't need a PHD in ancient hieroglyphics to tell the mode your in anymore. Miles- 3421 replies

Windows update breaking Reverb with PointCTRL. Still working the issue, but now with "Profesional" help, thanks Subsonic, your the man. Los is letting me borrow his Reverb, so hopefully we will have this sorted by the end of the weekend. As a heads up, this will probably delay this groups production and invoices a few days. Thanks for understanding, I am surprised it took a year for Windows to break something. Miles- 3421 replies
