I'm surprised there is not more discussion around the lack of a nose gap in the new Rift. This is pretty much a disaster for using simulators IMO. Does anyone know if it can be removed?
-
I managed to fix it for now, i unscrewed the back of the switch this removed the IN switch wires as the switch is in 2 halves & it started working again. So i found if i screw it in but not all the way just leave a small gap it is working. Probably is the solder so i might just get myself a soldering iron for when it goes again.

The black 5 directional hat switch has failed, 2 switches are no longer working properly. I haven't used the thing that much but it's over the warranty period by 6 months. Thrustmaster want to send a replacement but they will only send the complete panel that includes the 3 other switches & charge me 66 euro. So i'm pretty pi**ed about this as they could easily send the switch & are clearly making a profit at 66 euro. Anyone had a similar issue? Also i'm done with TM are there any good alternatives for a throttle?

Kinda teasing that they would announce vr updates in news then not actually do it for ??? who knows how long. Is that something ED do often?

What is the cockpit texture workflow? Just looking for a very basic guide of how to set up my files & how one would basically get the best work flow. My current thinking is you just load up the texture files in photoshop & paint away saving often & then loading those updated textures into the model viewer. But painting onto a texture map with limited feedback isn't ideal.

Yes please make these available>

Is it possible to set up an external folder for cockpit textures rather than having to backup & copy files over? If created a folder C:\Users\nrosk\DCS.liveries\ & add cockpit textures in here would it override the cockpit textures in the main folder?

I'm trying to figure this out so i can view cockpit skins, is there a readme file that explains how to setup the files? Considering some of us are beginners.

a.Both of those aircraft are due for an overhaul for the cockpit & they are substantially older as far as i'm aware. Many itt stated the c-101 was one of the better cockpits so i chose what i thought was one of the better ones for comparison, tbh i could choose any of them apart from the A-10 or BS. You can also do a quick google search for real pictures of the cockpit to see how poor it looks in the game. b.This module was promoted as having an overhaul with the addition of a new aircraft. c.The last point is a bit of a straw man as i never said it was the most important thing, it's about paying for something & expecting everything to be of similar professional standards to the other modules. I know it's not a very nice thing to say about some bodies work & i will say no more abou it, but i'll now have to spend my time in Photoshop (trying to)make it look pretty.

Well interesting that opinions are polarized. I actually thought that maybe i had it wrong & it wasn't an updated cockpit but it seems it is. I have cockpit & texture details on max & playing in vr. For reference low resolution textures, not very convincing weathering Alien hand. low res textures Again i think the weathering & materials don't look realistic to my eyes.

Just purchased this module. I was under the impression that this was a newer module but the internal textures in this plane are really quite poor & not to the usual DCS standard. Also the pilot model is laughably bad. I know its not as expensive but there should be some uniformity in the quality of textures in these planes IMO.

Any chance this will be fixed? I try to fix myself & i don't know how.
-
Yes it just needs dithering & this would help vr as well as it is even worse making dusk/dawn unplayable.
-
I have also noticed that you can't use mouse & touch & didn't recall it previously being like this.
-
where is the options.lua to be found? Edit: found it in Users\username\Saved Games\ for future reference.
-
Is there any chance ED can add this option properly in game?
-
I'm not sure its a hw/driver issue? I mean i think it's only this game i ever noticed it & only during sunset/rise. Maybe i could run some tests. Edit: So after further reading into this thanks to Mustangs link it's probably a simple matter of software dithering? We shouldn't see it in 8 or 10bit.

Thing is, why is the sky banding in this game so bad?
-
I can't even imagine the complexity of such a thing, will be cool as when it eventually gets here though.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
nrosko replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I try the mod but for me there is quite a significant drop in visual quality. Some lighting & textures look very odd. -
I guess not many here are sharing my desire to make flight sims more popular. I'm not talking about fundamentally changing the game or dumbing it down those are your words not mine. I'm talking about making it more accessible because i think if people experience flying a war plane in VR they would want to invest more into it. I mean why have a game mode in DCS at all? Personally I've never used it & i would bet that it is rarely used by many at all. The tutorial missions for example are tucked away in the mission editor. Anyway the proposal was to have a version of DCS in the Oculus store, a military flight sim no arcade, that's much easier to get into, simplified menus etc & more direct missions. Just an idea NO NEED TO USE CAPs or anything.
-
I still think many would find it complicated though. If it was a standalone product in the Oculus store, that was specifically setup for very casual users. I doubt the average jo gamer even knows about a game mode in DCS. That's really more my point. Like i said it's all already there, just repackaged & simplified.

VR isn't going anywhere. Statistics can be as distorting a they can be clarifying. For example how many STEAM users could actually run VR??? Arguably anyone with a 1060+ but i think in reality we could say a 1080 & 1080+ users are a small chunk of the cake. We could could say maybe 5% potential. PCVR having a 0.8% share isn't so terrible. There is potential huge market for VR, its a problem that VR is only available to a small % of gamers due to HW limitations but hopefully anything that helps with GPU load will increase availability.

There are a few things coming the way of VR that is not hype but significantly important. For the sake of running DCS. 1 is ASW without artifacts (everyone will benefit from running a game at 45FPS without any obvious distortion). 2 foveated rendering. (imagine being able to gaze at your cockpit without zoom & read everything) So we can have 30+PPD.

SDE is SDE its SUBPIXELS. This is the black lines between the pixel & that can be affected by other things like panel type. If you want to see an easy demonstration of this (not hype) look at a psvr vr orvr (PS has a different subpixel arrangement). Significantly less pixels on the psvr but les SDE. Resolution will always help with SDE because it it's shrinking everything but all sorts of things can effect SDE. IT'S NOT A SIMPLE AS + RESOLUTION. FR is good for VR i'm struggling with the logic of being negative about it.
