Thank you sir! Copied, pasted and printed ... and very much appreciated! :)

That's one of those things where ya say "I'll do and show ya that again ... but ya gotta pay a nonrefundable lesson fee up front" And basically the exact opposite of what happens if before attempting something that tricky, you make the foolish mistake of saying "Hey youse guys, Watch This!!" Always the progenitor of ugly. :(

I'd be appreciative of youse guys' VA tutorial if doable. :)

We need a league of our own. ;) Seriously ... VR against VR, or TIR against TIR, otherwise it's as pointless as racing dirt bikes against GP bikes .... on water. OK .. so maybe more like going up against an F86 with a P51. It just doesn't make sense to me. Irrespective of how I feel about the realism differences ... to expect a level field of play if you fly competitively (especially if for money) in an arena that allows play amoungst competitors with hardware having such significant performance differences, is unrealistic in every sense of the word. NASCAR restrictor plates against no restrictors??? :)
-
Once again the term 'reality" in VR raises it's head (pun intended). ;) In real life pilots don't have the (IMHO: comparatively 'arcade like') advantage that TIR, thumhat and multi-screens allows in the sim. But for the time being ... that's an artificial advantage that they have. If we want to take on others on a level field, we really need to fly TIR with TIR, and VR with VR. Unless you might feel that going VR to TIR is sharpening your skills, then really whats the point of mixing the two? Maybe it's getting to be time to start thinking about having/hosting formal separate on-line arenas that are for each. (???) IMHO, that would make it more apples/apples.

Sounds like a minor bug, but one that's huge if you don't have the magic keystrokes. ;)

That fixed it! Both the desktop and VR modes have the mouse working again. :) Thanks 14'th_JAR!

After updating both 1.5 and 2, now with My CV1 connected ... both updated versions start in VR mode, but with no mouse control, and no apparent way to manipulate the menus. To get out of either updated version, I had to look at my monitor while both manipulating the handheld CV1 and my mouse to get to a point that I could shut DCS down. My system is an Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, Ti980SC+, and 32GB of 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM, and I'm using a TM WH HOTAS with Saitek Combat Pro pedals. I get the dot in the CV1, but don't see any way to activate the menu selections that I 'can' get to highlite when I move my head and place the dot on a menu selection. My mouse does nothing anymore except to work as above, to clumsily shutdown either version. ????? :helpsmilie:

Guide to Oculus Rift Settings for a readable cockpit.
MacThai_75 replied to Mad Dog 7.62's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks for the great tips! I just got my CV1 and I totally agree ... even with the stock settings I can see going back to 2D will be a very flat experience (no pun intended). I'll DL the SDK and give your settings a go. As far as motion sickness mimic, I use the same techniques as for when riding in a boat or a 'closed from outside view section' of a motrohome on curvy roads, etc. I eat/drink ginger, and place a rubber band around my wrist. Not sure why it works, but for me it does. (???) I understand some folks also take a shot of their favorite hard liquor, or in states like Co. ... a bong hit. I don't drink alcohol nor smoke anything ... so I haven't tried that, but it might be worth a go in moderation if legal ... and it doesn't effect your play. ;) -
Does anyone have the Leap Motion working with VR (preferably with CV1) in DCS? If so how did you get it to work? I have it working fine in FSX with FlyInside using a CV1. I'm using a water cooled Asus Maximus VIII Formula with an i7 6700K @ 4.5Ghz, 32GB@ 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM, and a 980Ti SC+. The CV1 works fine in DCS, but I have no idea of how to get the Leap Motion to work. I would be happy with it working like a mouse only.

Thank you Joko417 for making the Golden Hawk skin available. This is a very special skin for me. In the early 60's my Dad was in the RCAF stationed at Centralia in Ontario. I was 10 years old when I first saw the Golden Hawks in an airshow there. One of them was doing some aerobatics in front of the reviewing stands, when the announcer directed us to look to our rear where 3 more came screaming from behind us, flying between the Quonset hut flight line buildings, with their wingtips at the level of the lower window frames (about 10ft). Even after moving to the States in '62, it stayed etched in my mind, and as soon as I was old enough I joined the USAF and did a 6 year TOD with JUSMAG (Joint US Military Assistance Group) as an adviser, training Laotian, Cambodian military personal. I've seen the T-Birds and BA's many times, but that airshow at Centraila RCAFB was/is special. Now thanks to DCS and you I can bring it back in spades. Thanks!!

After doing some other searches I agree Sharkku .. it appears that the hardware is in fact the same, and the diff between the LM-010 and the LM-C01 (other than price) is the packaging. In any case ... Leap Motion's site says that all their hardware is compatible with Orion beta (which apparently overcomes many of the original SW shortcomings) so I'll take the $25 version and see how it goes. WRT: What it will/won't do in DCS ... if only a mouse, I'm all in, and will be very happy if only that. :) Thanks for posting about it Sharkku!

