  1. Hey Glider, Buddy in that case I hope you're not reading this but wish you well all the same. Dont rush back, take the time needed and I hope all works out. J.
  2. Cheers Guys. Just needs a UFC Glider ;) J.
  3. Looks really good Penguin. Now looking for one that doesn't cost the earth, like all the Hasegawa do in the UK. Still looks well worth it and that bare metal underside just has to be done :) J.
  4. Very nice Penguin. The Draken is stunning as are the rest, I have wanted to do one of those for a while. Hasegawa? The Falcon is the 1/144 Fine Molds one. Cant stretch to the price of the 1/72 one even though I'd love to. Ive got the rest of the Star Wars Fine Molds ready to go, time though at the moment is an issue... J.
  5. Hi Guys, Since I bought a few of Gliders panels I figured I should put them somewhere useful. So, my Not Quite a Pit, More a Fancy Desk has been changed a little. All of the panels connect to a Leo Bodnar Button Box 32 (awesome bit of kit) and the touchscreen (an NEC 2090 Touch I had lying around) is running HELIOS which is also running the button box switch inputs. Not a dedicated pit (the panel around the touchscreen comes off) and I am waiting for a few DZUS and switch covers to come to make it a bit better and hide some of the dodgy screws. Also the panels not in the "correct place" just in an accessible one which works for me. Everything sits proud of the Touchscreen (cables etc routed into the back of the panel itself to stop them touching the screen, especially for the MFD's to hide their cabling). All I have to do now is find a way to use the lit Landing Gear handle I have from here and to display the flap gauge in the correct place on Glider's panel, rather than on the touchscreen. Anyway, pictures:
  6. Hi all, Im just wondering if there are any other modellers in the forums? There must be a few others out there who fettle with plastic as well as with DCS :) I wonder if we could set up a sub forum for those who model either the ground or airborne types seen in DCS either now or in future? J. Here are a few of mine to start the ball rolling - not all DCS related: And the upcoming stash:
  7. Looking really good Silver Dragon. Nice jet. J.
  8. Spectre, I think you'll find the laws of physics are static and don't change. There is effect on the aircraft based on weight, drag and other factors but that's not the laws of physics changing, that's the laws of physics in effect. Anyway, this isn't Aerodynamics 101 and as above its off topic anyway. I'm still in favour of civil based aircraft either way and there is still the if you don't want em don't buy em argument. The way I see it the more there is in DCS World the more chance its got to survive in the difficult climate of business case vs simulation cost. It may not be perfect but its the best so far at trying to build a world thats expandable and can be populated by more and more aircraft/vehicles/terrain. Everyone argues for a persistent world on a persistent server which would be nice. That said imagine logging into that persistent world and waiting for the other 100 folks ahead to start, taxi and depart from every airport on the system. Its bad enough in real life being stuck in a departure queue or trying to get that last required touch and go in but at least you know everyone in the real world ahead knows what they're doing, isn't going to crash on approach or block the runway and have everyone else waiting for hours... J.
  9. Again the "Not Military don't want" argument. Does no one here, other than those of us who have flown military and civil, understand that the rules are the same and before you're let loose on a Military aircraft you learn in one that's not much different from a civil one. The laws of physics don't suddenly change when you hang ordnance under the airframe... Sometimes the pleasure of flying alone is worthwhile enough to me that I don't want to worry about the RWR screaming at me or having to dodge Shilka's. Now some will say of that "Go do it in FSX or X-PLane 10 then". No, Id rather do it in the same environment that I will later fly combat in and with the same flight model fidelity as I'm used to on DCS. Simple really. If you don't want it don't buy it, but I think you will be missing out on some good training time in the Sim. J.
