  1. If it isn't going to happen it's fine DCS didn't get worse its still great, i'll find other ways to reduce load, maybe upgrade my system & hopefully performance may improve via vulkan if/when it comes. But i would rather know a bit more whether they have been unsuccessful or its still a possibility.
  2. They where not sure if it was in or not themselves. We were told for ages that it was not ready, then it would be out soon & in the next update, then that update gets released but they say it is not in that update. Many saw an improvement even non vr and we are told this was because of the new trees. Then we are told it was actually released in the one before that one. So they either blatantly lied to us or just screwed up. I'm hoping its the later but without an explanation i don't know.
  3. After having the index for some weeks now & comparing it to my CV1 i think the main issues regarding performance are really down to how poor motion smoothing is. I also found that running the Index at 0.9 pd is closer to cv1 @ 1.5PD & a fairer comparison. I'm running dcs at 120hz & its at least smoother than 90hz running at 45fps, i can still see the ghosting slower frame rate of 60fps but it's not too bad & maybe valve will improve it motion smoothing.
  4. The titan xp is a touch slower than a 1080ti it recoments 140% but in DCS & most other sims it really struggles at 140% with lots of ugly reprojection & i can only really run it at that in simple games. I do want to upgrade but want to skip the current 2080ti. By the time that gfx card is out maybe there will be a new headset to get hyped for.
  5. I'm running steam at 100%SS within the steam vr app with motion smoothing off. 1.0 in game. When you say performing well what frame rates are you getting flying the TF-51D free flight? I'm struggling to get 45 fps with the index. My Rift gets 70+ @ 1.5 in oculus debug. TBH the oculus looks sharper from what i remember. I'm going to A/B them tomorrow but it looks likely i will return it before 2 weeks.
  6. I'm still having some issue with performance and the Index, anyone know what the equivalent of running the rift at 1.5 ppd would be in the index in regards to amount of pixels being pushed?
  7. interestingly i got a boost using my cv1 but then lost it after getting the index.
  8. ok well i just don't know why i'm getting such poor frame rates only that it may related to the updated vr performance uncertainty.
  9. do you plan to use it with your 1070?
  10. is it possible to turn reprojection off, i would like to benchmark dcs & get to the bottom of the performance issues. motion smoothing is off.
  11. are you using steam or non steam version of dcs?
  12. It depends on how much pixel density you add & also which cockpit some are much easier than others.
  13. VR enthusiasts are not going to stop be enthusiastic about VR any less than we are going to be enthusiastic about DCS or anything else we enjoy. But let's not pretend that we are not critical of it. Where were you when they announced the index & everybody was moaning because it was lower resolution than everybody expected? where were you when people moan about non of this next gen having foveated rendering. There is endless begging for higher specs in vr forums. There are countless posts showing that the current gen PPD is along way from even a 1080 PPD on a monitor. If you don't get vr & why people put up with less sharpness you are just not going to get it simple as that. Most people do though.
  14. doing the test i was getting 70-90 fps with my rift cv1 at 1.5 pd, my index is getting me 45fps at 1.0 pd. I wonder if there is an issue with this game in steam vr.
  15. This looks incorrect to me, you don't lose any ppd with the increased fov in the Index.
  16. I would find it hard to believe that anyone that uses vr would of told you the resolution would be like a 4K monitor or even a 1080 for that matter. Its your own fault if you didn't research it properly, pointing the finger & accusing everybody else of being biased too absorbed in a gimmick of immersion just makes you sound like a schmuck tbh. Just return it & enjoy your 4k.
  17. lol how many of us play vr for a living?
  18. I don't how you are getting satisfactory black levels, i wonder if its a calibration issue with some headsets as there are mixed reports. Even my lcd monitor is a magnitude of difference in black levels in comparison to the index. I'm also seeing clear black crush i can see it in the black panels & instruments of the f18.
  19. well i don't own a vive pro but i would say its oled display makes it competitive with the index if you use the lense mod you could also say it has better god rays/glare also. Maybe somebody who owns both may have a differing view but i would never go for a LCD HMD in future.
  20. I managed to get the sound working, sort of although i still frustratingly have to select it in settings when i start a game. I still haven't figured out how turn off the chaperone & get the feeling you can't so i can see a big red ring all the time. Tried some driving sims with mixed results, assetto corsa did not perform well even with all the pixel density settings at 1.0 I run it at 1.5 in my rift also using content manager is not really viable using the desktop in steam vr. Biggest concern was driving at night time the glare is so bad i could hardly see where i was going, this glare mixed with the unconvincing grey night makes it almost undrivable. Race room was really good though look really sharp & was very smooth to play, its normally hard to get good frame rates in my rift. Same as Rf2 really surprised how good it looks & at how well it performed. Project cars 2 similar to ac seemed to struggle & looked quite rough. couldn't get dirt rally working. Sometimes my wheel pedal etc are making navigation in steam VR impossible because its getting continual inputs from these devices. Still on the fence to return it or not
  21. I haven't spent enough time in it to say it's a show stopper. I put up with it in the cv1. In dcs i don't notice in day flying but at night there is glare.
  22. so after doing this dcs will not load beyond the menu, when i try to start a mission it crashes back to steamvr. Also how do you switch off the chaperone? why does oculus home boot up when i start DCS?
  23. Its at 150% I'm trying to move it & it keeps moving back to 150. I have enable custom res on. edit: ok eventually got 100 but it was very glitchy to move. rendering at 2016x2240 isn't that still high?
  24. no contest at all the sde is very good. You can still see it, but it's like a fine grain.
  25. I had mine since midday yesterday but unfortunately i've had many technical issues. Sometimes headset will not connect & no audio at all. I did get to try dcs for a bit although in complete silence. ok so fov imo is much better than cv1 made a huge difference dogfighting, clarity is also much improved everything is much sharper & clearer again much easy to spot & identify planes. felt like a different game in that respect with fov & clarity. That's the good. The bad. Black levels, i flew at night & its just grey, very flat grey. Of course cv1 was not good at night time either but that was for other reasons, there is certainly less noise & black smear. It is of course still much sharper & much easier to read your dials & hud. But i'm not sure if i could ever put up with the grey blacks. What else? colours. I only tested dcs & steamvr home but they seem a bit washed out & there is definitely an issue with black crush. You lose some of the finer texture detail of the cockpits surfaces & can make things look darker than they should be(do not confuse this with black levels) I need to try this out more though on other games. Glare. glare is really bad in the headset. road to vr got it spot on. I can see it often around the edges, sometimes it moves more to the centre. God rays are also there. A good example of the the godrays & glare is to go to the millennium falcon home in steam vr & the lights zip around the lenses its quite distracting. Performance so far in dcs was significantly worse than it was running in my cv1 @ 1.5, & in the f14 it was doing this horrible fade in of steamvr loading screen all the time. It could very well be my settings in steamvr they are not as simple to understand as oculus pixel density.