I think I'm seeing basically 3 different versions. One is with the mount for VR, and sells for ~$90. http://www.amazon.com/Leap-Motion-Developer-Bundle-VR-AZ/dp/B00SKWR4PE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1464543068&sr=8-3&keywords=Leap+Motion+Leap+Motion One might be an earlier version (???) and sell for ~$25 without the mount. http://www.amazon.com/Leap-Motion-Controller-interaction-Packaging/dp/B0176M1GHA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464542243&sr=8-2&keywords=Leap+Motion+Leap+Motion And another that sells for ~$50, also without the mount. http://www.amazon.com/Leap-Motion-Controller-Gesture-Control/dp/B00E3CP9UM/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1464497005&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=Laep+Motion+controller Since the VR goggle mount is available for ~$20, or (I assume) you could just mount it to the CV1 via Velcro (???) ... is there any difference between the last 2, or more importantly ... will either work equally as well with a CV1 for DCS?

New Cockpit ... and are USB hubs OK to use?
MacThai_75 replied to MacThai_75's topic in Home Cockpits
A huge thanks for the replies guys! :) I'll go ahead and try a cheapie hub first, and if I run into trouble I'll go Warhog's route. I'm just 'really' glad to learn that I won't have to run separate cables from each USB device to my PC. That was my main concern, as the whole pit is portable (on casters) and it splits into two main sections by loosening a single knob, and sliding the front pedals and driving wheel section away from the seat and flight controls section, via a telescoping tube that connects each main part. So having to mess with a bunch of cables that would need to go to each part ... every time I roll it out of storage to use it ... would have made setting it up a lot more of a hassle. Until either Sony officially announces 'for sure' that they are going to make their VR goggles (Project Morpheus) both PS4 'and' PC compatible, or the latest Oculus Rift becomes more available, I'll be using the 90" Sharp flat screen in my living room for my monitor, as I have been for the different driving sims. I'm a total flight sim rookie, and with after over 50 views to my post and no replies, I was getting concerned that I may have committed some sort of forum faux pas, maybe by calling it a cockpit in amongst posts of actual works of art that many of you guys have built, or possibly by posting in an area not usually receptive to these "minimalist" kinds of pits (basically just a seat and controls) so your replies are a big relief ... and very much appreciated. :) I can move forward to complete it, and on to the real hard part of it all ... actually learning to fly and operate the flight sim programs. ;) Once again ... a sincere "Thanks Guys!!" ...:thumbup::thumbup: -
I've almost finished building my open frame cockpit, and need to do the wiring up for it. It's nothing compared to the authentic looking and amazing cockpits you guys build, but it'll get the job done and with VR goggles ... help bridge the gap between it being basically a glorified seat and the detailed versions I see here. I'm using TM's Warthog HOTAS, a set of Saitek Combat pedals, a keyboard and mouse, and because the cockpit also doubles as a driving sim, I'll have 2 more USB devices (the TM shifter and the wheel with it's connected pedals). I'm wondering if I can use a USB hub with this set-up, and if so should it be 3.0 and/or powered? I do have a new PC I built for this project that has a water cooled, i7 6700K CPU Asus Maxumus VIII Formula, with a Gforce 980 Ti SC+ card and 32GB of 3200Mhz Rip Jaw memory, that has a charging 3.0 USB port, but am unsure of how long a cable run I can use if power from it is needed for the control components. BTW: I've set my cockpit up so I can easily go from a flight sim, to a driver sim, and when in flight mode ... from a center joystick to a right side mounted stick, by simply unplugging the USB plugs and swapping the custom 'lift-off mounts" for the joystick to replace the same type lift off mount on the TM driver stick shift. I'm also using a center mounted keyboard tray above the center joystick, with a side tray on it for a 10" Android in a "keyboard case" for a checklist and etc. I also modified the stock OpenWheeler cockpit so the seat can swivel ... to make it easy to get in and out of. Here's some pix of it (click for detail) ... Original OpenWheeler driving sim set-up ... After mods ... Swiveled with center stick ... Swiveled with right stick ... Driver mode (with center stick support tube removed) ... The seat also slides forwards and back (like a car seat) and so transitions from a driving sim to a decent flight sim is easy, as is going from a center to side stick and nothing requires any tools. To maintain that ease of conversion, I'll be using bulkhead mounted USB adapters as needed to keep it all tooless/plug and play. But since this is my very first sim cockpit build, I'm just really not sure about the USB hub thing being cool, nor if I can successfully use the power I might need for the controls from the Asus based PC's 3.0 charging port? I'm hoping some of you more experienced folks can direct me in that end of this project. TIA!!

Thank you Yurgon! I appreciate the detailed information, and completely understand the situation now.

Newb question that I have been unsuccessful at finding an answer to. Can I use 2.0 for things that say they require 1.5? Like (for example) the A-10C Basic Flight Training Campaign, says it requires DCS World 1.5. Will it run under DCSW 2.0, or do I have to also DL 1.5 to use it?
