1. Actually I run exactly that (but without the TH2G - using 2 GPUs) windowed in Vista and I get about 17FPS on medium settings. So, it is possible and throwing a bit more hardware at it might get the FPS beyond the magic 25-30.
2. urze's argument is that both heads have to have the same res for fullscreen, so this wouldn't work unless the screen on the second head was the same xtra-wide res as the main (with TH2G).
3. Reaper, that is exactly the same setup I have. You'll be able to copy word for word the config here: http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Black_Shark_MultiMonitors#Vista_.28windowed.29 Join up with the VAAF while you're at it!
4. Yup, register and edit away on the wiki. Don't be afraid of messing up, we can always revert to a previous version if you bugger something up.
5. feel free to add :)
6. In BS I find that anything less than 50 km/h with more than 3 m/s descent is a recipe for VRS. Mind you, there is some warning (vibration) and a quick reaction by lowering collective and nosing over will fly you out of it quite rapidly, but if you're under 20m AGL and get VRS you're probably a goner, even if you eject. Some more aerodynamics here: http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Rotary_Wing_Aerodynamics
7. No, according to your files there the ABRIS and Shkval are on the right. If you want them on the left, you have to put the phantom on the right as follows: Viewports = { Center = { x = 1024; y = 0; width = 1680; height = 1050; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.6; } } Shkval = { x = 512; y = 0; width = 512; height = 768/2; } ABRIS = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 512; height = 768; Let me know how that goes. Can you please post a screenshot of your windows display span settings, thanks.
8. OK let me see... it looks good to me. Are you certain that the multimon file you copied the second section from is named pit_camera+abris+shkval.lua and that file is in \Ka-50\Config\MonitorSetup? If not, then DCS could be reading the wrong file. What program did you use to edit the lua files? Otherwise I can't see a problem with it. Is your ABRIS screen set to the left or the right in your windows span?
9. Any ED reps care to comment if this is on the feature list for a future patch/release?
10. I never said that one must do that. But yes, all your suggestions would move somebody closer to authenticity. If that is your thing, go for it. Pulling for power is more authentic than pushing. Side-mounting collective style is yet more authentic. Building a collective is yet more authentic. Where you draw the line is up to you, but arguing that pushing for power is just as authentic as pulling is wrong.
11. I have a cockpit and it never feels like the real thing (which I have done). What matters to me is what is closest possible, given the limitations of my hardware and software, to the real thing. I honestly don't care how people choose to play. If you want to push for power, knock yourself out. But don't try and say that it is just as realistic or more realistic than pulling. Man up and admit that you are making a decision to sacrifice a little bit of authenticity in exchange for playability. Labels, arcade mode, invulnerability, unlimited ammo, simplified flight model, and yes, pushing for power, are all decisions we make in the interests of playability and if you choose to use them, all power to you. If that's how you roll, hey man it's your money. The original question was "should I". That was an invitation for personal opinion. This is mine. Yours is different. If you're feeling insecure because you couldn't "retrain your brains" from flying jet sims, don't try to make yourself feel better by invoking the term "elitist". I am simply stating a fact that on a sliding scale of grey, pulling for power is closer to authenticity than pushing. If authenticity is your thing, there's your answer. If not, cool, whatever.
12. Actually they definitely do change. I've got quite a bit of RL flying experience and I know that for a fact.
13. Paste them in a code block here, may as well broadcast the solution the monitor config file and the options.lua graphics section - copied from the actual files you're using. cheers
14. I know it seems wierd, but that's correct. That's the config straight from my working (Vista) system. Shkval and ABRIS aren't "Viewports" per se.
15. can you paste your actual config files here? That doesn't look right (obviously!). How are your screens set up in windows/driver display settings?
16. What do you mean "centred across the monitor" - can you send a photo of the screen?
17. Happy to help :)
18. try this for Shkval/ABRIS on the left: If that doesn't work you might need a 1024x768 phantom screen on the far right.
19. Here's an interesting exercise - pick an object like a ground vehicle or something with a lot of space around it and hover at about 10m AGL, maybe 20m away from it, facing it. Now try and fly a circle around it, staying pointing at it and staying 10m AGL and 20m away. Do that for awhile and you'll start burning basic helo controls into your subconscious.
20. I hear ya man, I lawn-darted last night in multiplayer due to VRS. It's a killer when you're hack-flicking around at 10-20m. I think it's probably a little aggressively modelled in BS, but having never flown the Ka-50 I can't say for sure :)
21. Well I agree that all this info is in the ingame encyclopaedia, how is it not helpful to point that out? Or is the OP really saying "ya know, I can't be arsed looking around for this info, can someone else do the work and post it here for me?" Maybe so, maybe not. I hope not. It would be nice if all this info was in a summarised, offline form but someone's gotta do the work. To my knowledge it's not been done.
22. Sure, push for power, turn on arcade mode, use labels, whatever. You paid your money, you play it your way. But if you want to play is as close to the real deal as is possible given the limitations of the software and hardware - pull for power.
23. It would seem that if fullscreen is not working for you, it's because both screens need to be the same resolution (vertical and horizontal) whereas I previously thought it was only the vertical that had to be the same. If this is an issue for you, go to non-fullscreen or set both screens to the same res. cheers
24. Fair enough - I don't remember seeing the "at the same resolution" part in any of your previous posts. I have seen "at the same vertical resolution" many times, and the above satisfies that. Guess I won't know until I start experimenting, and that won't be until my TH2G arrives in a few days. *edit* would setting the second head to 3840x768 and using a 5m VGA cable work? Would it downscale it to 1024x768? *edit edit* oh poop, that would wreck the menus. Never mind. Cheers
