I play in 4K and also have this problem with the HUD elements being too thick. I've posted about this issue years ago and it seems like the problem still exists for me. I notice this in the F16 and F18 that I fly in. I have also tried that fix that you mentioned. Somebody posted that file and I downloaded and replaced it for the F18 and it didn't seem to change anything. But I will give your solution a try and see it it fixes it.

investigating HUD elements still appear too thick when using 4K
maverick90 replied to maverick90's topic in Bugs and Problems
Like I've mentioned, I've already done that and it doesn't help at all. Still looks too thick. It seems like this problem exists in 4K only, cause from the videos I've seen online the HUD fonts, symbology, lines all look very crisp, thin and sharp when DCS is used at lower resolutions. In 4K, the HMD HUD looks crisp. So I'm not sure why the HUD is thick, while the HMD's HUD looks nice and sharp. -
Coming from X-Plane 12 and MSFS 2020, the airport lighting could use some much needed improvements. The blue edge lighting in particular looks really bad. And I feel that the taxi lights from the plane shining onto the ground at night is a bit too overpowering also. If this hasn't been mentioned, I hope ED can improve on this to make dawn/dusk/night flying a much better visual experience.

I am in search of a really beautiful map in terms of landscape, biomes, etc to experience DCS in. I currently have the Nevada, Persian Gulf, and the default Caucus and Marianas but I'm not really feeling them. They lack the visual appeal and variety. I think they're too flat and kind of boring to fly around in. I've seen a few videos of the Syria map and from the looks of it, it seems to be on par with what I'm looking for. But curious to what you guys think about the map compared to the ones that I've mentioned. Sinai also looks pretty good too, but Syria seems to be better.

Issues with TrackIR placement on 55" TV's
maverick90 replied to maverick90's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly. But how would velcro fix the problem? Do you mean in the Track IR app where you can see the green dots? If so, then yes I believe it's already set properly but I will recheck again. -
How to set the main default cockpit view in the F18?
maverick90 replied to maverick90's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Thanks so much for this! One would think that the default cockpit view would have the HUD already aligned. Also, is there a quick way to view certain parts of the cockpit, such as the left console, right console, etc? I would like to bind them to my mouse for quick access to them. -
Looking for guides or tutorials for using the Mission Editor
maverick90 replied to maverick90's topic in Mission Editor
Thanks for that! Have you guys heard of Olympus? I just found out about it and it looks amazing. -
I am creating a mission and was wondering if you don't own certain modules, would you still be able to spawn them in the mission editor? For example I don't own the Apache 64 helicopter and wanted to place them down in the ME as targets or props so that I can shoot them down during the mission. Whether it be single player or an online multiplayer one. Of course I won't be able to use the module since I didn't purchase and own it. But at least will I be able to place them down as props (targets), etc?

According to steamdb website, the lowest price was $29.99. If I see this sale on steam again, would it be possible for me to purchase it and convert it to work with the standalone version of DCS? Just incase steam has a discount 1st.

Would love to see version 2 of the JHMCS being implemented into DCS!

I don't have the steam version and was wondering if there are any advantages to owning it on there instead? I have already bought and own several modules, and not sure if I had made the wrong choice of not having gone with the steam version instead. Seems like the dcs modules on steam have more sales often if I'm not mistaken. Is it possible to convert a non-steam DCS install to a steam one and vice versa? And also if I buy modules from steam, will it work with my non-steam version of DCS?
-
But I don't own the steam version of DCS. I bought DCS and the modlues directly from DCS's official website. Unless you mean steam sales also correlates to DCS's sale? I thought they were totally different on when they have their sales.

Seems like I just missed the latest spring sale for this map. Does anyone know when DCS usually has sales or when the next one is going to drop?

I have a 55" 4k TV mounted to a wall and sit at my desk when playing DCS. But it's giving me problems since I have the TrackIR mounted to the top of the tv and the angle to my head is kind of steep. When I'm in DCS and turning to the sides to see the left/right console of my plane, the view gets all crazy and I have to move my seat further back to get it to track better, but then I'm too far back and can't reach my keybord/mouse. It's very frustrating and definitely ruining my experience. I don't have much options on where to mount my TrackIR. If I place it on the table then it's the same problem. It will have to aim up very steep (i wear the track ir clip on my hat). There's no way for it to aim directly at me since my TV is too big.

I fly mostly the F14, F16 and F18 in DCS and wanted to upgrade to a HOTAS setup. I have a few questions and concerns. Will I need to buy seperate HOTAS for each of the planes I want to fly or is it universal? (Example: If I bought a HOTAS for F18 will I also be able to use it to fly the F16, F14,etc.?) Should I go with Winwing or Thrustmaster? I don't own a flight sim rig so how what would be the best way to mount my throttles and flight stick to my desk? (I don't use my computer strictly for DCS but also for work, so I can't have a dedicated flight rig or anything)

I currently have Track IR and was wondering if there's anything better?

Best SSD to use for Dcs
maverick90 replied to bartdude300's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I am also using a Samsung EVO 860 2.5" SSD and no getting great performance as well. No lags, no hiccups, no nothing. I had DCS originally on HDD and it caused so many random stutters. -
I find that the default is a bit too close for my liking and would like to move it further back so that I can see the mirrors. How can I changethe default view and save it so that it always goes back to this view when I hit Num+5.

I would like to request DCS to implement a better way of moving/panning/zooming the camera while inside the cockpit. I like how MSFS 2020 you can press and hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse around to pan and the scrollwheel to zoom in and out, and the arrow keys to move fwd, aft, up and down heightwise. This makes operating the plane so much more fluid. Rather than having to use the numpad to move around.
