@IronMikeCan we please get an explanation of how HB recorded or created the gun sounds? This would go a long way in helping resolve this dispute. I don't know if @mytai01is right or wrong, but a valid point has been made and everyone else has just made a mockery of the situation.

Ignorance...? If you want to talk about ignorance than I suggest that you read the post again. He states that he has not commented on the gun sound one way or another. Translation...we still don't have confirmation if the gun sound is right or wrong.

After all this back and forth, we still can't get a straight answer...I don't know if the HB Tomcat's gun sound is correct or not, but we can all agree that it sounds nothing like any real life recording of the M61A1. For goodness sake, can we just get an SME to say...yeah, the Tomcat sound is spot on, or it's wrong and being fixed? End of discussion. Is it top secret or something!?

None of the internal sounds in the Tomcat are realistic, as admitted by HB. The sounds have been designed to ultimately provide for user feedback and immersion and "artistic freedom" has been used. I personally trust ED's sounds are more realistic since they have access to real life sounds when HB does not for the Tomcat. Also, HB has seemed to go for a more entertainment Hollywood blockbuster feel with the Tomcat where ED is much more by the book, military, real world realism and accuracy with their modules.

There more to is than just the "31 FPS" There is the stuttering involved and the jarring affect of perceiving the FPS going from 60 to 30. For me, the biggest problem is with TrackIR that needs 60 FPS to appear smooth.

OP raises a good point...the HB F-14's gun is unique in the way it sounds compared to other DCS modules with the M6A1.

Hopefully add flight model fixes, overwing vapor, improved afterburner effects, HGU-55 helmet to the list as well!

I would really like to believe you...so you are saying that everyone from Cobra on down who has worked on the Tomcat is still only working on the Tomcat at this time until it is completed? Sorry for my skepticism...I am very wary since what happened with ED and the Hornet/Viper.

Thanks for the info. I had a 1440p monitor at one point and FPS would worst case drop into mid 50's flying Tomcat/Hornet on NTTR and PG. Now with a 1080p monitor, my FPS drops into the 30's over Guam. Same PC, same settings. That will be some incredible optimization they do. Let's hope they can pull it off.

I purchased the Tomcat...not the "free" extras. Take a poll on which everyone want first...completed Tomcat, Forrestal, AI A-6. While the extra stuff is greatly appreciated, it's ultimately not what we bought or what we are really here for...it's the Tomcat. Does it take 2,555+ days...you said the Tomcat has been in development for 7 years. Maybe some insight about why this one instrument is taking so long.... What more can we ask for? A completed Tomcat before all the free stuff.

100% this. Being a paying customer for some reason doesn't mean much these days for some reason...but I dare say that we are owed some realistic, fair, and accurate timelines. Speaking of the Forrestal and AI A-6 for that matter...I personally think that those can wait and be the very last things after the Tomcat is completed. Why are resources being put into the free extras when the module we purchased, the DCS F-14 Tomcat is still not completed and behind stated schedules?

Very well said and I agree. What I am frustrated with is that their engagement is misleading...coming soon, almost ready, near completion, planned for release in this month or next patch...months/year+ later and still waiting. If estimating time is so difficult, why does HB keep doing it? It has reached a level of utter insanity.

Holy moly...September, maybe? It doesn't even sound like everything will be completed then...after HB's hopes of having the Tomcat completed this past March...I thought HB was expanding, improving processes and production? Maybe it's just me but things seem to have slowed down significantly. There is still a TON of work to do on the F-14B alone before completion. I just don't get it. Yeah, I know, early access takes a long time...whatever that means these days. The constant delays, missed dates...it get's old after several years though when paying for something and still not getting it and constantly being told we would.

I just did a test flight...no change on my end. Remains unplayable, FPS dropping as low as 31. No other map drops below 60FPS for me.

Understandable; however, limitations of this being a sim and using a monitor or VR should be considered too. Just like various sounds have been unrealistically increased/amplified along with the amount of shake, rattle and roll seen at high AOA...it would be acceptable within reason to have unrealistic lighting in order to compensate.

The lighting issue goes beyond just the TID...all indicator lights need to be brightened. They have remained unreadable/unusable since release.

Meeeee tooooooo! Apart from the benefits of upgraded avionics, HUD especially... it would make for a more cohesive DCS and allow the Tomcat to more realistically participate alongside the Hornet, Viper, Warthog, etc. Personally, I am more interested in simulating early to mid 2000's combat scenarios. Also, the Tomcat is such a legend that it deserves nothing less than to be represented and remembered to the fullest if possible.

Thank you again for the tips. However, the problem is that I don't want to accept the low FPS on the Marianas map...I want it to perform like every other map in DCS has for me. I can go fly right now on any other map...with a mission, AI units, etc., and have no performance issues. I load up an empty Marianas map and it is a slide show...
