51st PVO Regiment Server: Back to the 80's! This week (May 16th to 23rd), the 51st PVO Regiment Server will go back to the 80's! Our missions will be set during the 1980's, at a time when air-to-air fights were fought with medium ranged semi-active missiles such as the R-27R and the AIM-7. This week, you can test your skills against your opponents using R-27R's, R-27T's, R-73's, AIM-7's and AIM-9's. Players will not be allowed to use the E-versions (R-27ER, R-27ET, R-27EM), the R-77 or the AIM-120B or C. Our missions will run special versions where the default payloads are adapted to fit the weapon restrictions. Players that violate the weapon restrictions will be automatically kicked from the server, but will be allowed to rejoin. Note that our stats page will keep track of all offenders.

Who, the astronomers or the pilots? The astronomers were probably bitching that their observation was ruined by all the interference!

From the data the astronomers were able to track the flight in 3D.

It is very easy to setup the server for this, the big problem is getting qualified controllers that are willing to miss the fun and lose their voice after three hours of controlling :) We'll see what we can do.

This is what I am doing, except that I do not kick but just reroute the network traffic of the offender. From my initial tests about a year ago I found that those LUA call backs are not always accurate and that writing and testing the LUA code was a nightmare. That is why I have made minimal changes to the LUA code and do the rest externally.

On the 51st we're running a program that will kick people if they launch restricted weapons during an 80's week. Unfortunately it is at present not able to distinguish a R-77 launched from a legal MiG-29S or a restricted Flanker, so it isn't really useful in this situation.

Are there other people that can share what it was like? I'm curious to hear more opinions.

This isn't true. Two of the missions contain config/export/config.lua, but this is not the same as export.lua. config.lua controls if exports are enabledexport.lua executes LUA code that uses exports The fact that config.lua is contained in a mission file still means that your export.lua must be the same as on the server. I suggest you make sure that you and your friends use the export.lua that comes with the integrity check. Only if all files are the same as on the server will you pass the check.

Which is a pity, because nuclear power is as good as the only way to solve our energy problems.

Yep, pretty cool, isn't it? Last Sunday both ISS and Discovery passed through the sky from where I live and with my binoculars I could clearly make out both spacecraft while they were a few 100 feet apart. They docked about an hour later.

And for the last week of February the missions on the 51st server are 80's style again. The following weapons are restricted: R-27ER R-27ET R-27EM R-77 AIM-120B AIM-120C All aircraft have default payloads that fit these restrictions. When rearming, make sure you load the allowed weapons.

Let's get this thread back on topic. In the end the best strategy is to have superior teamwork. So you should ensure your operating procedures and comms are well trained and become second nature.
