I suspect the enemy airfield would be identifiable on radar if one wanted to send some friendly Bk90's over !

** DCS: AJS-37 WIP Pre-Release Manual Released! **

The Ja37 HUD came 10 years later and it's much more modern ! -
Using this weapon at high altitude would be devastating. A Viggen could fly at 30.000 feet and drop these things 20 miles from the target and then break away.

There's an inconsistency in the manual. On Page 228 and 229 it states the U/22 class pods can be mounted on the inner wing pylons. Then on Page 47 the indicator panel can only indicate a fault in an ECM pod under the right wing. When one reads the Viggen "Förarinstruktion" that states the ECM pods can only be carried under the right wing pylon the Chaff/Flare pod is the only one which can be carried on both wing pylons or either. -
Also ammunition can vary a great deal in how dangerous it is to practice with within the same color range. I remember that we used Blue hand grenades and they basically had a small fire cracker inside that you could replace and they where used for training. But the 9mm rounds that the AT4 anti tank weapon used which had the same ballistics as the projectile where as dangerous as any 9mm round.

Sweden follow the NATO standard i think. Yellow = Live Green = Inert Blue = Practice Brown = Ballast warhead Red = incendiary White = Illumination

Hmm i took a closer look at the SFI AJS 37 del 1 kap 1 PDF Förarinstruktion. On page 435 there's a weapons logic schematic for launching rockets and apparently you just set the launch impulse circuits in practice mode and it can fire singly. The question then becomes if you can do this in the cockpit or not. -

As a side-note the pod was removed from service just because it was a cluster weapon. The last examples being dismantled last year. When it came down to it the anti military activists in this country didn't care about if it was safe or not. So the next time we buy cluster munitions we probably won't care as much because it made no difference ! -

Metric mile is a better word than Swedish mile because historically a Swedish mile is not the same as the metric one. -

They use a different pod! That's very clear if you read the "förarinstruktion" also if you ever see a picture of a pod with live rockets the pod is in mint condition. What fictional export option? Will the Viggen use all 9 pylons like the one offered to Australia ? -
Was reading this sand sadly it's mostly in Swedish but on page 11 the Engineer Leif Sjöberg say that SAAB was the worlds largest customer for integrated circuits when the CK37 was developed ! http://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:13266/FULLTEXT01.pdf

We know the AJSF-37 was put into SWEFRAP at the end of it's service in the Swedish Air Force which would have meant it could be called upon to fly outside Sweden. I am not aware if anything was done about the navigation system though. -
No everyone should be forced to learn Swedish ! Like all normal people do ! :D :D

One of the really fun features of the Viggen seems to be the Time On Target indicator. In a multiplayer game this must be a tremendous help in coordinating ground strikes for instance. The question is is this a common feature on other DCS aircraft as well ? It's certainly something that seems to require a computerized navigation system.

Page 43: The Viggen had two independent fire alarms for the Engine, i'm guessing this is why No:1 and No:2 are both engine bay warning lights. Two systems where installed because the Viggen has no fire suppression system and in case of an engine fire the emergency procedure is to pull the ejector seat handles ! -

The RM8 is just under a 1:1 bypass ratio which is very high for a fighter. -

Page 224 It says here that the U22 and U22/A pods only have an automatic mode. Everywhere i've read including the manuals and the information by the Arboga Electronics Association (which are people who worked on ECM) say the pod had two modes. One was deception Jamming which was initiated by the RWR Suite. The other was active noise Jamming which was controlled by the pilot if he wanted it to be on or off. Spin up time for either mode was about 3 minutes ! -

Page 216 The rocket pods also had spoiler rings to provide optimum dispersion, there could be removed if you wanted to use rockets against a ship for instance and needed a more bunched up hit pattern. Page 224 I thought they only flew with 2 BK90's because you couldn't use the Drop tank and the BK90 on the center fuselage at the same time ! Page 223 Also where is the RB-75T ? Page 218 ÖHKSAR=Ögonblickligt HögKänsligt SpetsAnslagsRör which translate to Instantaneous Highly Sensitive Noze Fuze. Page 227/228 I did not know that you could fit the U/22 ECM pod under both wings in all the manuals it say that you have to use it on the right wing, the only aircraft that is the exception as far as i know is the SK37E which was used as an ECM aggressor. But that aircraft was very non standard as it could also carry the U95 jammer and the backseater had advanced control panels for the Pods ! -
https://www.facebook.com/groups/saab37viggen/permalink/974011699400657/ Found this facebook post where someone had photographed the JA37 JA37Di and SH37 (basically the same as AJS37) cockpit front panels at the Missile Museum in Arboga. It certainly accentuate how much of a difference there was between the versions !

Trigonometrically speaking you wouldn't need to you have the dive angle and you have the range to target with that you can calculate your height relative to the target.
