If you're diving on a target you're just asking for someone to shoot you in the face :) Military helo pilots get nosebleeds over 50' AGL. Below powerline height you've got loads of visual references for speed and attitude. There is a fundamental difference in the tactics that fast movers simply need to make an effort to adjust to - you're no longer the majestic eagle soaring in the heavens, you're the dirty mongoose sneaking through the swamp to bite things in the groin before they realise :)

How I Think the Controls Should Work
ruprecht replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I know that one disproof is not conclusive, but I have a "reasonable amount of RL flight experience" including a lot of rotary, and I have no problem with the AP or force trim as modelled. -

I have it on my HOTAS until I build my countermeasures panel, then I'll use that :) -
You guys are too cool

How I Think the Controls Should Work
ruprecht replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I would dispute that. The purpose of the autopilot is to hold an attitude/course/altitude depending on the channels selected. While the real KA-50 pilot may not feel much resistance per se due to the hydraulics, if they make a control input without retrimming, the aircraft would return to the set attitude/course/altitude when that input is released. That is, as far as I can tell, the way the sim works. I believe it is currently as authentic as it can be given the limitations of the hardware. -

Hey Flex old buddy :) Thanks for the input, I feel better about dropping a grand on a mobo and TH2G now! All we need now is that apache so we can recapture the old glory days eh? -

Update - waiting on my new mobo http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=640&l4=0&model=2070&modelmenu=2 and a TH2G Digital both on order, then will rebuild with Win7_64 and see how I go for FPS. Should know by the weekend. -
I suspect if your helo is tipping over on the ground, you don't have your trim centralised. And it's brakes, (sorry).

I have never ever died because I ran out of flares. Until I have, I will fire them from both sides.

The deja vu there freaked me out. I knew I had responded to this! See response here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=634694&postcount=67

Discrete keypresses are absolutely necessary for pitbuilders, unfortunately ED have not chosen to implement them extensively. I hope this will be patched in future versions.

Future DCS Modules to use multi-cores?
ruprecht replied to mR.Waffles's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
You didn't mention your resolution or detail settings. With that rig you should be able to run at 30+FPS with most settings up full at 1680x1050. But yes: faster CPU = better FPS. Almost a 1:1 correlation. -
thank you, I see my error.

No workaround that I'm aware of. set all your displays to the same vertical resolution and deal with the fact that you can't see the server names in multiplayer :( cmon ED, can we at least have an acknowledgement that this is a recognised issue?

Anyone using "3camera" setup?
ruprecht replied to luke88's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
4 outputs on 2 separate cards - see this thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=37491 I have a TH2G and an x48 mobo on order, and am about to go to Win7_64, hope that will improve the FPS. -
Help with monitor settings.
ruprecht replied to S7_Viper's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Start off with both screens at the same res for simplicity. Use say 1024x768 for both. Once that's working, you can start getting fancy. Note however that using different vertical res will give you problems with multiplayer menus. Between that pic and this url http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Black_Shark_MultiMonitors that is everything you need to get it working. If it's not working, it is almost certain that you've done something wrong so go back, start again and re-read and understand. As I say to everyone, you can't simply paste someone else's config in, you need to understand what the numbers mean. Take the time to understand, it's not hard. -
For ED: If the manual has been changed since the english release and a new PDF is expected out with the patch, could you please include a list of which pages have changed? I would really not like to have to print the whole thing again. All maintained aviation publications are issued with changelogs in my experience - updating one's pubs is not the most pleasant of tasks, but much more pleasant then manually feeding 383 A5 pages into a non-double-sided home printer :o I'm sure I could do it myself with something like this: http://www.softinterface.com/MD%5CCompare-PDF-File.htm but as a service to the whole community it would be much appreciated.

Certain missions block outside views as part of the mission options.

Again, to re-emphasise - if you are setting up multimonitor and have edited the config files directly, do not change the monitor, resolution or aspect values in the ingame options screen. -
Help with monitor settings.
ruprecht replied to S7_Viper's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you set the resolution and aspect directly in the config files, don't change anything ingame as this will undo whatever you did in the config files. It looks to me like you've previously changed the "avi" block erroneously and pasting reaper's config has somewhat fixed that. If I were you I'd revert to the original files (you did back them up right?) and start fresh with what you know. You're almost there. I know for a fact that it is possible to run a main screen 1680x1050 and an ABRIS/Shkval 1024x768 - because I've done it myself. You just need to get the settings right. Just to re-remphasise: do not change anything between ["avi"] = and "}, -- end of ["avi"] - leave that completely alone. -
Datalink points/targets disappear
ruprecht replied to Svend_Dellepude's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Miguez, not to doubt your explanation, but I would expect that the electrical systems would be driven off the batteries, with those being charged by the generators, rather than being driven directly off the generators. This would smooth out the differences in current caused by varying Nr. Of course I have no alternate explanation, nor information specifically about the Ka-50 so I might be completely wrong, but it's my natural skepticism kicking in. It seems like a funny way to design an electrical system. -

I'd hazard a guess that many of them had no skills before they started building. I certainly learned on the job, my cockpit has taught me everything from woodwork to electronics to programming in different languages.
