Ok guys, I need professional help here. I sure hope this isn't a bug everyone knows about and that I've missed something. Oh, and for the guys that say, 'hey, it's alpha'... ya, I know. I've never quite been happy with the experience I get in 2.X but recently re-doubled my efforts to try and figure out if it was my problem. And yes, I'm happy to have someone tell me it is my problem... cause I could fix it! Here is the issue: 1. Launch DCS (2.2.0.12448) in VR (Oculus) and do instant action, A-10 Cold Start. 2. Without doing anything else, exit the mission. DCS Crashes. 3. If I load the map and go back to my cockpit, it seems like a shade is set.. it gets real dark. Watch the video below to see this happen, and why it goes away. 4. Again, exit mission and DCS crashes. However, without running in VR, I have no problems at all. So, I've captured my logs here from a clean run without VR and two runs where I launch in VR, do almost nothing, and the system crashes. Of course, if I view the map and go back to the cockpit, the lighting is all messed up until it recalculates. When I run beyond compare against the logs, I see differences pretty clearly, like this screenshot: Last weekend, I did a complete uninstall, removed the saved games folder and tried to remove the registry stuff; although after the uninstall I didn't find much. I only installed the A-10C mod, NTTR and Normandy. The issue pops up on Normandy too, and regardless of which model I load. Also, I tried to update every driver that I could, from BIOS to NVidia and Oculus. I know that updating NVidia isn't always the best idea, but I had this issue before updating it too. Here is a video showing this strange behavior (specs are in the video, and game settings are in the video at ~7:35): Had an issue embedding the video, there is the link: Here are my specs: Windows 10 64bit i7-6700 3.40Ghz 16mb ram NVidia GTX 1070FE Oculus CV1 NVMe Samsung SSD 960 Also, I've attached a collection of dumps from the crashes along with a clean log file too. Is there anyone much smarter than me who might be able to figure out the issue? I'd love to fly more in 2.0, but something seems seriously wrong. Thanks for any help you can provide. -Cru CrashFiles.zip

Ahh, found a video tutorial talking about this topic: With that said, I think I'd like to use a polygon region for the trigger, but at least now I've got the clue I was looking for... this, plus I think I see how to generate an explosion in space... which possibly I could script to go off on some random value relative to the plane's location. With that said, I think most of that work has been done in the above video. Cheers, -Cru

Hello All, I've really tried to search and find a way to do this, but I haven't had any luck. I'm creating a CAS mission that is being played very close to the border. When you approach the border you'll get a warning from ATC or AWACS that you are dangerously close... if you cross the border, I'd like to begin AAA or flak around the aircraft which may or may not damage you. In this mission, being aware of the border is a big deal. The Open Conflict server used to do just this... Mirknir created a script if you flew too close to the enemy spawn, suddenly you'd have flak all around you that you might be able to avoid. Here is the post where he discusses that: Protected Zones: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2492777&highlight=flak#post2492777 I tried doing something like this on my own, but my solution didn't work when flying too high etc... Does anyone have an idea how I might be able to do this? I would really love to pull this off, but in lieu of this approach, at least I can spawn a flight of Migs to do an intercept. Also, I'll ask Mirknir later too after he's had more time off. I'm not exactly sure what the culture is of sharing such scripting gold ;) Cheers, -Cru

I'll have to add to the chorus of thanks here Mirknir. OC was my goto server for obvious reasons. You (and the friends that helped you) did a fantastic job while it lasted, and to me, your server made DCS so much better for me. See you in the skies!! Cruachan (a.k.a. 'Piper' in multiplayer)

I double-click my mouse wheel button, then holding down the mouse wheel button while rolling it,I move forward and backward as I scroll the wheel. Double click the mouse wheel to get the default pointer back. This approach is easier for me because I don't need to use the keyboard. The F-15 and A-10 always require this adjustment.

Would love to vote, but I don't have the Mig. The Mirage is joy to learn and fly. Baltic Dragon's campaign that comes with it is amazing. In VR, the cockpit is a bit hard to see, but once you learn it that isn't an issue. I can't imagine being disappointed with the Mirage

Start the sim without your touch controllers activated and you won't see them. Confused the heck out of me the first time.

People used to say this would happen if the fly by wire system was disengaged. Did you perhaps hit the fbw switch? In any event, it hasn't happened to me.

Could this be related to a launch/working directory issue? What if you try it with a shortcut to DCS rather than directly to the DCS exe? Of course, double check the the shortcut has correct working directory set in it. I have no idea if this fixes it though, I don't have access at the moment.

Sadly, it was only that one year and I transferred to a different college.... As an Air Force brat myself, I was never really the type to stay in touch. Honestly, I can't even remember her name. Jennifer maybe? Oh well, one day she'll read this post and remind me, eh? :)

LOL... ya... certainly in hindsight, I should have taken the opportunity... Oh well.

