What did I think of Kiowa? It needs to improve in some areas!
Digitalvole replied to ThorBrasil's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
It was all I needed, so thanks for giving it. I’ve found myself drawn to the choppers of late but I usually end my sessions with me in my Mk IX vs 2 K4s over my home town of Brighton. Then landing at Friston, just to keep my eye in. Can’t be beat. I couldn’t wait, and you’re absolutely right, it is a lot of fun!- 598 replies

What did I think of Kiowa? It needs to improve in some areas!
Digitalvole replied to ThorBrasil's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
Mate, I owe you a beer. I did as you suggested (I’m not easily led, honest) and I’m very glad I did! Thanks mate I’ve only tooled around for an hour or so with out any bindings, but can already tell this is gonna be a lot of fun. If the Apache makes you feel like you’re (trying to) fly a tank, this is like being a cheeky little chappy out to cause some mischief. Cracking stuff. The performance in VR isn’t as great as I was hoping but better than the AH64 at least and who knows, may get better in time. Does anyone have any good book recommendations? I’m on my 6th re-read of chicken hawk and could do with some good helicopter book suggestions.- 598 replies

Just wondering, for those that are seeing a bit of a performance hit with the Kiowa, did you delete the fxo and metashader folders after the update? I’m clutching at straws perhaps, but damn I really want this thing now. Haha, so true!- 598 replies

Thanks guys, very helpful. With a heavy heart I will not purchase the Kiowa yet. Drat and blast, I really was looking forward to it. Hopefully it’ll improve over time because it looks like a hell of a lot of fun. thanks again- 598 replies

I was all set to buy the Kiowa this weekend, but having read this thread I hesitated. What is the general consensus on performance (particularly in VR)? I assumed it would be much less demanding than the Apache but now I’m not so sure as a few people seem to be saying it’s not good on the fps front.- 598 replies

How will my rig hold up in VR with this beast?
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Excellent news, thank you all. I’d de-hyped myself after the trailer showing how in-depth the systems modelling was. I thought it’d be like the ah64, amazing but a bit too much for VR on my system. -

Good news indeed, thank you. -
Quest pro using quad views at 72hz. 4090, 5900x, 64gb ram, m2ssd. The Heatblur F4 looks like quite the masterpiece (little surprise there) but Im a bit of a stickler for a solid 72fps (don’t like asw. I don’t mind when on the ground, but don’t want it when I’m flying around). How are you guys finding it? I’m seeing some people say it is the same/slightly better than the F14 (that’s good enough for me). But others saying the opposite, and that they are struggling to even get it to be playable. Is it more cpu or gpu intensive? Also are there possibilities that it will improve considerably over time? I don’t mind waiting, but the chances of me getting any new hardware anytime soon are non existent. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the video, very useful. Is it possible to set the other 4 up on TOO2 and drop all 8 in a single pass (pickle TOO1 then switch to TOO2 and pickle). Also, if memory serves (which it rarely does) weren’t we able to do this a long while back, then it changed and we couldn’t anymore? Or am I imagining things again?

Quest pro, solid 72fps but lots of stutters and juddering.
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks for the suggestion, I was wondering about that too, but in my search for a solution I updated Windows and now I can’t use my Quest with DCS until the patch that was supposed to be today. Guess I’ve got another week to wait before I can get back to trouble shooting… -

