Hi MiG-21 pilots. I've been drooling over this module for quite some time and so I couldn't resist the recent sale price, even though it's definitely worth the full price. I love it. One question -for now lol. I did search 1st - honest. No result. I'm having a bit of trouble deploying the drag shute. I flip the little cover up. I have my speed below 320. I push the deploy shute button as I have allocated. Nothing. I've tried quite a few times and now I need to ask. I am unable to deploy the drag shute. Help appreciated.

Best Way to Show-Off/Show-Case DCS VR to Someone Who Does NOT Fly?
Flit replied to Gnat's topic in Virtual Reality
Yeah, record a track. When replaying, F2 the view and F1 again ...and then your subject can enjoy the ride as a passenger without conflicting head movements. DCS tracks do get corrupted, which can be disappointing/annoying. So, prepare a couple and keep them fresh when expecting passengers. Ha, my old mum got frightened as ground level loomed and had to 'eject' the Rift from her head! It's a real laugh watching folks. -
I fly an MI8 in VR with my Rift strapped on. I didn't fly DCS before VR (I was a prop man) and the MI8 purchase was a careful choice. I was aware of the issues with viewing distant objects (specks). After six months in the Mi8, I've been itching to get in a jet and fight other air targets. I have noticed one or two people in servers have mentioned they fight air to air with VR. So, who does fight air to air with VR? How does that go for you? Does everyone get the bounce on you or do you have some success?

Hi, I have just worked out that button number 5 on my old Saitek X52 does not work in DCS V.2.0. Button 5 does work on the device perfectly well. It also functions fine in V1.5. I wonder why it works in 1.5, but not 2.0. Is there something I can do to make V2.0 recognise it? It's a primary button in a sweet spot, so yes; it bothers me. :joystick: EDIT: Sorry, I think I just had one of those weird glitches that just goes away after a restart and leaves you feeling like a moron for asking too soon.

My wife has started an evil game. While I am completely engrossed in my Virtual Reality of aircraft systems and AAA, and mostly oblivious to the real world, she will collect and trap a little fart in her hand and very soon after release it under my nose. The odor will soon permeate my senses and the ghastly realisation dawns on me. Beware. :puke:

Ohhhh, it was the update that changed those labels. I thought I had unwittingly pushed a button at some point recently. For me, the font is about three times larger. I see this as a good thing, because labels had been unreadable in VR until this change. This was especially so if there was more than one unit grouped together. Not that I really use labels - I just tinker about in single player. But nice to know I can turn them on and be able to read them if I need to.

I have to say, I am having a lot of fun with this. It's quite a challenge too. The External Cargo Indicator does not work in VR, is that correct? Can somebody confirm please? And, it has been mentioned in this thread that the Automatic Voice Assistant will only speak English if the coalition is blue. Can someone confirm this too please? Here's a pic just for the heck of it. :D I really ought to have a play with the door gunners soon.

What is the current state of VR in DCS; was your headset worth buying?
Flit replied to Jamesp1's topic in Virtual Reality
I think my issue is the woolly hat I wear, now that I think about it. The top of the Rift rests on the Woolly hat, and so angles the Rift closer to my face at the bottom. Therefore, the answer to my woes must be to wear a balaclava. Now, that would look odd. -

2 or 3 weeks with it now. Love it! +1 to all the positive comments above. When I first got my Rift running in DCS, I found I was sitting the wrong way around in the cockpit - I was facing the headrest. But I was looking out the sides and craning my neck to the front and I stayed in this position, reluctant to turn it off and figure out the problem, for about half an hour in utter amazement with a massive grin on my face. These days, I fly an Mi8. I just love sitting in it. I'm there! In a helicopter! The wife, who sits nearby, laughs/scoffs at me when I get in odd positions. There's switches everywhere in a Mi8! I wear a woolen hat under it - I don't have a thick mane - so it causes a little pain/annoyance sometimes on my forehead or back of head. I wish the gap at the bottom was bigger sometimes. I heard there was a gap, and I thought 'ahh, I'll need that for when using the keyboard', but I often have to lift it up so I can see. How do you Rift users find that? I guess the shape of the face has something to do with any differences maybe. Yes, I agree, the res is a problem for distant targets. This is singularly the biggest issue. The positive aspects dictate I'll put up with it. i7 4770 - 16gb ram - GTX 1070 - no issues at all with frame rates, even when I bump it to 2.5 pixel density and have most settings on high. -
Thanks for all your suggestions. I remapped the keys, changed ports. Actually, I reckon Art-J nailed it with this one. I think I was getting into the start process, finding my stick unresponsive and rather than continuing with start up procedures; getting into a tangle about the stick. I think I had started rotors once and must have left the collective on and of course after some spooling the whole machine spiraled up and then into the ground, which led me to think it was 'stuck', but probably the whole ship in that state was just beyond recovery. Long story short, I haven't had the issue since starting the engines, but do observe the stick is 'frozen' until I do. Thanks again.

The tricky bit is keeping the tail boom attached when those cargo doors fly off. I haven't managed that.

Ha ha ...yes, I suppose it is. :music_whistling: My 4 year old is very proud.

After an exhausting day in RL, I decided to take the Mil Mi-8 for a spin. Enjoy this edited adventure while listening to me witter away. Excuse my terrible microphone.

Hi Imp, Thanks for your time. For example... I spawn in the cold and dark Mi-8, I can see the cyclic moving about and corresponding with what I am doing with the x52 as I can with the collective, which I set to zero, I move on to batterys and invertors and APUs and then I notice that neither the cyclic nor collective is responding to my movements anymore - they are dead. BUT, on my desktop I have a Saitek program going and I can see the stick moving about on the axis thing, AND strangely the buttons work on the cyclic for the trimmer when the stick goes frozen, but the stick won't move and it is not moving the control surfaces (which was confirmed rather dramatically on the ramp once lol). :joystick: It just seems to be timing out for periods of time and then some unknown event will cause it to come back online again. I can't figure it out. I think my x52 is dying - it is about 13 years old now and has been through a lot. I was just checking above that there was no 'Mi-8 cyclic lock' or something daft that I was unaware of. But, now that I have experimented even more, I am almost certain the problem is not this.

A quick hello message (my 1st post) before I ask for a little help... Hello Mi-8 pilots! I treated myself to this amazing Mi-8 the other day (and a Huey). I chose a couple of helis to get serious with as I figured helis are probably the most suitable flyer for a VR user in this present age, what with the state of the res. My old X52 stick seems to fall out of favor with the Mi-8 when I enter a 'create new mission' in cold and dark. It's fine in any other kind of scenario. Completely weird. I just want to check there is no quirk to the Mi-8/DCS that I might be ignorant of that might cause this. The wife will poison me I'm sure if I tell her I need to spend $lots$ on a new flight stick after all I've spent recently. Did I mention DCS in VR is awesome? It is!