Reading through the messages in this forum, I started thinking you guys might get a kick out of this story. So, here it goes! When I was in college, I lived in a dormitory for a while that was co-ed. Down the hall from me was a young, stunning brunette girl who I got to know. One day she mentions to me that her last name is Yeager... I was like... "Wow, just like Chuck Yeager, eh?" Then she says, "Ya... he's my Granddad." "Wait, are you kidding? Really? Holy cow that's amazing!!" I proceeded to fawn over her even more knowing that she was from flight royalty. I mean really, I was one step removed from General Yeager himself! Well, we kept talking for a while and I suddenly remembered something that I thought she'd get a kick out of. "You know, I just remembered, my dad used to fly in a squadron that your grandfather was the commander of. In fact, I even have a picture of your grandfather pinning a medal on my father's uniform." So she says, "Wow, no kidding... why don't you get the picture to me and I'll have my grandfather sign it for you!" Ok guys, this is where I crash and burn... We were pretty good friends and I kind of felt like teasing her a bit, so I say, "How about I get my dad to sign a copy of it, and we can send it to your grandfather? Ha Ha..." In any event, she took it like I meant it, just a funny joke and we carried on the conversation. Honestly, she was one of prettiest girls I'd ever met... not that that matters much... but geez... Ok, so here is the part where I realize the crash and burn. Later that year, I'm back at home visiting with my parents and I suddenly recall the fact that I'm living in the same dorm as Yeager's granddaughter. I remember the funny way I ended the conversation and I'm eager to tell my father the story... I'm sure he's going to think it was totally awesome of his son to be so 'proud' of his father. So, I relate the story... yep, being proud of what I said to her. "What!?! I could have had it signed!?!? You DUMMY!!"... ya, he was not happy... We did have a bit of a laugh though, but honestly, I had no idea that he would have wanted it so much... so ya, I did feel like a horse's ass. I don't know... I think its a funny story. I've attached a copy of the picture below. I'm still totally proud that my dad flew in Yeager's squadron... this was in Vietnam. Cheers everyone, Cru

My father and I both fly online! He's a retired Colonel from the USAF that flew fighters in Vietnam. He's 78, I'm 46 :) Oh, and I just remembered, my forum avatar is from one of his squadrons too.

Thanks SkateZilla, I'm following the tutorials for building mods and this issue was just confusing to me. I get your comment about polys though. I'll tell you one thing though, I'm starting to learn why these things take so long to build. Cheers, Cru

Hello all, I was wondering if someone could explain to me why some of the models from CGTrader have a licensing restriction that states the model can't be used in flight simulations. It looks like the model could be used as a prop in a video, but that you could not use it as a base to build a mod. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just trying to learn some of the basics. Here is an example (yes, of a plane many would not likely care to see built): https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/aircraft/military/f-102 The site says, "This model is developed with high accuracy level. It is not game ready and are NOT to be used for Flight Simulations. Usage in other game applications is permitted." I suppose what I'm asking is, wouldn't this be a great place to start a mod, or do people always start from scratch. Thanks Cru

Is there a wiki that people can contribute to and keep up to date? The Mirage is my favorite and I've almost mastered it, honestly I have not even looked up to see if there is a wiki. If there isn't one, that would be a good community project. Cru

It's in 1.5, I might try to clean the install but it's rare enough to not be the biggest issue. I actually would like to see if I could reproduce it on demand, that might be helpful too. As for 2.1, I don't remember it ever happening there.
-
It's super rare when it happens, normally I can't get it to unzoom... But I have been able to once or twice. I think the install is fine but that I'm hitting a glitch of some sort. Mapping to one button might be something to try though. More than anything, I'm just wondering if it's happened to someone else. Seems like if you are holding the key for zoom and something goes 'boing' (that is the technical term for it) that its like DCS gets stuck that way.... Like, when you are making a funny face and someone slaps you on the back... You get stuck that way. -Cru
-
Man... this is so frustrating. I have VR zoom mapped to a combination of buttons on my hotas. Every now and then, when I'm in VR zoom, it gets stuck! It just happened a second ago and right when it got stuck, I had an hourglass pop into my rift while programming the INS in a Mirage. Next thing I know, I release the buttons and ... whammo... I've got permanent super vision. Has this happened to anyone else? I seriously cannot find a way to un-zoom when this happens. -Cru

For what its worth, could this also be an issue with the field altitude being programmed into the nav system incorrectly? Cru

Perhaps try the GUI utility? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053 -Cru

How is your performance with the latest Nevada
Cruachan replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Wolf, my suggestion would be to try it, and then if you find it is worse than before, then use the DCS_Updater.exe utility to roll back to an earlier version that worked better for you. For me, I've always struggled to get better FPS in 2.* and typically fly in 1.*. Good luck! -Cru -
IIRC, what I do is enable guns (weapons on and gun safety off). If you hit the K1/K2 button you will only get to A/G, or K2. Try selecting a missile, like MAG, then select MAG again to deselect it. You should now be in A/A mode or K1 with your guns. Cru

Seems to work for me Yo Kobeshow, For what its worth, I tried this tonight as I've been studying countermeasures in the Mirage and how I can customize the SPIRALE.lua file to my liking. Anywho, I tried exactly what you had said above, then tried a number of other scenarios. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to reproduce what you said. So, either it was a bug that has been fixed, or your plane has a gremlin :D For others not quite familiar with the Mirage countermeasure programming, be sure to check out the SPIRALE.lua file you can find in the cockpit/scripts folder of your Mirage install. I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but you can tweak the settings there and get the programs to do exactly what you like. Write or print the settings, get in your jet and try each of the settings of the countermeasures program, you'll see what the various values do. Now create your backup and begin tweaking. -Cru

Is there any way to know that ASW is engaged or enabled? I'm aware of the ctrl-numpad combinations, buy I'm just not sure it's working correctly aside from a smoothness I may not realize. If it is enabled, I should see my fps lock to 45 where it would otherwise be ~90? Thanks, -Cru
