Not ruling that out BIGNEWY, but I haven't changed the way I work the radar either. I haven't had a chance to go back and try again. The real world has caught up to me. Will get back to testing that hopefully this weekend.

Oh man. Jane's F/A-18. That was one of my favorite sims. My first virtual squadron was back in that sim. I was also an original member of Team Superhornet back in the day. I wrote a tool for it called the Art Manager. Anyways I have to agree with you Kingsnake11. I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, but it just seems to me that any system just cannot be that effective. I believe Generals and technicians going out in both cases is just for show. I think they know their systems are not as effective as they lead on to believe. Of course they will advertise it. Making your enemy believe it is more effective than actually being able to do it lol.

Okay so last night I finally got back on an Inferno server to test TWS. As I said before, I have been playing SP (Liberation Campaign) and TWS has been working well enough. Interestingly enough, it worked for me in MP last night as well. The server I joined was empty so there were plenty of targets. I flew at two pairs of two. Both pairs were beaming so I didn't pick them up at all on radar until about 50 miles out, when they finally turned towards me. The two groups were about 20 miles apart. It took a few TMS Downs and TMS Rights, but I managed to get tracks on all four and change targets between all of them with TMS Right. Not sure what changed, but I was never able to do that before in MP. Once I had the first tracked locked I could not lock subsequent targets. So either something was fixed, or all of the sudden I starting doing something right, although I did nothing different than before. Anyways I'm going to try again today and if I encounter any issues again I will post the track. Frederf: Thank you for the advice. I'm aware of the different track types. I wait until its the radar that can see the contact before I attempt to create TWS tracks.

Hi Nineline. The only time I see the radar switch to RWS is when I TMS Down too much. I will try and get an online server tomorrow and record a track for you. I've been playing mostly SP lately with the Liberation campaign.

Again, I wonder how accurate these defense systems really are at shooting down missile after missile...
-
There is video on Amazon Prime Smithsonian channel about the F4. You will see a wild weasel pilot describing a mission where he carried and fired 4 HARM missiles and all 4 hit their targets. I don't think the HARM is so much the issue in DCS, its those incredibly accurate defense systems that always shoots them down. I wonder if that is truly accurate.
-
YES SIR! lol
-
Oldeus I also encounter that exact same issue. I really hope ED is reading this thread.

Funny you say that. I like to fly on the inferno servers. When there's a heavily defended target (with multiple SAMS) I will usually jump in to the Hornet first and engage that target with HARMs or JSOWS (but like I said before, most get shot down). Takes ALOT of munitions before enough get through to actually take out the SAMs. Once thats done, then I can get into the Viper and fly over the target. This is why I want some stand off weapons in the Viper lol.
-
Not sure if this helps. But if you TMS Down while the TGP is SOI, it will reset the TGP so it's looking straight ahead. You should see the TGP Box in the center of the HUD. Then you can slew it. You can quickly find a target if you point your nose at it and TMS Down and slew.
-
I agree to an extent. Right now the Viper has no stand off weapons, and that makes it very difficult (if not impossible) to attack targets that are heavily defended by SAMs (stand off defenses). I think its important to include Harms and something with more range than a maverick (JSOWs for example). Not that these weapons are that effective (seems stand off weapons just get shot down most of the time anyways), but at least we have a standing chance. Now once they add a couple of stand off weapons then I agree that all other features can come in whatever order. Only thing I would leave last is the eye candy. I prefer a fully functional jet first.

Deliverator yes I am aware of this. Its funny when someone posts that something is not working the first assumption is that they are doing something wrong lol. I know how to work the radar. I can TMS down all the way and then TMS right again. This is NOT this issue I am reporting. The issue I'm reporting is that once I TMS right enough times to lock the first target, subsequent TMS rights does NOT cycle locks. It works sometimes and others it doesn't. And again, I've been playing in single player lately and everything seems to work well for the most part. Its against enemy aircraft in MP that I'm experiencing these issues.

