Capt_Zeen_KA50 HELIOS PROFILE V1.01 NIGHT OPERATIONS
Havner replied to Capt Zeen's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi, I've never got deep into the helios software before. And after a quick glance look at their site I'd like to ask a very basic question. For this to work (your profile specifically) the bare minimum would be to have a second (touch capable) monitor? Or is there some additional specific hardware required? -
KA50 Target Designator "a bad JOKE" The exact scripts I posted above should do the trick. You don't have to recenter the stick after you trim with them.

KA50 Target Designator "a bad JOKE" Not saying this is the same issue but it can happen when the laser is not designating the target for the whole vikhr flight. It should light for the estimated fly time of the missile + 6 seconds. Sometimes it's lit for 2 seconds in total and the missile flies to the ground (you can see the laser timer on the hud). Not sure though what is the reason for that. It didn't cool down enough? I know I triggered it once by turning off AT and designating the laser by hand for 60 seconds (max allowed time). The laser didn't go back to normal operation afterwards and was able to light for max 2 seconds with vikhr.

Hardware limitations, nothing you can do about that. I'd also wouldn't say that trimmer spamming is a proper way. It's a lazy way. And still the AP is fighting you, less then with frequent spamming, but it is. This would be even more confusing for some, but I'll indulge you. No idea whether you have a TM Warthog, but here you have. I've implemented the method you described. The only difference is that I use a separate button to let go of the stick (this way you can hold the trimmer if you prefer). Additionally it includes releasing the rudder from the trimmer using the way PeterP found. You need to turn Central Position Trimmer Mode, otherwise you'd have to wait 0.5s between spamming. I gave it a shot (for the first time in my life I was able to spam click trimmer) and while it is possible to fly this way, I don't like it. Having the trimmer held is much more precise and intuitive as you don't fight the AP. If you have a TM let me know what you think, how comfortable is to fly this way for you. MapKey( &Joystick, S3, EXEC( "trimmer_hold();" ) ); MapKeyR( &Joystick, S3, EXEC( "trimmer_release();" ) ); MapKey( &Joystick, S4, EXEC( "trimmer_recenter();" ) );EDIT: It's not ideal cause the more often you spam the trimmer the more the virtual center gets away from the physical center forcing you to use the recenter() at some point (the sim seems to handle the trimmer shift in non-linear way), but still it works very well (assuming you want to spam click trimmer on non-FFB joy). EDIT2: Track included as a proof that this works. This was made on non-FFB stick, TM Warthog and I was able to spam click trimmer. Bad idea IMO. Yes, there is one more, the one I use. I made the trimmer a toggle button. You press (and release it) once, and the trimmer is locked in the pressed position. I maneuver, and when I'm in comfortable position I click the button (and release it) once more and the trimmer gets released and I recenter the stick. It's basically not different from holding it (in terms of simulator behaviour) but allows you to maneuver comfortably without the need to keep the button down. It also contains some additional stuff (like the unchain of the rudder). MapKey( &Joystick, S3, EXEC( "trimmer_toggle();" ) ); spam-trimmer-non-ffb.trk

That's what I'd assume. Thanks. Still would be nice to see that on a track as a proof. Cause different people claim differently. True as well. EDIT: To sum up, if what marrow wrote is correct (and I assumed it is since the very beginning): If you'd take a FFB joystick and remove it's servomotors (make it completely loose) and take non-FFB joystick and remove its spring (make it completely loose as well) there is only one difference in how the game handles those 2 joysticks. After you release the trimmer you have to recenter the non-FFB stick and the virtual center is shifted by the negative joy deflection at the moment of trimmer release. With FFB joystick you don't have to recenter. That is (and should be) the only difference. About the AP, it's logically applied "after" the stick (without getting into hydraulics and technical details). It can move the swashplate within 20% of its authority without moving the cyclic (either 3D in-cockpit one or physical FFB one). It tries to "go back" to the remembered state if you move the cyclic without the trimmer hence the bump. The bump is not a bug. The reason for it is as I initially explained, suddenly releasing the current AP authority: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2071011&postcount=52 With FFB stick you can spam click because if you do it often (as marrow very well pointed out) you simply reset the AP very often and you don't have to fight with it. This is not possible with non-FFB stick not because there is a bug in DCS Ka-50, but because you'd have to recenter the stick after every click which is simply not practical (it wouldn't be spamming anymore cause you'd be limited by your re-centering abilities).