Thank you Tomcat388th for the suggestions and taking the effort to post your settings. This “phenomenon” has appeared despite consistent good performance up until Friday and no changes to DCS settings. No app for the headphones, and I’ve done a slow repair today, but still getting this weird lag despite low frame times. I can do specs (4090 5900x 64gb nvme) but not sure how to get a screen shot of the overlay, would print screen do it? I’m using quad-views and according to OpenXR toolkit my frametimes are good. I’ve got 7ms for cpu and gpu (just me in a Hornet flying over Georgia) and it’s still juddering and laggy. I think it’s the quest rather than DCS, unless the fps counter is lying to me (turbo mode is off.) Head movement does not feel smooth when I look around the cockpit. I’ve got some time tomorrow hopefully to look at it again. I did change the port recently and your suggestion reminded me, but nah, problem persists no matter the port and I’ve run the test in the oculus app and they all seem to be about 2.3gbps. I do think the issue is with the Quest rather than DCS though. I did set up my new Virpil gear since last I played without this lag issue, could that be a potential cause? Thanks for the suggestions, I’ve got sometime tomorrow to try and work this out. I’ll report back if I have any success or beg for more help if I’m at a total loss. -
I’m using a quest pro over a link cable and it’s been great, but today I’m finding it very juddery despite having a solid 72fps. If I bank the plane the horizon jolts and judders (was smooth before) and if I just look out the side at the ground at low level there’s a definite stutter every few seconds. But all the while the FPS reads 72 (via OpenXR toolkit) I haven’t updated DCS in a while so still on 2.9.2xxxx. Up until today all was well. I did connect a new pair of Bluetooth headphones to my pc today, could that be it? The problem persisted after I disconnected them so it doesn’t seem likely. I also plugged a usb powered strip of led lights into my pc’s usb hub, but it wasn’t plugged in when I was playing DCS, could that cause problems? I’m clutching at straws because it was fine before today and I’m scratching my head. I’m hopping you guys could give me some suggestions as to what could make this happen so I can start trouble shooting, because I don’t have a clue and it’s making flying quite unpleasant. I have tried Googling this but nothing I can find helps.

Alas I have run into the inevitable technical problem. My grip (TM F18) is not detected when using the 200mm extension but is when plugged straight into the base. Before I contact Virpil I just thought I’d check I’m not missing something. Anyone have this happen and found a fix? Sorted! I needed to pull the wire out of the bottom of the extension to ensure a proper connection to the base. All working now. Just the task of rebinding buttons for all my modules, that should only take a week or two.

TM Hornet grip here with a WarBRD, works fine. Thanks, I spent a fortnight uming and ahring about it. Finally pulled the trigger (sorry) today. Unrelated, but I was in CEX earlier today (Xbox broke) and they had a Warthog stick w/ base in brand new condition for £109. Thought that was a pretty good deal. Was tempted just because it looked so new and clean!
-
Went for the TM Hornet grip in the end. The logic being: i can fly a Tomcat with the Hornet one but I can’t fly a Hornet with the Tomcat one. Does it work ok with Virpil stuff? Just wondering if you can mix these things without them getting in a tizz.

As far as I can tell, yes. The oculus app on my pc downloaded an update the other day and it says version 63. My Windows 10 is asking to update, think I’m going to say no just incase. Ofc Sod’s Law dictates next time I go to use my QP it won’t work anymore for some mystical reason hehe. -

I’m on Win 10 with Nvidia 4090 and AMD 5900x for what it’s worth, and not having any problems (QP, v63, DCS v2.9.2somthing) OXR, toolkit and quad views all working nicely. -

Does this only affect people who are using the current version of DCS? I haven’t updated since December I think, and mine is running fine (QP, oculus app say Version 63.numbers. -
That’s a good idea, but it requires a level of patience I simply don’t poses Really I want a new grip, after 8 years of use my WH one is coated in all sorts of grime (mostly dead skin I’m guessing, nice.) I just couldn’t go the WinWing route, I have terrible luck and I couldn’t risk it. Shame though, it looks great and the price is good. Very tempered by the hornet takeoff panel.

Sorry, hectic week. This is good to hear, and I think I’ve found the cause of the problem in another thread (two screws need to be removed) so I’m confident now that TM or Virpil will be fine. Right now I’m torn between the TM Hornet or the Virpil F14 grip. True indeed, right up until you’re sat in the cockpit of an F35 I suppose. Next day they release an F36

Thanks man, I’m gutted. I’ve found out (as is so often the case) that when you think something is top end you soon discover there’s is an even topper end.
-
Haha yes but you can’t unsee things I’ll need to try the wh grip and see I suppose, if it does fit nicely it will do for now. Regarding the WinWing you use now, did you bin off the Virpil base then? As far as I know you can’t fit WinWing grips onto Virpil stuff? If so please don’t tell me it’s better. Yeah an axis for breaking would be great for the spit and mossie. The reason I wonder about the mongoose grip is that you can back order everything else but not that, seems suspicious.