I wonder why they chose to hide the results now. It kind of feels uncomfortable that they are hiding them. If they hide the data they can publish whatever results they want and say that's what was voted for. I think they should make them public like they did with the hornet.
-
Hi TLTeo, anyway to check if this data is also available to look at? I'm very curious to know the results.
-
Ah so then you have the same issue I have. The whole point of TWS is to engage multiple targets quickly. Something I haven't been able to do. Like I said before, I can get to the point where I can lock a target. It will hold the lock and I can engage with a missile. But pressing TMS right after the first target is locked does nothing.

dundun92 can you please provide a track or video showing you employ multiple aim-120s in TWS mode in MP? Not calling you a liar mind you. I just want to see it working, and more importantly see how you are manipulating the radar controls to get this work? I cannot discount the fact that maybe I'm doing something wrong. Thanks

So a little update on this issue. First off, before yesterday, I flew MP 100% of the time. Yesterday I decided to try out the Liberation Dynamic Campaign in single player (really good btw). Well guess what? I was able to pick up enemy targets on the radar out to 80 miles with no issues. I was also able to use TWS, although I still had the issue where as I TMS right is goes all the way to locking a single target, but further TMS rights did not change targets. Only maintained lock on the first. Curiously, I then jumped into an Inferno campaign in MP and went to test the radar. And again, I could NOT pick up enemy contacts (friendlies I could see out to 160 no problem), inside of 40nm. So it looks like this is an issue with MP and only with enemy contacts. Not sure if ED has secretly adjusted the radar for MP but that is what it feels like. Anyways that's my 2 cents. It would be great if someone else could test this and shared their findings.

Wow this thread has taken a turn since I last posted lol. Look I understand most of you want absolute realism, but you need to understand that you will NEVER get that. You can get close, and I again I understand "as close as possible", but at the end of the day, this will never happen. This issue of not being able to even see a target, and almost never being able to use TWS is just not right. We have a radar that scales out to 160 and yet I can't pick up anything inside 40 miles. When I do I can't even use TWS for various reasons. This is not FUN. And not only that, but it forces me to fly other planes when I would rather fly the F-16. That is also not FUN. Realism is fine, but not when it gets in the way of fun, and fun is what games are supposed to be, whether its a simulator or a an FPS. IMHO this needs to be fixed. Charts or no charts and real or not. That's just my opinion.

I have the same issues. I've tried everything. Antenna elevation settings, azimuth scan, etc.. I cannot get the radar to even see enemy targets until it gets within 30-40 miles, and I can rarely get TWS to work correctly. Even if I have two bandits out in front and both showing on radar (actual blips not datalink). I switch to TWS and then repeatedly hitting TMS right does nothing most of the time, and when it works it will usually just work on one contact even though more than one is visible. In most cases, I just use RWS because I can't get TWS to work. Funny thing is, I can see friendly aircraft usually with no problems at further ranges. Only seems to happen with enemy contacts. Note this is in multiplayer. I usually fly on Inferno servers. This just can't be right. Why have the options for 80 and 160 miles when those never work? Something is off.

As the title says. No binding found to arm or safe the ejection seat.
-
Okay good. Just want to make sure nothing is wrong with my updater.
-
Has the update been released? I'm not getting prompts for a new version.

Let me ask you this: If the customers were not constantly complaining would the developer be forced into giving dates? They read all the negativity on here and their reaction is to try and be transparent. DCS is as complex as you're going to find when it comes to software. There is NO WAY they can give dates and stick to them because things come up that are unforeseen. And what does the community do? They complain more.
-
Here's your answer on what is actually coming, which does NOT include the SLAM. As a software developer myself, I understand how these things work behind the scenes, especially with software as super complex as DCS, which is why I took a wait and see approach. I really think that we need to stop putting so much pressure on EA and give them the time they need to complete their work. Posts like this one set unnecessary expectations and can only lead to negativity and disappointment. What they are building is truly amazing and it's my privilege to support and encourage the hard work done by EA. To Matt, Kate and the rest thank you for your hard work!