No, this is a full standalone campaign. You don't need any extra files for it to work. EDIT: working workaround if anybody's interested. Vergeevs_group_003_eng.miz Vergeevs_group_004_eng.miz Vergeevs_group_005_eng.miz

Thanks

I'm thinking about modifying the group route to ride off-road around the train-bridge. Seems like a bug in dcs world.
-
Going back to the subject we still don't know whether there is a dive with FFB joystick or not. Or whether there should be. If the stick doesn't move with the AP there should be.
-
Asking again. Does the in cockpit stick (as well as joystick) move in the sim with FFB joystick (e.g. In the Route mode). Cause your explanation makes sense only if it does and I think it has been established that it doesn't.
-
I have a problem with mission #3. The convoy never made it to the border because... I don't even know how to call it, they started to fly? See the picture. It's on the WPT 5. I even found the crashed Havoc afterwards but the triggers didn't update so it was fruitless. I fly on the latest 1.2.8 open beta (tried latest 1.2.8 stable - same) EDIT: tried it for the second time, same thing happened. This time though I caught it in the act.
-
I just tested it. EDIT: scrap what I wrote previously. Enabling FFB in options with non-FFB stick changes nothing.
-
Does anyone know a way to make the game think you have a FFB stick even if you don't have one? To "switch" the sim into FFB mode. Not to require to recenter after trim, etc. I know I'd have to keep the stick in the proper center position by myself (no servomotors) but at least I'd be able to compare the behaviour, cause it seems we won't get any meaningful track from a FFB owner anytime soon. EDIT: E.g. creating some virtual USB device connected to a physical one (like ppjoy used to do) and make it introduce itself as MSFFB2.
-
So if you have a FFB joystick does the stick inside the cockpit (and your FFB one) move when the autopilot is maneuvering (e.g. ROUTE mode)?
-
Yes, A-10C, I'm well aware. And i don't see it making its way to a Chinese plane. Besides like I said the A-10C stick doesn't have the pinky switch that TM does. And it's clearly visible here.

http://info-aviation.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/ELEC_F-CK-1C-D_Cockpit_Chang-Song_Wang_GFD1-2_lg.jpg Did the Chinese put a TM warthog in a real plane? It looks like to me. Not even the real warthog stick has the pinky switch visible here.

Seems we won't get this track. Clicking "save replay" is too much to ask :(
-
Check my track posted earlier.
-
Then I don't get it. So why is there a dive without FFB? Could you please post a track of this tests?
-
Precisely, thank you. Of course it does. The more the difference, the more authority AP uses, the bigger the dive. I know, that what I did on the track is incorrect in terms of proper trimming, but as Flagrum well said, I'm trying to understand this way how does it work inside. And this gives definite results. The flight is stabilized, the dive is deep, no place for (mis)interpretation, just facts. It has been accused in this thread that the trimmer doesn't work properly. I don't agree (or at least I think I don't cause this FFB situation has given me doubts). But I'd say this is on topic.
-
Thank you. If you click trimm very often you won't see much jerky movement because the AP didn't fight your authority much for it to be noticable. So the easiest way to test how this behaves was to do it similarly to my track. I was just trying to figure out whether the sim interprets the "virtual joystick in the lower left corner" differently depending on what joy you use. Because that would've been strange and I've been led to believe that this is the case here and that's what people call a bug (e.g. there is a nose dive without FFB but there is none with FFB). With your confirmation I don't see any bug in AP behaviour in BS.
-
Could you post a track similar to mine from post #97?
-
Not true. See the attached track. This is made WITH Central Position Trimmer Mode. TM Warthog (non-FFB obviously). 1. I press and hold the trimmer before take off 2. With the trimmer pressed I stabilize the heli at 75-80 and release the trimmer 3. I let it stabilize (HUD zoom, 80 is visible). 4. Then without touching the trimmer I push the stick forward (it's clearly seen that I fight the AP) 5. I accelerate to around 230 and let is stabilize. 6. Then I hit the trimmer (press and release) Nose dive clearly visible. The virtual stick in the bottom left corner didn't move at all. If you move the camera down a little you'll see that the stick inside the cockpit didn't move as well. And I have no problem with this dive (it's not a bug to me) as I explain it (the best I can) with AP immediately releasing its 20% authority when you "click" the trimmer. I've described this in the following post (with image): http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2071011&postcount=52 Now, what I find strange is that people claim that this particular thing (like on the track) won't happen with FFB stick: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2071467&postcount=65 I find it hard to believe. But if that is really the case then my explanation must be wrong and there is some bug somewhere. That's why I'd like to ask once again for someone with FFB stick to make exactly the same track I did and post it here please. trimmer-nose-dive.trk

The nose dive is when your stick is deflected significantly without the trimmer and then you press trimm.