  10. Brilliant news :) J.
  11. A sad day has passed. A true legend, the epitome of British inventiveness and engineering and 75 years a pilot, not forgetting his Wellington bomber missions in WWII. I was lucky enough to meet him at an RAeS event a few weeks ago and he was amazing. His lecture there is up on the RAeS website and well worth a look. We chatted there and a few days later after an invite I flew up to see him and check out his lair, including his Gyrocopter collection. I truly think his kind are almost gone, either by lack of things left to do or just Health and Safety and other bureaucracy getting in the way. I felt honoured to be there with him at the time and even more so now on hearing of his passing. RIP Ken, you will be missed. I hope the last flight to meet the maker was with blue skies and fair winds.
  12. Thats great news on the UFC Glider. Always have money here for your kit... Just let me know when :) J.
  13. The official speed? Officially classified. Nothing to see here...
  14. Romeo, Where did you get the Standoff pillars for the panels? Did you make them or are they a standard size from a supplier/ I was thinking of making my own from Nylon rod stock but if I can buy them and save some time that'd be much better. Thanks in advance, J.
  15. I don't know why anyone is so anti civil aircraft here. The more the merrier and no matter what the type is we can all learn something about flying from it. Some developers out there don't want to do hardcore mil aircraft but could do great hardcore civil aircraft using the benefits of the DCS engine, if nothing else it'll keep the simulation world alive and well for us all to enjoy. Some civil aircraft are as much fun too. That's coming from someone whose flown military jets, helicopters and civil types too by the way. Some military types are derivatives of civil types too, are you saying these shouldn't be modelled either? I remember a certain armed crop sprayer lookalike at one point being the favourite for the next DCS fixed wing aircraft. Oh and for all the military lovers who want to shoot something down (and don't mind if its civil) I have 2 things to say: 1. If you want to be a military hardcore guy our Armed Forces are always looking for willing, skilled people to replace our lost comrades, by the way the bad guys shoot back and theres no ESC key or its like in sight ;) 2. Given what I've experienced in a Pitts S2 and an SU26 I would love to see you get guns on me in DCS or real life ;)
  16. Whartsell, Will this use with Teensy 3.0 boards? They're cheap and cheerful, seem to have enough inputs to handle a decent sized panel and given the cost wont break the bank if there is one each in each panel. Could be a good standalone panel option of they work with EOS? Rgds, J.
  17. I'd like them, especially Test Pilot, I'm ex Boscombe Down and spent time at ETPS though my time was the 90s not the 80s ;) J.
  18. Gadroc, Your panel board sounds like a great plan having read your site description for it. Have you considered maybe selling the plans for it? Only reason I ask is that for people like me, not in the States we could buy the plan and then manufacture our own boards. I'd much rather pay you a fee for the plans (with the obvious proviso that I wouldn't pass the plans on or sell them to others) than pay the thieving Royal Mail guys some VAT and import duty (usually more than the actual item you've purchase) like I do when I order model kits from outside the UK. I'd happily pay a decent proportion of the cost of an actual board for the plans alone and make my own board rather than pay Import Duty :) Thanks in advance, J.
  19. Those eBay ones I have. Well of sorts. I had some left over from a long gone remote controlled helicopter that looked right but didn't fit. So, went to my old supplier and got some M5 ones and all done now. Thanks for the leads though guys. I now need to work out what to mount them to :) J.
  20. My panels from Glider, sorted with switches I have so far and wiring. Really great panels and they look so good. Hope I can now do them justice in finding a way to mount them. Thanks again Glider, really looking forward to the UFC now :) J.
  21. Glider, Mine have arrived and Im in the process of building them. Some pics to come soon I hope. Once Ive found screws to screw the layers together. For anyone else hesitating I cant recommed them enough. Totals works of art as far as Im concerned :) J.
  22. Looking great. What a cool collection :) J.
  23. Thanks Mate, Just replied :) J.
  24. Great news. Thnaks again. Youre a star :) J.
  25. Hey Glider, Thanks for the update. Can I be a real pain in the arse and ask of your planning on doing the Gear Panel at all? I have TomDK's Landing Gear Handle sitting awaiting a home is the reason I ask. Thanks again for all the work, J.
